Korra is not in top form during the fight, she is suffering in immense pain from poisoning and fighting in fear and desperation. When she reaches for her dad before fainting, I wonder if she thinks she's seeing him in an afterlife, as she thought he was dead. Tenzin also unintentionally adds to Korra's fears at the end by assuring her that the airbenders will help in her place, essentially cementing to her that she isn't needed. It is such a bittersweet moment 😭 she is truly broken. I love her relationship with Tenzin's kids though, even broken, she welcomes them into her arms.

The metal poison they used was probably mercury if it wasn't some fictional poisonous metal. And Korra's symptoms match mercury poisoning. Muscle weakness and inability to remain balanced (ataxia) and even paralysis specifically, it can also cause depression, hallucinations, personality changes, muscle spasms... Mercury is probably the most terrifying metal other than the radioactive ones I guess.

I was waiting for this episode to make the EXACT comment about Mercury 🤣 They never name it as such, but I think it's a pretty good guess based on its appearance and how it lines up so well with her symptoms next season.
People are so hard on Korra in the 4th season thinking she's weak, and I'm like dude Katara straight up says her internal organs are wrecked among everything else physical and mental that's going on😒 I'm sure anyone would struggle with that

jinora's mastery ceremony is the first of it's kind in almost 200 years. when tenzin became a master i'm sure aang made it as special as he could, but he was the only other airbender there. with jinora, she has a whole nation behind her. there are other airbenders to ring the bells and move the incense and bend the air in beautiful motions. she gets the full pomp and circumstance, as she rightly deserves. it makes me cry every time too

This episode always makes me cry so hard. Korra lived a life of comfort before she came to Republic City. There was "peace and harmony" thanks to Aang and so she never really had to worry about going through what Aang did. This fight pushed her to desperately fight for her life, something she likely never expected she'd have to do. To put her life on the line to save others. It's a reality check for Korra and messes her mental state up so much. This fight changes her so much.

This season finale is absolute perfection and I'm so glad you guys enjoyed it. This episode is the point where this show and ATLA truly bind together. If you've only watched LOK its a wonderful moment, but if you've seen both then its a transcendent experience. No matter how many times I rewatch it I always tear up when Jinora removes her cloak and the airbenders make the wind chimes ring.
I think that culmination of moments is what makes us cry for mixed emotions. Knowing she's the first in the youngest generation, that she's Aang's granddaughter, she looks like Aang, and then the new airbenders fully embracing their new culture by being a crucial aspect of the ceremony. Add the hopeful soundtrack that swells as the scene continues and that people of all nations and the new president (representing nonbenders) are there too to witness it.
Then you realize Aang isn't there, but his dream is, and then it's almost as if you cry for him in happiness and relief and faith for the future.

This is why I always say Korra is the strongest Avatar ever, she survived getting her limbs twisted through psychic bloodbending, was smashed into rocks and god knows what else by a bunch of crazy outcasts, had a spirit literally ripped out of her physical body and survived being poisoned with what looks like gallons OF PURE LIQUID MERCURY! Yes, she's not the most powerful(Aang) , skilled(Yangchen) or even badass(Kyoshi), but girl can take damage and handle PAIN (head on) like no other avatar ever

On the ground certainly both Korra and Tenzin would easily beat him. But flying really is a huge advantage. His flying is much more useful than Korra's fire flying. With his flying he can be super evasive in the air and dodge from far away and for Korra when she's flying it's much harder to move around properly and bend attacks at him. For Zaheer he can continue flying freely and bend attacks back. He's definitely not a better bender, but flying adds enough of an advantage to sneak a win in.

The poison was a harsh way to do it but I always felt like she needed to be humbled throughout S1-2. She was way too eager to make big moves as a young Avatar and wouldn’t take advice from those who were only trying to help her. She became impulsive and reckless not realising she was potentially endangering those around her until it was too late. Although it partly wasn’t her fault as the White Lotus were overprotective (as per the orders of Aang before he necked) and how they held important information from her while she was trained from them didn’t help her grow. They could’ve at least made her aware of the dangers and trained her appropriately rather than withholding info and directly contributing to her impatience and rebellious nature

Zaheer is a common name in West and South Asia as well as North Africa that is inspired by the Islamic concept of Quran interpretation, which can be divided into its "apparent meaning" or zahir (Arabic: ظاهر‎) and its "inner meaning" or batin (Arabic: باطن). Prior to Zaheer's escape from his prison, he explained to a White Lotus sentry a similar concept in interpreting the poetry of Guru Laghima, with zahir relating to "what you see" and batin relating to the "truth within the myth". Zahir is associated with Arabic, Hebrew, Urdu, Swahili, and Turkish languages.
    * The name Zaheer is also similar to the word "zehir" ( زہر ), which means "poison" in Turkish and Urdu, relating to how he used poison in an attempt to kill Korra.
    * In the Chinese dub, Zaheer's name is written as 查希爾.

