China Built A Fake London! What's Inside? 🇨🇳🇬🇧 (

- If you travel into the suburbs of Hangzhou, you'll be greeted by a curious sight: a full-length replica of the Eiffel Tower, along with a knockoff Champs-Élysées from Paris to go along with it. There's nowhere else in the world that you could've found someone with enough money and a lack of common sense to build such a thing. Only in China, and I'm grateful for their strange decision.
In fact, there's not just a fake Eiffel Tower, there's also a fake England, Germany, and apparently even Wyoming. These unique property developments were all over the country, and I thought I'd go and check them out, starting with a fake London on the outskirts of Shanghai.

"They're very small apartments actually" I see the developers went into some effort to replicate actual Parisian living conditions ! Kudos to them !
lol
LOL!
In fact, the living conditions in Paris have become very poor now. Garbage and thieves are everywhere
French went to other lands during colony time but doesn't want others migrate to France now ??
They failed to replicate all the crime.
😂 you gonna need proper phenotype face to act out the crimes.
Was looking forward to see replica of tent city
Well, they would have to bring romanian "actors" for that
also all the graffiti
@@hanhantan6619 They won't allow the poverty of China to be shown either, go figure. Crazy right?
Fact is there are many Eiffel tower replicas around the world, not just in China - 2. There are over 16 in USA alone - Nevada, Ohio, N Carolina, Florida, Wisconsin, Georgia and even 2 in Texas !
And also in Prague 😂
@@DaveListerr The one in Prague is not an actual replica as it was never meant to be. it was just inspired by the Eiffel tower but the shape is different.
The same with Big Ben.
One of those replicas is the Tokyo Tower seen in innumerable manga and anime.
Not many replicas of Champs-Elysees :)
Tommy’s ego being massaged thoroughly throughout this! 😂 “oh your Chinese is so good!” “Oh you’re so handsome!”.. Tommy “oh stop!.. no actually don’t stop” 😇
Somehow, I think occasionally the "oh stop, no don't stop" isn't coming from Tommy's lips. 😀
pretty cool though, His languages are awesome
Trust me if you've lived in China long enough as a foreigner who speaks even a little bit of Mandarin to the locals, you wouldn't feel so...
It doesn't mean stop , it is Shanghai local language, means, my Chinese is soso
As a Chinese, I confirm his Chinese is very good, also he's got good knowledge of Chinese history and culture esp when he chooses West lake to introduce Hanzhou city and tells the legendary romantic love story that a snake married a man and later gave a birth of a child, A monk found out and believed this marriage broke the rule that human can not get married with this snake spirit, then used a temple tower to imprison the snake, and the husband and their child was deported, a few years later, The child grew up and learned Gongfu, and went to the tower to challenge the monk. the monk called river flood to destory the snake, but failed, finally the child defeated the monk and rescued his mother snake, and the whole family reunited again.
Fascinating. As a Brit. at first glance I would almost have been fooled by that London area.
Great compliments from a real Brit. I also thought it was pretty impressive.

@@bill_lumberghnot enough chavs, wannabe gangsters, rubbish and homeless.
I agree. I am Chinese but I lived in the UK for about ten years.
1:46 -1:52 it just look like an area around the high street of a random English town. At first glance of course.

I went to Hallstatt, Austria earlier this year and learned that they're suffering from overtourism because of the Hallstatt replica in China. People visit the fake Hallstatt and then decide they want to travel to Europe to see the real thing. They had to limit the number of tour buses allowed in on any given day because overtourism was becoming such a problem (lucky for me I picked a pretty quiet day to go and was able to enjoy the town without fighting crowds)
so this is wrong? or what if the fake hallstatt reduce the number of tourists going to the real hallstatt? that is wrong too?
Hallstatt is a very small austrian town that for some reason was replicated. It got famous because of the Chinese replica@@magrittedeau
thats crazy never knew that was even a thing that happened
Overtourism from china, seem easy fix.
In Hallstatt they have over 1700 visitors per inhabitant per year. In Venice i think they have around 30 or something. It's not just China though, it's also Korea, Japan, Arabic countries and a bit from everywhere. It will be restricted in the future, they are planning something just at the moment.
It is so enjoyable to see a foreigner speak the local language. And the locals are impressed. Great for international goodwill.
It’s amazing how fluent you are in Chinese. The Chinese people you met were very welcoming and friendly. I like your laidback approach when making vlogs. The replica Eiffel Tower looks remarkably accurate and huge in size. I hear there’s also another replica of a famous landmark called tower bridge in Suzhou.
Some of the best content I feel on YT hands down. Thanks for traveling for those of us that can’t.
Truth giving us history we never knew on each country he visits appreciated, Tommy s vloggs are top notch

