Pro-tip: If you're planning on creating one at home, make sure you do not collect rocks near any water source (they can heat up, causing stored water to steam and the rock to explode)
Source: Been there, done that while camping
Thanks for the tip Kyle! Appreciated.
Just a couple fyi's. Porous river stones can explode when heated if they've not been thoroughly dried before use. Galvanised/zinc coated steel can give off dangerous fumes when heated. This gel stuff doesn't look like it burns hot enough to burn the zinc, but it pays to be aware of these things.
Your big fire pit is EXACTLY what I was looking for for a Summer Solstice celebration that I'm conducting. THANK YOU!!!
Don't use river rocks for this, the moisture inside can cause them to explode.
good call. That flame would need be really intense to get the water to steam, no? low temp would dry the rocks, eliminating the steam explosion, no?
Brilliant idea!! You're going to save me a small fortune :) Thanks so much for sharing.
Very cool! Thank you for the great idea!
Brilliant ideas!!! Thanks greatly for sharing!!! I love the way you used recycled materials!!!

"There's a kestrel" made my day
So glad I found this channel! I love making crap and all this stuff is awesome!!! It is like a month before Christmas and I now have a bunch of dope homemade gifts to make that are personalized and cool, but don't have to look like a kindergarten art project! Love it!
Genius! Thanks for sharing.

"I went searching for well rounded rocks- There's a kestrel."
This is why this channel is one I am subscribed to.
that's what got me too 😂
awesome vid, definitely gonna try
Fantastic. Will have to give that a try
Love this! Thank you!
Bah que legal! Gostei muito! Vou fazer!
Très bon travail comme d'habitude !
"Then I found myself an empty tin can." Oh hey look a bunch of empty tin cans on the ground!
Thank you! Great instruction!
Wow it's a great idea and it's very cool..!
I loved your lighter!😍
Interesting, thanks for the video man!
Отличная идея, нужно будет попробовать
Ive totally fallen in love! You are epic ("there's a kestrel" haha!)
and your DIYs are fabulous! keep it up :D Plus, a big hey from Birmingham!
Great video, just off to DIY shop with my son.
The bucket one was a portable fire place because it has a handle! Cool!
awesome dude.
Once again awesome video!
I miss the funny ending you used to do back in the day though!
I would not use rocks in a fire pit. Rocks can explode if there is any moisture inside them. Get some lava rocks for fire places if you want but don't use rocks you find on the ground.
thanks
Great advice, thanks.
Yes, very important. The wrong stone can explode in a fire ! Get some real lavastones !
Fun fact
Yup
Thanks for the great vid and info! I was trying to find out if the gel fuel could be spread out over a larger area than the can it comes in or to use in an ethanol fire place that has the long rectangle shape burner. Seems like all the warnings say only used the can it came in bla bla bla for safety reasons. Of course there gonna play it safe. Gel is still dangerous if splattered while burning, the Veteran in me wants to use agent orange as an example, you cant just brush it off if it gets on you, that just spreads it out further, best way is to cover it up or baking soda, but if people have half the pucker factor I have when using open flames, should be ok. Someone also mentioned, but good to know that certain materials like stone, rocks, ceramics can "pop" when heated, just like large pieces of pottery being fired in a kiln, if you don't get all the air pockets out of the clay, it could explode in the kiln. There was a mega recall of ceramic gel fire bowls years back, not because of exploding, but because someone tried to refill the bowl when it wasn't cooled down enough and it flashed back and burned 25% of there skin because they tried to brush it off, which made it worse. So there still pretty safe as long as you take precautions and use a bit of common sense. Thanks again for the vid, got exactly what I needed to know!
There's a kestrel
Is it _faster than light_?
***** Oh he did...
Well, how to stop the fire whenever I need? is it possible to stop the fire when the gel is still in the pot?
U should have shown the fire at night so we can see the flames better. Loving the content 😍
I got the rocks no problem, but I'm having trouble catching the required kestrel. My problem seems to be: it flies and I do not.
Any advice?
Build wings out of feathers and wax.
GreenLeafForever
Don't fly too close to the sun though.
GreenLeafForever Calm down Icarus.
Ghost81 Get a budgie.

