- We built a micro car camper out of our 2020 Kia Soul! After 6 years as full time RVers we kept feeling like we were being held back by our large class A motorhome, so we turned our current car into a micro camper. Now our RV will be our home base and our car will be our home away from home. We plan to do a lot of stealth camping in cities, as well as a ton a camping out in nature. The car has everything we need for extended trips or even to live in full time. We have a 12v fridge, a solar generator, a battery powered air conditioner, a large table, a full kitchen set up, a bed, a couch, an awning, a bathroom with toilet and shower. It has worked well for us.
I'd definitely use the pure iron skillet. The cooking metal contraption seems some alloy. you never know what's in it, unless it's food grade.

This is truly one of the BEST "overland" builds on any car I have seen. So unique in choice of the car, but absolutely functional. I am thoroughly impressed and inspired. I am currently building an Xterra now, and part of the way into my build I am wondering if I should have gone with a bigger vehicle. Now, after seeing what you have done, sheesh, I have more than enough space in my Xterra. Thank you for the video and the great ideas! Beautiful car and great engineering!
The xterra is a great vehicle. We chose a Kia lol because we flat toe it behind a RV and couldn’t afford a jeep but we love it and actually take it all over the back countywith no problem. I just rebuilt it check out one of my newest videos. Thanks for watching.

Y’all should come to Mayberry area….. Mount Airy Nc….. got all kinds of waterfalls around & if ya ride motor scooter then The Back of The Dragon is just an hour n half away….. Appalachian Foothills & Mountains are GORGEOUS…… got River Gorge Jumps on Bridge Day ….. the changing of the leaves in the fall is beyond gorgeous…. Just saying✌🏼🖖🏼🤙🏼
Really dope build I would highly suggest ceramic or partial ceramic window tint on the fronts, you'll see how much it helps with glare and heat no less privacy

Let me just say that 2x4 for a tv or tablet mount is so genius you literally might have just saved my headliner from getting a few holes.
Lol I was going to drill it to the headboard too but wanted to try this first and am happy that it is working.
Good video and pretty cool build!! I have a minivan with a cargo net suspended between my interior ceiling handles currently, but definitely thinking of using that crossbeam tablet holder idea and giving it a twist!! I think I'll stick around awhile and follow your adventures...

Thanks! I love the idea of a rooftop tent too, but I like that with making the sleeping space inside we have a little more control over the temperature inside. We seem to always end up being in really hot humid places. Lol.

Thank you. The cushions you can get from a fabric store or I have seen them at Home Depot before any high density foam will work

Love this so much! My mom and I have a kia soul. Hers is a 21 and mine is a 16. Love this idea and love what you have done! I was just wondering if yall have an opinion on the suv tents vs the build that you have? Also the adaption for the over the top rack build is awesome!
Thank you for watching we have completely rebuilt the setup I will be posting a video soon also I would not recommend the suv tents they seem to fall apart instead I would go with an ARB awning and tent room they are really good quality and spacious.
Cool set up on the SOUL
have mine set up with a roof rack similar to yours only I have 2
LED light bars on it,1 25" on front &
1 -12" on rear with a 3 point spare tire tie down strap .sure is nice having a spare tire/rim when you get a flat tire! No need to wait 2 plus hours for AAA 💪😅
Ya that sounds cool I thought about getting a spare tire. And also some light bars and putting the kc lights on the bumper. I just rebuilt the whole thing. New videos of it are out but I would go in to more details soon.
@@Nomadity on the grill of mine I toggle bolted a 16" piece of 2"x2" aluminum angle then mounted a
20" NILIGHT LED LIGHT BAR to it . Pretty easy and simple setup too

One thing I don’t understand is why cops bother people that are sleeping in their vehicles they’re not doing anything wrong. They are peaceful and cops should worry more about violence then about people relaxing in their vehicle that’s just my opinion. Enjoy your life be safe🙏

Way better gas mileage for our inflated gas prices. We are smart. I just wish we could put 4x4 all terrain tires on the Soul but no under carriage rebuild not interested, and fasten a full size spare tire on the rear of the car. Not loving the tire inflation kit idea very much at all. ❤️😀
My KIA Sedona minivan and it was the shortest model, I put a full size lazy boy in the back and slept on it every night. That was sweet.

