Hero.
4. Using a shower filter if you have hard water.
I am going back to combing dry hair. When I was a kid with natural hair, I braided my hair every single night and my hair grew longer. Getting out shed hairs at least once a week is so important but not discussed much. Shed hairs that stay in your hair cause tangles. If your hair is strong, you should not have breakage. Keeping the sheds hairs out will make combing your hair easier. It's the shed hairs that cause breakage, tangles and matting.
Hey there! I agree and thank you for bringing this to my attention that we don't discuss this often. Removing shed hair absolutely cuts back on breakage due to tangles. I will add this my video list for the month. 💜

this is my first time here I'm a new subscriber🎉
thank you for such an informative video ❤
I'm commenting here🎉
because she said she's going to go back to combing dry hair?
I went back and listen but I thought you said in the video only comb damp?
I get my hair blow-dried and straightened so what is your suggestion to use....
I wrap my hair at night and when I wake up....
instead of combing it or brushing it what would you suggest please?❤
@@KatinaLifeCoach4444 so when your hair is stretched from blow drying or twists/braids, you can comb it dry because its stretched, so that's fine. I'm going to create another video clarifying this.
Was you hair straightened?
@@celeste821 hey there! Was my hair straightened in general? You can comb hair dry when it’s straightened or blown out, or after a twist out …
What a public service announcement!!!!!! I am shocked! I’ve been doing everything wrong! Natural for 15 years, with damage and slow growth. Now there’s hope thank you❤
You are soo welcome! It’s never too late to make these basic changes!
Lol
I just succeeded in growing my edges back. I totally embrace the letting the hair breathe in between protective styles. Natural hair is actually hard work tbh
Yassssss!!! Awesome! Yes! Take a protective style holiday! Natural hair can certainly be work to maintain but glad you are figuring it out. 🙌🏾
@@KarenofCurlHouse Thank you Ma'am for the encouragement and your sharing of knowledge. Am off to work in my 'breathing hair,' not looking very glamorous but toughing it out🤣
How can taking care of yourself be hard work? I would have thought it would be a pleasure.
@@tulippurple349trust me it's hard work.
@tulippurple349 even for instance exercising the discipline to pursue a weight loss programme consistently for one's own self can be hard or deciding to give up smoking. One is doing for one's own self and yet it is hard.
This being said, my comment falls under the umbrella of purely personal experience and not universality. Therefore your question actually is a non sense (devoid of any meaning) in that what is hard for one person may be a walk in the park for another. In fact, there are sufferers of mental illness who see taking care of themselves as something wrong.
So please, if you have no valid point to make, how about maintaining silence?
Natural hair is actually very fragile, doing all that needs to be done is hard and tiresome. Which is why many leave in protective styles for too long.
I’ve been natural for almost 14 years and this video was a refreshing reminder of when and how my hair truly grew. Thank you for sharing as I need to go back to these vital tips. Blessings.
You are so welcome! 🙌🏾
U need a betta hair style
@@awillis244 I am more than satisfied with the variety of styles I wear and better yet, with who I am that I can celebrate others and the choices they make for themselves. Have a wonderful evening.
@TheGospelSource I love your hairstyle! Classic and beautiful not that you need anyones opinion pr approval. God bless you
I am guilty of the over protective styling, the towels, and not cleaning hair tools. I just decided to give my hair a forced break from braids. It's hard because I don't like dealing with my hair. I'm taking notes❤
One of the best natural hair videos I’ve watched in a while. I learned so much and starting so many little changes. We just have to be patient. Thank you❤️
You are so welcome!!!! Thank you so much!
Agreed!!
Agreed 👍🏽 ❤
Excellent information. Thank You
You are soooooo right for the most part .... but for me i found the cool water rinsing actually ruined my hair made it incredibly dry and resistent to moisturising. It took a couole years to get it back to normal with a warm rinse.
Thank you Karen .. great suggestions 🥰💙

Thanks for the great tips. Rinsing my conditioner out with cool water has made a big difference. I have a whole house filtration system. Florida has some of the hardest water in the country.
I wash my tools in hot water and dawn/bleach after every wash. I'm a little extra. Age has turned me into a germaphobe.
Seems like you got your wash routine perfect!
This video was chock full of great advice. Thanks.

Thank you for the helpful tips!! I try to wash my combs and brushes everytime I wash my hair. I also use bottle water at room temperature and a final rinse b/c I have hard water. Misting my hair B4 I detangle is very helpful and reduce pain . I am tender headed.

Hey there!!!! My pleasure 😊
Helpful information since I wore a buzzcut for more than 40 years, then COVID-19 hit..no more trips to my stylist..I have been natural most of my life..had a perm in 1995; colored it red in 2003 for about three years; in 2008, deciding no more color. Now I just braid it every night, fluff it the next day..and just let it grow..
May we have a tutorial for this beautiful hairstyle please? I’m begging. This is stunning and so classy.
Sure thing! Here you go…. czcams.com/video/GbV9Vf0BPFc/video.htmlsi=suSTAhMXzASpoCGh

Thank you for this advice. I’m a newbie natural and cannot find a product for moisture and shine. It just sit on top of my hair. Do you have any tips?
Appreciate the tip on using cool water when rinsing conditioner. Thank you~
You are welcome!
I remember a white classmate in high school saying she rinsed in cool water. Her hair was thick and long down her back.
🎉🎉 thanks for the info. I’m the girl who needs to not repeatedly get protective styles. This explains why my stylist recommended And the misting of hair with conditioner n water pre comb is another great top
Glad it was helpful!! Fabulous!! Protective Style Holidays are always recommended 😘
This is really good information for someone like me who is new to being natural.
Awesome! Welcome to the Curl House Community and welcome to natural hair!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@KarenofCurlHouse can you create a video for those of us who are new to natural hair with pointers on how to get curl definition. I’m officially a year in and I have high porosity hair. I cannot get my hair to keep its curl.

Great Job - But I wonder how I can get that wig that you used for towel drying example.
Haha! That was a manniquin head! 😂
What are your thoughts on using salicylic acid on the hair / scalp?
I saw this video after doing a few of things that you mention after I'd washed, conditioned and also using the towel.I will try to bear the cool water, not using a towel but t-shirt
A t shirt works too! 🙌🏾
How long is too long to wear a wig, especially if I have CCCA and my hair is really broken off? I wash it every two weeks, oil my scalp every 2 to 3 days, and deep condition as well. I'm trying to give my hair a break and not manipulate it too much until it gets healthy again.
Never had a protective style or shower filter.
And I know your hair is fabulous! I didn’t start using a shower filter until last year when my hair broke off from my changing water
Help! About 3 years ago I did the big chop. I cut it down to about 2-3 inches and every now and then after it grew I would cut it. Now that I'm letting it grow and omg it is soon thick its kind of hard to manage. Any suggestion on how to make it more manageable?
Thank you for these tips. I’m so happy that I’ve finally overcome hair loss that led to alopecia cos of some of these bad habits. I’ve shared my journey too on my channel so people can learn. Natural hair is so delicate and we need to know these things 🥰😍
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING! Headed over to page! Love to hear about restoration journeys! That's awesome!
As l sit here with a elastic band in my hair..😮 thanks!
Haha! You got the knowledge now 🙌🏾
Thanks very informative
