  • In this video I restore an old family toolbox to usable condition. It has been in my life for some time and has been missing handles, dinged up and needed some attention. In part 1 I disassemble, remove paint and get it ready for a finish. This is a project that anyone can tackle to bring back and restore a good quality toolbox.
    Thanks for watching!

    3M makes an adhesive remover that works great on stickers. It loosens the glue and the stickers practically fall off. Saves a lot of scraping.

      Thank you for that! I have another toolbox I want to restore and I will give that a try.

    My father-in-law has that exact same box (in similar condition). I'm gonna ask him if I can restore it. Great video! Thanks for sharing with us.

    Love restoring old tool box’s. A wire wheel on a grinder would save you a lot of time and frustration tho.

      It was a lot of fun. I tried a little off camera and I didn't get very good results and I didn't want to burn through with a flap disk.

    I recently watched another video on the same subject but the dude simply left all hardware on the box and pained it the same bright red he used on the box itself. He didn’t even tape up the handles or the latches. What a waste of time and effort. I was very pleased to see you didn’t do that. Give yourself a big pat on the back!

      Yeah I agree! That's a lot of trouble to go through. Honestly getting and using that pop riveter makes that process much more achievable and easier to do. I appreciate the compliment!

    Heat gun for stickers maybe would work.

    Thanks for showing that trick with the slides. I'm working on a Union box and I think that might be the trick for that box too.

    I wouldn't wait more than 20 minutes to scrape off that stripper. Once it dries it l adheres back to the surface. While the stripper is still wet it will peel right off.

    what size anvil was that you used to punch out the rivets?

    • @TheCatanzaroShop
      @TheCatanzaroShop  Před 2 lety

      It's about a 10 lb anvil or so. You can get away with any size for something like that! Even an anvil on a vice!
