I love hearing old veterans talk about their war stories the good and the bad, their voices are always soothing. That's why even when my grandpa will tell me the same story over and over again because he forgot that he's told it, I don't care. It's still worth hearing every time.
Good stories never get old, especially when told by good storytellers.
+ethan hall Same here. My grandma will sit and tell me stories for hours and hours about growing up in Philly in the forty's to stories about my grandpa and I love it.
+ethan hall
Every man has his tale. Listening to old people's stories of how they lived their lives is better than any adventure book you can find.
+ethan hall Same here, I know what you’re talking about.
This coming summer, it will be 4 years since my grandpa died; he was 95 (he died of natural death). He volunteered in WW2 and was part of the (USAAC) United Stats Army Air Corps and I only heard a few stories about it. He did talk about growing up during the Great Depression a few times. His dad lost his job (and I think his house too). My grandpa said that was the only time he ever saw his dad cry, he thought he’d failed the family. But of course we know that wasn’t the reason. So many people last their jobs and houses during thattime.
He built a house himself in the 50’s and lived in it til the last few years of his life. My grandpa was just a nice guy; whenever we saw him he would ask what’s new with us. Up until the day he died, he’d remember things that we told him before. Like if we started a new job or college. He’d say something like ”So, you’re going to grad school at..., right?” or “How do you like your new internship?” Outta the almost 20 years I knew him, I only saw him get mad ONCE, he wasn’t that mad and was bout a small thing too. He thoughtwe had to be somewhere early in the morning and got home too late. Once we told him the change of plans later for tomorrow, he was perfectly fine.
I dunno about your grandpa but mine was reluctant to giveup his car. He drove most of his life and I think he didn’t want to give it up cause it was his sense of freedom. If you want, I could give you the name of a non-fiction book about our grandpa’s generation, it was referenced in my grandpa’s funeral. I give it to my dad for father’s day or his birthday (I forget which one)
I’m sorry I wrote so much; once I started I just couldn’t stop. I miss him so much.
+SportsLuvr I know how it is don't worry, I have a tendency to type A LOT too, don't worry. But it's great to see so many people honestly caring so much about their grandparents and their stories. one can only hope that, that kind of tradition will be around forever.
1922 wow, he has been around that's for sure.
+Revo Red that's a bit of stretch. maybe 70
***** ehhh alright
+Demi N he looks like a 55 year old wearing a 70 year old man...it could happened...
+Revo Red 65
+CrumbyVirus34 He does not look 65 lol he looks MAYBE in his 80's
almost 94 years old - that's amazing! that's how i want to be when i get old.
+teed He's the same age as Betty White and Stan Lee. Both cool af i'm seeing a trend here lol
I hope Im as cool as him when Im 93.
i second that
+SpectreX I wish I were that cool in the first place...
i wish i had friends
+348frank348 never gonna happen
+SpectreX Probably not.
Conan is the only one who do the job "interview" others just play stupit games make the fool thanks Conan for be a pro
k
+Appadriana Colbert too...
+Appadriana Seriously, though. Not many other newcomers to the talk show game would know what to do with a person like Carl Reiner. He can't/won't be willing to be as active, spontaneous, or energetic as younger guests. He would rather talk about his experiences, which I think is perfect for such a legend to educate viewers about the past of comedy and performance. Conan's great with the older guests because he is willing to either have a chat with them or let them share.
Conan is snagging no doubt. I also think Seth Meyers is a great interviewer. I believe the "newcomer" you're referring to is Jimmy Fallon and yeah, his show is ridiculous
+DaSpaceMonkey Yeah you've got to let someone who's lived for almost a century talk as much as he wants :)
doesn't look a day over 80
I could listen to WWII servicemen nonstop. Such a fascinating thing to me, to have experienced such a critical moment in history.
I know this is 5 years late but you should listen to British historian James holland interview a 101st airborne veteran on his podcast “we have ways of making you talk” it’s fascinating
this generation was so amazing, they did so many great things and were so honorable and brave. I'm glad some of them are still alive to tell these kinds of stories.
+It is I Aku When you have to make a good thing depressing ☺
+It is I Aku To be fair, most germans fought for their country, not for the nazis. I'm from Argentina and my italian great grand uncle went to Italy in WW2 to fight for his country (led by Mussolini). Call it patriotism or ignorance, but he was not a nazi supporter.
+It is I Aku My grandfather fought for germany, and was a prisoner of war in the soviet union for 8 years, I still think that he was a brave man, even though he fought for the wrong side. It's not like most soldiers really had a say in it, they were brainwashed and forced to go fight.
+BurnTrees That's a chilling story.
+Rex Noct legion
The original "funny or die"...
+nomakym how is this not a top comment??
too soon...

Great stories from the master there, but never has the "subscribe" bumper seemed more inappropriate. Dear Conan CZcams Editor: You can leave it off sometimes, you know.

Respect
No one in THIS nor the FUTURE generation will be as cool and badass as the WW2 generation. EVER !
This is why Conan is the best!!

It's an unearned and strange juxtaposition to have Conan visually above Reiner.

Awesome story, you won't hear this stuff happen anymore.

I wonder what happened to the guy who replaced him and went to Iwo Jima.
What did he said at 0:53 ? "___" 18th ?
Detachment I think
if he was in the Army he wouldn't have been too IWO JIMA he would have to be in the Marines.
Throwing papayas
VJ day? I'll send my trooper in with his helmet on!
Hey
i love you connaannanananananan say my name on your show bro
Hubert J. Farnsworth
I want to see Hamlet in fatigues
Lyman Zerga anyone?
This guy looks like a white bill cosby
Was a bit out of place after the vid as conan goes "HAHAHA wasn't that a great clip!?"
“Call Gen. Richardson and replace you.” Grrrrrrr! At the most important moment in the story, when Reiner is about to explain a major fork in the road in his life, Conan INTERRUPTS and never returns. He doesn’t usually do that but it’s very frustrating to see a headline and a main part of the story is not told.
@team coco I love you.. Feel freee to contact me if you want to talk to an Alaskan.