It’s a zero breeze and runs off battery’s it works great I’m really happy with it.
Use the velcro on your awning if you dont want it to sag and rip in wind and rain. Nice set up overall however.

So that is a pics of walnut wood we cut perfectly to fit in the roof handles the mount is a tablet mount we found on Amazon and then added some lighting and made a little entertainment area lol it’s small but cozy

Can you help me with how you made your table that comes out from your trunk. I have a 2020 Kia soul
I eventually made a slide out the table in this video did not not work very well but I just used a bunch of copper fittings from Home Depot pick the size you want them get the threaded pieces that fit on the ends and screw one to the wood and one to the trunk. You want it to sit on the plastics for it to work.

Is this Kia Soul a X-Line with 18" wheels? How far off road do u usually go with KIA Soul?
This is not the x line but it has enough clearance to go up some decent things but definitely not a off road vehicle.

Thank you. I'll find a link to the rails we used below if they're still available. We used the inexpensive ones on Amazon which are working fine but they really aren't the best quality. I think we might do a video about the zero breeze and how it can be used as a heater as well.

Nice setup. I'm curious tho how tall you two are. I believe that the Kia Soul is like my Fiat Lounge and only has a 5' sleep space from the back of the front seats to the trunk door (4' from the folded back seat, and maybe 5'4" with the front seat a bit forward). Stay safe!

I just traded my dodge minivan for a 2020 Kia Soul mainly for economy. I had a nice bed platform in the van and so this video gives me hope for the Soul. When all set up, how long is your bed from front seats to hatchback?
Trust me you can do a lot with the Kia lol I’m just under 6 foot and I can barely stretch out but it’s enough than I’m comfortable.
How come we didn't get to see the bed set up? Especially with you both laying down on the bed for a little perspective of how much room there is. Would like to know how rall you both are also. Other than that good video.
It was part of that time lapse in the very beginning at 2:40 but we should have set it back up to actually show it and talk on that. I am 5'4" and Jay is 5'10" he could almost lay flat but not quite, but we have completly changed the setup since then and now he can lay completely flat in there after altering the driver's seat to slide further up.

Aaaarrrrggggghhhhh rear seats! I haven’t been able to find how to take them out of my 2020 EX. Can you help?
There is bolts in the back we’re the 2 seats meet. The last one you have to put the seat down for then you lift it Then they should pop out. I will look at mine again and see if I see anything els.
@@Nomadity thanks. My brother looked at it and said there was some type of rod through the back of the seats holding them in place and he couldn’t figure out how to move it. We found the bolts between the 60/40, but ten the rod stumped him. I’m totally worthless spatially.

I don’t understand how you removed the rear seat. I’ve got a 2020 and haven’t been able to figure out how to get that seat out. Can you help in slo-mo?
There is a bolt in the front and a few in the back. If you flip the seats down and look at it from the back you will see a black metal pice that is right in between the seats take the bolt out and you will be able to flip it up and remove the seat I thinks it’s a 10mm
As a soul owner I wonder how did you mount this whole installation on the roof? As I noticed there was no regular mounts for such equipment. Did you drill holes in the roof to mount it?
There is 4 mounting point on the roof of the Kia for the cross bars and then I mounted the rack to the bars.
Love the build!! Going to try to copy your set up for the base flooring. One question if you don’t mind me asking. The 2 carpeted pieces that are all the way up front right behind the front seats, are they supported in place with the refrigerator and your portable battery system or do they have another support I missed?
Thank you! The fridge supports the one side while it's in but we put supports on both sides just in case we didn't have the fridge at some point. They are slide out drop leaf supports we got online. I'll put the link below. :)

Oil is good I don’t have to add any I just get it changed every 5k

Originally we bought a foam mattress topper and cut it down to size but it was a bit too soft, so we went to an upholstery shop and got high density foam cut to size.
What rack is this??
