    In this particular session the young players worked on technical passing with a, vitally important to player development, focus on the general movement required before and after each the pass. "Details matter when teaching!"

    that's the way to do it! People don't understand what a great coach is all about. The hardest ones are the ones you always remember because the move your soccer skills to another level! good job coach and kids!

    I like the way this coach emphasized 'quality' so much. It is so easy to allow kids to just go through the motions. NO NO NO!
    We come to practice to understand (he has loud and clear instruction) to polish and improve. This coach understands the importance of polish. We don't just get our kids to do the drill(s), we get them TO DO THEM WELL. The difference in a game between a pass that is a yard or two off target, or is bounced in instead of nice and flat - the difference is losing possession versus retaining possession. I liked this.

    @newlyable Před 5 lety +15

    I just see positive reinforcement with clear instruction. His volume seemed more about being heard by everyone. We don't give our kids enough credit. I doubt their parent(s) sent them there for a cumbaya circle. Hard work means results. And I didn't see wild passes and balls flying everywhere or him having to repeat instructions 10 times.
    They aren't 5. There are kids not much older than these on ESPN right now playing in the Little League world series.

      Omg. I was just watching How I met your mother's , Murtaugh list episode. And it talks about this. They should be teaching kids seriously to get them to serious levels of play. This drill improved me a lot , especially getting the stamina and the culture of pass+movement circulation

    Great inflection coach. Kids do a lot better in gaining an understanding when key words or phrases are emphasized with the tone of your voice. It also helps when the passion pours out onto the pitch.

    It’s easy working with 6 kids on a nice warm sunny day.

      What does your comment have to do with anything? The guy is sharing a drill he does and it will help other coaches plan and get ideas for their practice. What's he supposed to do film it in Gale force winds and sideways rain for you to be impressed?

    Not great coaching, to much stopping. Start by showing clearly how you wish the pass and control to be undertaken. Let the drill run a few times to see how its going, if you wish to change it, stop the session, within 30 seconds get your point across then go again. Positive encouragement at this age group is very important and a fun aspect aids learning.

      I agree but also it is hard to show them the final product without going through the recipe. Every group is different. My U8 team this season has a real natural grasp on the pace and shot selection. Just trying to get them to read the field and the opportunities presented is the battle right now

      Kids are more resilient than a lot of people think. As long as this guy wasn't being abusive or berating them, they'll be fine and will be better players (and mentally tougher) for it. A lot of coaches and parents in youth sports do cross the line, but I don't think this guy's one of them. I took note of the positive reinforcement and encouragement he gave them too. Plenty of "goods" and "attaboys". Just because he's loud and speaks with authority, doesn't mean he's aggressive. I'd call it assertive. I'll bet his team wasn't winless the way my kid's team is right now.

      Kevin Chamberlain yeah but do you know the personalities of the children? Some children needs discipline and a strong voice. Again, he’s not bringing them down he’s being constructive he’s not babying them as he trusts they can take it.
