    Connor's surprise at slavery is my biggest problem with this game. As a Native American, it's upsetting to see the general fact that Natives had slaves before pilgrims ever came over, not just erased, but completely reversed, a slap in the face. What's the point of making a game based around the birth of a nation and the struggle of native americans if you know so little about them.

      I actually got this game on release and never beat it. I got to about the half way point, stopped playing, and just never went back. By the time I remembered I actually owned the game I had forgotten every major plot point and didn't care to remind myself, so I just traded it in at a gamestop after a watching the end of the game in a youtube video. It's one of the few games I bought and genuinely regret buying because it just wasn't worth it.

      Dard Hildo
      you can't have a musket that is rifled, they are diffrent things. a rifle is smooth bore, aka the tube the bullet shoots through is smooth. rifling was a new invention from america where you'd ad a corkscrew pattern into the tube called "rifling" that would cause the bullet to spin like a football so it would have better distance and accuracy, and would hit harder. A musket rifle is like saying an orange blue-bluebird.

      ***** It was criminally overrated. Game of the year for a mess of storytelling and zero research that, in the gameplay department, resides somewhere between GTA III and Vice City? No.
      Also, add to that list of mine another game: Watch UNDERSCORE Dogs.

    • @ZlatkoTheGod
      @ZlatkoTheGod Před 9 lety

      Akhamesh The worst part is GTA V isn't too much better. I mean of course it's significantly better than the abomination that was IV but it's still below San Andreas in terms of actual gameplay features. How can that even happen with a 100 mil budget?
      Also, I'd love to know what bike handling was like in GTA IV but I can't because I coul barely run it at over 5 FPS.
      And yes, the last two soundtracks were dreadful. I mean you have a Serbian protagonist (neglecting the fact that the Kilimanjaro is more Serbian than that protagonist) and you put no classic Yugoslavian rock in the game? What fucking brain dead moron picked that soundtrack?

    • @ZlatkoTheGod
      @ZlatkoTheGod Před 9 lety +1

      ***** I have a policy when it comes to games: When you buy a game, it must be all of the game that you're buying, the completed thing, no strings attached. I find waiting for DLC and shit like that to make the game bearable unacceptable.
      Akhamesh Oh trust me V's radio is terrible as well. Maybe not as terrible as GTA IV but I wouldn't know because I remember next to nothing from GTA IV because it was simply too boring. Hell there was a callback to a heist from IV in V and I had to go to CZcams to find a video of it to see it and realise that I don't remember a fucking thing. But yeah, at least the port of V is good enough to make the mods amazing.

    AC3 is just a culmination of the "more is more" thinking in the games industry today. Instead of crafting a complete product, they shove a bunch of ideas together and hope for the best. To me, there is some good hidden under the layers of developmental fat in this game. Some of the "modern" missions wsre enjoyable. But with cardboard cutout characters and a protagonist with less personality than an accountant on heroin you just don't care about the game. Only exception is Haytham. Love that guy.

    having played all the AC games up to ACIII i have up to this point enjoyed the games. since they focused on not only how you assassinate your target but WHY you do it. it shows what effect each kill you executed had on the bigger picture. and in some cases it showed the ripple effect it had in the game world. with each kill you did the city guards would become more suspicious of your presense in a area. do enough out in the open assassinations and the towns citizens would not hesitate to rat you out.
    then i get to ACIII after having seen the trailer. and...i have yet to see the main protagonist in full assassin gear. and now knowing i have to muck about with fetch quests and escort quests for 9 HOURS before i apparently earn the right to play the role of A ASSASSIN makes me want to pick the game back up even less.
    and people think I am the crazy one for not understanding how being a pirate on a ship has ANYTHING to do with being a assassin fighting a war with a religious cult bent on ruling the world.

    Or to summarize, AC3 was a phenomenal game. I mean, no, it doesn’t have the best story, and yes there are more glitches than in the others. But the vast majority of it is very fun. They improved the parkour, combat, and stealth; took out hassles like medicine, repairing armor, and having to hunt down pigeon coops just to manage your assassins; and added a long overdue weather system (which they did extremely well). Heck, they even gave side content some much needed improvements! Collectibles are more engaging, unlocking fast travel points is more fun than “Ehh, just throw some of my infinite supply of money at it!”, and the inclusion of hunting and naval combat give us something new to do for a change and in new types of environments. Oh, and the Forts are infinitely better than the last two games’ Borgia Towers and Templar Dens.

    • @Vic2point0
      @Vic2point0 Před 8 lety +2

      ***** "Phenomenal?"
      Yes, and I listed tons of reasons why, the vast majority of which you had nothing to say about in response.
      "Let's dumb the controls down to shit and make climbing automated so if you so much as touch a wall you're scaling it and insta-fail our so-many chasing missions like the thrice-damned "chase hickey" level LMFAO!""
      Oh c'mon, even those missions are not that hard. Some of the *tailing* missions are a pain in the ass, but that has nothing to do with the controls. You just never got good at it. Yes, the parkour was improved; tree-running would be a chore if not impossible without it.
      "To add insult to injury, all you had to do to advance in multiplayer was BUY THE FUCKING PERKS."
      Now online I have no idea; it may very well suck.

