- Kenya's Kelvin Kiptum stormed to victory in the men's London Marathon, with the second-fastest marathon time in history, 2:01:27, missing out on the world record by 18 seconds. Fellow Kenyan Geoffrey Kamworor finished second and Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia came third.

If he's that close to the WR that was set in Berlin, this kid has possibly already surpassed Eliud Kipchoge in ability right now. Given that he is still improving each year at only 23, he could end up taking the WR in Berlin perhaps surpassing the all time best and getting under 1:59:40 in an actual marathon

Yes, but berlin is the absolute gold standard for a world record course. I think the last 10 world record was set in berlin dating back to that immortal 2.03.59 by haile gebresilase. Back then, 2.04 was the equivalent of the sub 2 barrier and he broke that in berlin and so many followed post that!

The comments are so bad. The speakers don't even had a table to see if his position on the route matches the record or not. It was obvious he was going to break the record at 40km but they had no clue.

The commentary could have been better. I mean it's not rocket science. Neither commentator was really aware of what Kelvin Kiptum was doing. He basically missed the world record by a small margin and it only dawned on Pavey & co. after Kiptum had finished. The same with Mo Farah. No mention of him shattering the British over-40 record. Or Chris Thompson doing likewise.

KELVIN (feel the heat) put in a massive effort with that astounding sprint at the end. Pity Eurosport couldn't make just a tiny bit of effort to get his name right in the title, but I guess this CZcams uploading is pretty gruelling and they were probably too tired.

To put this time in context, you can consider yourself a good cyclist if you cover this distance (in these conditions) in two hours!! Kiptum is now firmly in Superhero territory.
are you kidding ?? I cover that distance in 1H20' in a triathlon and I am average cyclist. A good one will do it in 1H. A pro will need 50' or less.