@@moreless2690 why can’t I what? And those who can’t are those not financially stable enough or maybe those with health issues.
Cool tour around these replica towns😄
Though small correction at 20:53 is that the metro pole says no digging without permission as the metro tunnel is underneath.
You think China is "habituating" select citizens to colonize the U.S.?
I lived in China from 2005-2008. I love watching your videos. A lot of
China has changed since I lived there and sometimes with current events I don’t recognize the China that I knew. The experience with that shop owner at 26:00 that they just randomly invited you for tea and watermelon is exactly how I remember China. Yes it was a difficult country but in the end the people were so incredibly welcoming and warm. I miss it.
Damn those England town replicas look better, better maintained and cheaper than like 90% of the houses in England 😂
How much are those British houses pse. X
Until they crumble due to being tofu constructions 😂
They are meaningless, outside of their original cultural and environmental context
Wow, I thought those prices were outrageous compared to the USA or even most of China. Is housing really that expensive in the UK?
@@chamade166 cope lol
The Chinese seem very friendly people.
The convo with the sudoku man was hilarious. Man has a natural affinity for casual comedy.
Thanks Tommy glad to see you still uploading after a long break between countries, was worried you stopped, glad you didn't
The woman in that shop were so nice. I've recently started exploring China, through CZcams and all the travel Channels with vloggers. It's such a beautiful country. Some day I really want to go there

During Song Dynasty… coz of the emperor fled to Hangzhou from Northern foreigner invaded… he then temporarily settled in Hangzhou…. later he changed the name of this city as Linan (meaning Temporary safety settled down) ; after the war was ended…. After he returned to the capital palace…. Then Hangzhou was name again…. there was still a town by the name of Linan, just beside Hangzhou… now become suburbs of Hangzhou.