Now that the book is done, I want to talk about why I consider the Red Lotus to be the best villains in LoK.
I like villains who are pure evil, like Ozai. Villains who are just unambiguously villainous, and you can just want them to lose. And I also like villains who have legitimate points, where it's possible to agree with their goals, which is what the writers wanted Korra's villains to be.
What I don't like is when the writers do both. Make a villain who has a legitimate point, only to then have them do some unrelated Bad Thing to remind the audience that we're not supposed to side with them. Like, should Wakanda have compromised its policy of isolationism when innocent people from neighboring countries were sold into slavery? Who cares, N'Jadaka is destroying the HSH so that the legacy of the Black Panther will die with him. On the one hand, Grindelwald's argument that subverting the nomajes' freedom in order to prevent the Holocaust does sound really good to anti-Holocaust people like me, buuuut he killed that little chupacabra that helped him for no reason whatsoever so bring on the gas, I guess. Pirates are dangerous, so even someone like Ace is fair game for the government officials like Akainu whose job is to keep people safe, but when he kills the evacuees of Ohara after promising them safe passage, you know he has no leg to stand on.
The first two seasons of the Legend of Korra also had this issue. Amon and the Equalists posed an interesting moral dilemma. We know that benders have a physical advantage over nonbenders. Criminal organizations can victimize nonbenders with little pushback, Republic City's unelected government is made entirely of benders, the most popular sport is one only benders can play. When Mako needed quick money, he was able to get a job that was literally only possible for firebenders; presumably, any nonbender in a similar situation would be screwed. Tarrlok was able to specifically cut off power in nonbender homes, implying a level of ghettoization. And we know from real life that a society can survive without bending. All of which are pretty substantial arguments for the Equalist cause, and how is it resolved? Well, it turns out Amon was lying about his backstory and he's actually a bender, so just ignore all the systemic issues.
Unalaq was even worse. The first half of Book 2 set up a narrative about the Southern Tribe losing touch with spiritual tradition in favor of commercialism, about the Northern Tribe technically having authority over the Southern Tribe, about a return to their roots. There's even a little morally complex backstory where Tonraq protected the Northern Tribe from a physical human threat at the cost of destroying a place of spiritual significance. Then in the second half we find out that Unalaq was just seeking power and he was going to use Vaatu the spirit of darkness and destruction to become a Dark Avatar and plunge the world into 10 000 years lf chaos, about as morally black and white as it gets. Oh, and also, he arranged the barbarian attack all those years ago specifically to get Tonraq banished, so I guess the fact that Tonraq still made the choice to destroy the spirit place is no longer his fault.
But the Red Lotus? They're anarchists. They believe that hierarchy leads to tyrants abusing their power, and they have the Earth Queen, President Raiko, and multiple generations of Fire Lords over the course of a century as solid examples. And every single bad thing they do is directly tied to furthering their goals. Killing the Earth Queen, destroying the walls of Ba Sing Se, trying to put an end to the Avatar Cycle.
So, yeah. These guys are right up there with the likes of Stain, Dashkov, or Thanos.

Fuck man korras single tear always breaks me. Seeing her bright eyed and on her way to republic city then seeing her beat down and physically and mentally. Truly broken by her experiences. The only thing she ever wanted;to be the avatar; then to be confronted by her biggest fear, that the world doesn't need her anymore only for it to be rubbed in even deep by tenzins proclamation to go out into the world in her stead to try and fill her shoes while she recovers. A great gesture but for her it's only confirmation.

This actually is the best book in the entire avatar universe for me, I´m not despected on Aang´s story but seriously this book is really revolutionary, so brave, so strong, well built, concise and that final scene showing the oposite joyful by Jinora´s ceremony and Korra sadness is so beautiful as heartbreaking as well. So sad that the next book is the last one and finished this greatful sequel... Keep going

I want you to remember two important facts:
    1) The Avatar state is just Korra. She has no help from previous avatars, so this is just her raw power
    2) Jinora is the youngest airbending master in history. The second youngest is Aang

The only thing that the creators of Avatar do that I don't like is that after defeating a difficult, incredible and cool villain, they make a gag scene to ridicule him as a typical cartoon for small children, like they did with Ozai and now with Zaheer. To me, it ruins the mood of them being good villains.

Jinora had a lot of great moments, I wish they wouldve given the "its metallic" line to someone else. Maybe let Zaheer say "The mercury is doing its work" instead of just poison, then Asami can be like "Wait, mercury is metallic, Su, Lin you can help!"
There was just a lot in Jinoras lap. That was one detail too much in my opinion, an alternative woudlve pushed it to a 10/10 for me i think. Many characters are a bit underutilised

yeah, i've said this before, but i don't hate korra (well LOK), the only thing i disliked about the show, was the romance, because it was all over the place holy shit! but other than that, its a pretty awesome show, it gives the audience more insight into "the avatar", a little about its history if that makes sense, as well of the sheer power of the elements on the hands of a bender (i mean more insane fights). i also like that it dwells more into darker elements (because in comparison to atla, the latter's main characters are kids, in LOK, the main characters are diving into their late teens and have all the problems teens experience if not more), it's insane and i really like it because you can empathize with korra and the fucking trauma she went through and placed into-- when she really thought she was just going to have fun since she was the avatar and aang had resolved all the issues and republic city was this "peaceful" place, but she was completely wrong.
