  • A sound comparison of three ukuleles made by the same manufacturer, from the same series and made from the same materials. The only difference is one is a concert, one a concert with pineapple body shape and one a tenor.
The ukes in the video are available from World of Ukes:

There is definitely something in the shape of the pineapple that influences the sound. Am surprised as it, in my opinion, sounds closer to the tenor than the concert. All lovely Ukes, with great sustain. Have a great week.

Yes I agree. A lady yesterday was thinking about one but said everyone at her club advised against it. Not sure why on this evidence.

Great comparison with all acacia, thanks Matt. I thought the pineapple sounded fuller, like the tenor. So many combinations we can have with different woods and strings too. I appear to have collected 3 Millar concerts, just in different woods haha.

@@WorldofUkes hehe that is just the Millar T concerts. I'm not counting the other brands or sizes. At least, that is what I tell my therapist...

All good - I have the concert (indeed purchased from you three years ago now on a visit to the shop). The pineapple adds warmth. The tenor adds warmth and more sustain (and makes me think about tuning down a semitone or two, but I’m odd like that with tenors).
Different instruments for different needs - for example I like the bluesy stuff best on the concert, but other pieces on other instruments.

Horses for courses indeed. I liked different ones for different tunes in this video.

Thanks for this, Matt! I recently got the pineapple, and apart from the fact that it's a little neck-heavy, I really enjoy playing it. Feels like something way more expensive. One thing I found out was that the nut is removable, just like the saddle. How cool is that? So it's super easy to adjust the action at the first fret, if needed.

I am glad you see the purpose - often people think they're faulty as they're not stuck down!