    • @Vic2point0
      @Vic2point0 Před 8 lety +1

      ***** ME: "Yes, and I listed tons of reasons why, the vast majority of which you had nothing to say about in response."
      YOU: "Because they didn't outweigh the shit it was."
      How do you figure improved parkour, improved combat, improved *stealth,* and all of the other things I mentioned don't outweigh "Sometimes you grab onto a wall unintentionally" and "The multiplayer's not as good"?
      "My argument is controls. I don't want to automatically shove a civilian or scale a wall, I want CONTROL over those things,"
      And you had it! You just had to be more mindful of how close to the walls you were. And of course you could slow down to keep from touching the walls too. Look, I'm not saying I wasn't annoyed with the same problem multiple times. But I learned from it. I got better. And then everything else about the game completely won me over.
      As for automatically shoving civilians as opposed to bumping into them, stumbling and falling like you just got hit by a car? I'm very grateful for that change.
      "ESPECIALLY when perfect sync with memories is tied into NOT shoving a civilian or something."
      Well this is another feature I don't think it's fair to fault AC3 for specifically. It was brought in with Brotherhood, and the only optional objective I ever agreed with was "Do not be detected". Everything else is irrelevant and annoying.
      "Maybe you weren't good at the parkour before and needed that level of "streamlining" to even pass as halfway decent."
      Not at all, I got through all of the other games just fine. Got 100% on all of them even. But AC3 got rid of unnecessary button holding and still required me to have the skill to operate the analog sticks. It wasn't any more or less challenging, IMO, just less of a hassle. As were many other things concerning AC3 as opposed to the previous games.
      "In terms of geometry, the game engine doesn't know the difference between a city building and a fucking tree. So no, tree running wouldn't have been a goddamned chore."
      Sure it would. You'd constantly be falling off of tree branches in the wrong direction.

    • @Vic2point0
      @Vic2point0 Před 8 lety

      ***** Okay, I can kind of understand why you'd argue about the parkour and *maybe* the combat. But are you seriously going to deny the *stealth* was improved in AC3? You're just not wanting to give this game any credit, pure and simple. I bet next you're going to tell me the Ezio trilogy had better *naval* combat :P
      "I think the stealth was nonexistent,"
      Except that stealth mechanics were added, as were stealth locations.
      "Oh yes, break the controls and gameplay to increase tension."
      We haven't agreed that the controls or gameplay *are* broken. They work perfectly fine, they just require you to be more skilled with the analog sticks and require less button-holding.
      "Let's break a well-oiled machine for no fucking reason."
      No, let's be honest and admit that accidentally jumping off of things and grabbing walls you didn't mean to has been a complaint of the franchise since day one.
      "I truly thought every sequel was better than the one before it, (until 3)"
      Well at least we share *that* controversial opinion. Most people on the internet will tell you that AC2 was far better than Brotherhood and Revelations. They won't have any good *reasons* to think that, but they will insist on it.
      "Dude, you wouldn't fall unless you leaped. Ever since the first AC, when you approached a ledge you looked down."
      That depends on how high up you are. But also, it's a little more difficult to see where the next branch *is,* and ruin the flow of it all, thus making it more efficient to just run everywhere and never even bother with the tree-running.

    • @Vic2point0
      @Vic2point0 Před 8 lety +1

      ***** I guess we just won't agree on the parkour. I think the level of *skill* needed is about the same, and must reiterate once more that it's simply less button-holding when all you're doing is running around. It doesn't affect challenge, to me, just the level of "work" you put in.
      "Now I'm climbing walls and trees I had no intention of climbing. God Bless America."
      Learn to steer?
      "I think they have some sound arguments. I understand why I think the way they do. I just don't agree."
      Only thing I keep hearing is that AC2 brought in a ton of improvements. But there's a difference between "Game with most improvements" and "Best game".
      "They are lined up in a clear path."
      Oh c'mon! You would most definitely have to slow down and look on almost every branch to know for sure where you should be facing when you push the button to jump!
      "there was no need to automate shoving and climbing in the parkour system."
      We've talked about climbing. But did you really get anything out of bumping into a couple pedestrians and falling to the ground in the other games? Wasn't it just a tad unbelievable that someone who could balance himself on ultra-thin beams while running couldn't keep himself from stumbling like a two-year old after bumping into someone?

      ***** "The camera literally moves with you, and he mostly without fail jumps in the direction he's supposed to when you hold forward and jump. The level design is generally always letting you know where to go, and you have it figured out before it's even time to jump."
      So basically, you would take away my inclination to move the *camera* around. How is that better? I'm sorry, I really think you're being disingenuous to argue that the tree-running wouldn't be a mess without the new controls.
      ME: "But did you really get anything out of bumping into a couple pedestrians and falling to the ground in the other games?"
      YOU: "Actually yes, me smacking myself upside the head for not being more mindful of my surroundings. So now we ask Ubisoft to automate that for us so we're shoving them around constantly?"
      Okay so why can't you have the same attitude about not steering your character around buildings and such so that you don't accidentally start climbing one?

    Oh damn, at 3:56, I leave a few blocks from that 24 Hour Fitness (in San Diego on Midway Dr.).
    The commercials for this game did not make it look appealing. Captain Kidd's sword as a bonus from Gamestop? No thanks.
    I'm glad there are reviews like this to tell the downside of the over-hyped games that have a LOT of TV commercial time.

    You know what else didn't need naval warfare? Sonic Rush Adventure; the fuck was the point of that in a game meant to be about speed and blowing up robots?
    Maybe Mario will do it next.

    This is what happens when you have developers make a new game every year. After a while, bullshit was bound to come spewing out.

    I hadn't assumed any impression of your person at all, I just wanted to make a remark on something I had generated an impression on, your reactions, which I must now reevaluate due to my own folly.
