Duke is a 160 pound, 9 year old and still has the zoomies. It’s so fun to watch this old guy sprint around the backyard. Duke lives indoors and he loves to buzz our outside small (70 pound) dogs. He will get up to full speed and run as close as he can by them, as if to say “look at me, how fast I am!”
@@GreatDaneCare thank you I have learned so much from you and Gus, and I am going to use the information because I am getting a Great Dane puppy next weekend!
The 1st time we took Apollo, who is now 4 years old, to the dog park we almost got sued. LOL I can joke about it now but Apollo got the zoomies and he just could not stop himself and he took out this tiny little lady. Just bowled her over like she was nothing. Luckily no one was hurt (much) and she laughed about it. I was so scared that the lady was going to sue us for damages though! Apollo took her down HARD, but then licked her in the face. I think that's what saved us! She couldn't resist his kisses!
Have 3 great danes zooming an once. Occasionally all i can say is weeeee as i fly then land with a thud. Learned never to get down to their face level. Tackle time. My largest will run up steps, fly from bedroom floor to bed and spin in tight circles, then take off running again. As painful as it can be (to me) i love watching them and being right out with them. If only i were youger.
My Dane loves to zoom. She was running at the dog park once and biffed it. She landed on her chest with enough momentum that she came up with a grass stain. She popped right back up and kept zooming.
Yes,love the term Zoomies. My dane is bout 5 years old. Also love to zoom in late afternoon.Very active at that time period.Mornings and rest of day patato coach and those eyes, which opens and closes like a crocodiles,is only observing movement or any nice meaty treats. At round 4pm to 6pm the crock becomes a cheeta.
@@GreatDaneCare Exactly. My Bichon likes to run from one end of the house to the other and back. Jumping on couches, chairs, me. Repeatedly. She is 6 now and still does it.
My 11 week old pup gets the zoomies like 3 times a day in the yard lol it's so beautiful I dont mind because he falls asleep for about an hour or so after, and I walk him at least a half mile a day if not more and let him swim in the creek behind the house every other day
I had a Bassett Hound that got the zoomies at the dog park. She was smaller than average but still managed to take a poor man down when she accidentally ran into the back of his knee. So when I see my great Dane get the zoomies, I stay to the side of my livingroom or make sure something is between us when we're outside.
When I was growing up we had a Dane and I remember her getting the zoomies quite often. One time she got the zoomies in the house and was going laps in the living room from couch to couch, tripped and her shoulder went through the wall, there was a nice Dane size hole
We too have a 11wk old great Daniff puppy that gets the zoomies 3 plus times. So far the most interesting is when she transferred from carpet to linoleum and collided with her water dish and when all over the kitchen. Thanks for the info.
@@GreatDaneCare June 13th! Any tips for what I should have on hand for the 3 hour car ride home?! :D PS: Thanks so much for all your videos, they're so helpful and you're super insightful!
When my Dane and Grayhound get the zoomies, stay out of my yard....lol....I found out the hard way about a month a go. My Grayhound hit me below the knees and my Dane hit me at my hips.....I'm 6 foot 6. Hahaha. Good times with an ice pack.
Indoor zoomies are all fun and games until you have to pull the couch out of the wall, and see a 2 foot wide hole. She loves her zoomies, and walls can be repaired.
I didn't know there were other people who called it zoomies! I assumed my mom made it up haha. My dane (also named Gus!) definitely gets the zoomies, sometimes randomly, sometimes when he is excited to see us, and sometimes we run around the house together. It makes for some huge laughs
Thanks! We don’t use too many treats for training these days, but here’s the list we pick from when we do - greatdanecare.com/best-treats-for-great-danes/
My 18mo pup had a Zoomie realated accident last week. He zagged when he should of zigged, and the sudden change in direction caused my 60kg puppy to get a spiral fracture in his paw. Vets have reccomended 4 weeks rest, no walks no zoomies. To prevent the zoomies, he has been prescribed sedatives to be given with his evening meal (he usually zooms for about 30mins at 2hrs after dinner) I have to say that without his zoomies, he is a bit miserable in the evening.
My Great Dane (that looks just like Gus by the way) had a bad case of the zoomies last night. My husband didn’t know that zoomies were a real thing. He thought I just made that word up.
When I was a kid my Grandparents had a Jack Russell, Ben, he was slightly insane/unstable at the best of times but every time he had a bath he got the zooms after it, I don't know how he never knocked himself out crashing into something when he got like that.
I read about the precaution of waiting an hour before or after meal time. Does that also apply with giving them water AFTER the Zoomies occur? Your thoughts?
One of my Danes liked to play chicken with people when she had the zoomies. Unfortunately she didn’t have a lot of agility. She knocked down a few people that way. We learned that your best bet was to stay perfectly still and hope for the best. 😮
I'm so excited! If I get a 4.0 grade level, my mom said she would get me a kitten! I'm pretty confident in myself, but please, wish me luck, and if I do get that kitten, can I have some name suggestions? Preferably female.!!
I got one 2 weeks ago and she is adorable. The only problem is that she always cries if she’s in the crate and the door is closed. Even if i’m sitting next to the crate. Does anyone know what I can do?
Spend time getting her used to the crate so it becomes place she likes. Pet her and give her belly rubs while she’s in it or even treats. Start all of this with the door open until she gets calmer, then start practicing with the door shut

At our local parks where Kuda has become known - as soon as she looks ready to zoom, voices call out “back up - bend your knees” 🐾🤣
omg my aunt's dane does zoomies in her little apartment it is so funny. lol

Definitely lucky! Then again, it is the dog park, so humans beware haha
So true!
Gus is such a beautiful and well behaved dog! I aspire to get my Freya to behave so well!
She’ll get there! Even Gus was a little monster at times during her puppy days
Us Danes LOVE our zoomies! LOOK OUT when we get them! 😁💜
Zach, our sweet baby girl was just delivered from Tennessee. She looks like a mini-Gus!!! So sweet. She’s already doing her zoomies 💗💞💗
That’s awesome, congrats!

Mine does the run from kitchen to bedroom, on the bed and back lol she moves the bed sometimes 🤣

Loved the Zoomies! Off-limits for her to do now due to a heart condition, but I do remember those dangerous indoor zoomie attacks!
Even worse with hardwood floors 😂

Would have liked to see more pics of Gus doing her Zoomies. The whole video could have been a voice-over of Gus playing.
You’re not the first to ask that haha What if I just do a montage of Gus playing for a fun video one week?

Why did you stop posting on this channel? Is gus ok?
Is it normal for a Great Dane to keep on yawning, even though he sleeps a lot , because my Great Dane is a puppy but he keeps on yawning
Definitely, they’re worn out from all the playtime and how much they’re growing!

What a shame. Thought your dog would how some zoomies. Disappointed.