This is a very interesting and entertaining travel report. Fantastic how you interact with the locals. Totally crazy to recreate the Eiffel Tower. Thank you for that!
It's not that crazy considering how many there are in the US
Always interesting, always fascinating. People in foreign lands are genuinely interested, but it’s important to be able to speak their language. Love your vlogs Tommy. I share your channel every chance I get.
Another great video! Thanks for always including the history of these locations.
Informative as always. Super interesting, I learn so much from your vlogs. Thank you!
thank you, i just love when people are friendly and invite you for tea =)
There are CZcams channels and then there is Sabbatical. Keep grinding bro, you are the true definition of eloquence, intellect and linguistic sophistication.
Oh Tommy, when you went over those guard rails it reminded me that you are a New Yorker. lol.
I really like the attitude of the lady in black. She could pass for my aunt. Lovely and jovial human being.
Thank you, sir.
Good to see you posting new vlogs, thanks keep them coming.
“Less people on the streets, things have slowed down”…… next minute crowed train station, the train is full of people 😂
I like how you show us around, and you tell us some history about these places, definitely appreciate that.
Tommy from one New York world traveler to another love your videos and enthusiasm for your adventures. Keep on wandering, I’ll keep watching.
Sabbatical was asked a few times by older women if he was married. It's quite common that the older generation in China cares about if a person around 30 is married and suggests him/her to marry and have children, but I didn't expect them to ask an American tourist this question😂. They generally think a person should get married and start a family by around 30. The younger generation generally cares little about if a person is married or not. There are a lot difference between older and younger generations.
Probably trying to set him a date with a single relative or neighbour.
Usually if a man isn’t married by a certain age probably means they ain’t interested in women 😳
Usually this is a way of greeting strangers in China, similar to "have you eaten?"
正确的。
It's tradition, If it was in your own country you would also put your own traditional values first
I am really enjoying your videos! Thanks for showing us all parts of China, a place I’ve never been to, but now have more appreciation for.
Thank you for being kind to the people you meet. I lived in Asia for 5 years as a kid and my parents were always very kind and respectful and friendly to everyone wherever we went and so we naturally were too. Many times people were surprised that we were (U.S.) American kids since some Americans are so loud and rude. Simple Kindness and respectfulness potentially save lives since they dislodge some of the stereotypes that divide people and make wars more likely. Thank You!
Mainlanders are literally the worst in terms of rudeness, they definitely can compete with Americans for that title.
WOW! That was great! Thanks for all your detailed efforts, as usual!
I visited there in 2019...there is also a National Park there. I love Hangzhou. The "Eiffel Tower" was underwhelming but it was a nice experience. I'll be returning as my friend lives in Hangzhou and I promised her a visit. By the way I live in Changzhou after living 4 years in Shanghai.
Love your style! Nice to meet local people. Thanks, Morris.
Bro. Just found your channel. Refreshing not being talked to death or talked to like a child. Cocos. Love it
Your friend said exactly what I said a few weeks ago. Theres definitely less people around now than in 2019. My town was always busy, roads all blockedwith cars, but since 2020 the roads are a lot emptier and less people around. Im in the Uk.
The covid pandemic really changed a lot of things around the world. People learned to stay home, work from home. In the west some commercial buildings started being empty. There were debate and complain by workers about why people cannot work from home, some jobs doesn't need to be working on site five days a week.
Worldwide, the tourist business has still not resumed fully yet. Even local people are spending time at home more than before the pandemic.

The replica towns will be a puzzle to future civilization archeologists.
They're so poorly made, they won't be around long.
I love Hangzhou. I dont remember whether there was a high speed train from shanghai in my time. I always used to fly down. Last time I was there was shortly after they finished the Hongqiao airport. They rebuilt that airport - from being like a giant stalinist public toilet to brand new what it is today - in about 10 months.
I once had about 40 factory workers line up for a photo with me next to the lake one night. My mandarin was really bad back then so I have no idea why.
ps technically, Hangzhou was the capital of the southern song.
@anglohan5428 Agree with all that. But your comment is going to make zip difference.
Saw the West Lake on a Spring once, so definitely a glorious place.
Awesome video man, thanks for sharing
So just found your channel and I must say I'm so impressed that you can speak so many languages as I've recently went back and watched a good bit of your videos. was wondering how you studied this and if you had tips to become multi-lingual such as yourself.
Your style's so unique, very laid back, very approachable despite..the beard (just kidding). Great work bro, keep going
Your video is amazing! Not too much hate, also not too much praise. Just the pure reality, the good and the bad mixed together. There are always things you like and things you dont' like, that's the real world should look like.
Wondered what was going on with those replica towns. Thanks so much for the vid.
Amazing work and videos you produce ! Your super knowledgeable , refined and enjoy your insights on your explorations ! Keep up the good work my friend!
For anyone confused by the flickering lights: Cameras made in America/lighting in America operates at a standard of 60Hz (this can be changed in-camera, of course), but China uses a 220V 50Hz system. As a result, the strobing of the lights at 50Hz causes aliasing due to the desync with his cameras 60Hz frequency (NTSC). It can be fixed by switching to the proper frequency for the lighting environment you find yourself in (In this case, Tommy should switch to PAL 50Hz).
Good to know!!! I’ll try to remember it when I film. Do you know what the rate is in Japan?
@@UntangledKnots I believe they use both haha. 50Hz in East Japan and 60Hz in the West - feel free to double check that. You can always check by just pointing your camera toward a light and looking through the monitor panel (or take a test clip if you don't have a way to monitor footage real-time)
if you can control the shutter speed on your camera, it shouldn't be a problem.
But then it wouldn’t post as ntsc no? Or just changes how it processes light?
This is fascinating thanks for sharing