wow.. ive looked around and that gel is pretty exspensive.. is there anywhere i could find it for under $10 (usd) a bottle?
Good video .. How do you know what rocks to use so they don't explode though?
nice new cool intro
Does it smoke? Can I use it indoors
I will bring this idea to my next 2-nighter camping trip in the huge woods in my backyard :3 Me and my friends do that almost every other weekend during school and summer XD It's a great time. But, yes this would be great instead of building a real fire... too hard and five hours WOW! :3 "Modded" survival Camping as in we bring a hatchet and other stuff we need XD
Do you have to wait until the bucket cools down before moving or storing? Because I would think that it would get really hot.
Now I kinda wanna order some of that gel just to set the bottle aflame.
"I'm currently looking for- BIRD!!!!!!!!"
Can you use glass instead of stones
Which supermarket did you get the fuel. ThANKS
2:04 THAT ADD THOUGH
2:04 There is a kestral I PEED MY PANTS AHHAHA LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Theres a kestrel
I laughed so hard when he said wire mesh stuff
Question where can I get that one large iron bowl, I have looked just about everywhere that I can think of where they my sell it but no luck.
Dude i just stumbled on your channel .. How awesome are you hey !! Solid stuff if i get arrested can I say u taught me ? :p nah awesome channel ! Thanks man !
Was the inner bowl necessary for the bigger pit?
Does the bucket get hot enough to shatter the glass on the table you set it on?
its all fun and games until a rock explodes
Could you technically do this with a baking tin too?
How do you put it out?
How do you put it out
The bugs and midgets at bay
I think he said midges.
TrackpadProductions Way to be a fucking buzzkill.
Gotta hate when swarms of midgets come and ruin your parties.
Necromancer Bernard Gah, I hate it when that happens.
Keep the bitchs away.

Made me think of the movie UP......"SQUIRREL!"🐿
What did you use to cut the tin can in half?
im going to make like... 7 of these
I'd love to try this, but unfortunately open fire pits are kinda illegal in my neighbourhood. :(
Did you cover the entire grill and flames still burned through the rocks?
Is it safe to cook on one of these bad boys?
Where can that fuel be purchased. I can't find it anywhere.
Hardware store in the BBq isle
Can you please put your Instructables link in the description?
Hey does anyone know what local super market he got the fire anywhere gem stuff from?
Is there a odor produced with this gel?
There's a kestrel! LOL :))
Whats the song at the end?
where the neck do you find iron bowls?
Try a flea market
What can I use to last a long time instead of the gel fuel?
I was thinking gasoline but way to short and flamable
I found some on Amazon
Can't the rocks explode
what dose it look like at night !!!
How long have u been doing CZcams
What did you use to light it?
It's a mini jet lighter blowtorch
Hi what shop did you get the gel from
Angie Edgar f off
can u make a flaming ball of death?
I wonder what that stuff is even made up off. And...what the best way to kill it off is/how it behaves?
Alcohol, which burns clean. Which is why you can't use it for Wood fires etc :)
There's a kestrel.
Random kestrel
Should've used a paste of 99% isopropyl alcohol and antacid... :)
anyone know if it'd be safe to cook smores over that type of fuel?
I'm sure you can try it
Did you try it, are you still alive?
Abbygail naw no do it he dead
But how how hot does it get? Because I think stones explode (pop) when they get too hot so?
Was thinking the same thing.
I've never heard anything like that. Why would they? It wouldn't be so common to secure firepits with stones if they did. I even think that rocks were sometime in the past used in heat systems as they give heat back very slowly. So I think that nothing unexpected should happen.
The danger is only there if you heat the rocks too quickly or they cool down too quickly. Basically, unless you use thermite as fuel or throw the hot rocks into a bucket of ice, it should be safe.
However, if you're really worried, you can purchase stone specifically sold for fire pits or their thermal glass equivalent; these products are designed to be heated, so they are screened for weaknesses (micro-fissures that might cause shattering during expansion/contraction) before sale.
Besides, fire pits don't get that hot anyway. Unless your pit is a bonfire, I don't think it'll get hot enough to cause problems in the first place.
There's a kestrel lmfao 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Where is song 'Everything about Danielle'? Did you delete it? I want to sing this song and now I can't... :/
Lava rocks will look a lot nicer and safer...good day mate cheerioooo
Be careful with the rocks because some rocks like to explode
Why the rocks?
If you don't like rocks you can put fireworks in it to make it look decorative yet colorful
5 hour ...😲
