- Well, today we finally get the Gerber Prodigy out in the backyard on the stump and beat on it a bit. I have to say that I'm very impressed with this knife. After re-profiling the edge to 20 degrees the performance of this knife greatly improved. I highly recommend that you pick one up if you can still find them.
This is pretty much my everyday carry, this knife is STOUT... Definitely worth every penny
It definitely out performs it’s price that’s for sure. Thanks for watching
Your Mods Made A Big Difference, Thanks For This David ! ATB T God Bless
I was surprised at just how much the re-profile changed it’s performance. Same to you sir and thanks for watching
Nice looking review on the Gerber Prodigy.
Thank you so much and thanks for watching
Great review- got one myself ,great knife. Like your mods too. Only thing I dont care much for is the glass breaker point on the back of handle could be quite literally a pain in the ass, may smooth it down. Hell, the steels' so strong anyway if I had to break glass I'd just use the damn blade in an emergency. Watch JoeX on CZcams he's got a great review on the prodigy as well.
Cheers !
Thanks, I appreciate it! I agree, the glass breaker is not necessary. I’ve been thinking about grinding it down and rounding it off as well. Thanks for watching
I have been carrying this for 4 years, every day, without fail. I got it at Walmart randomly seeing the last one my local store had in stock before the great discontinue hit.
It's definitely a sweet knife for the deal. I recommend sheath modifications for EDC. I also rounded over the pommel, and filled the top guard down to flat. I found this made the knife very good for less than tactical use.
If anyone like this knife, and cannot find it, I have a recommendation.
The Terava Jaakaripuuko 110. It's basically like if this prodigy and the Mora Garberg had a baby.
I had one of the LMF II and loved that knife except for the serrations. When I found this one I knew it would be a good knife. It has quite possibly the most comfortable handle I’ve ever used. I made some major changes to the sheath as well. I’m like you, I recommend this knife if you can find one. Thanks for watching
I have some extras of these knives if anyone wants to buy some they're the plain edged Walmart versions
Good looking knife and seems to be very functional as well!
I’m very impressed with it! I have to say that as far as comfort it’s right up there with my Lt. Wright Bushcrafter. Definitely glad I picked it up. Thanks for watching
Good video. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
Thank you ma’am and thanks for watching
New Subscriber saw James open your box, really like your channel take care, nice looking Gerber

Thanks brother! You’re welcome, same to you and thanks for watching
Looks like a great knife might have to check it out
I’m very impressed with it. Definitely one to add to your collection if you find one. Thanks for watching
Blade HQ has it on sale for $ 34.99 as of August 2023... Just ordered one tonight
That’s cheaper than Wally World! Thanks for watching
I just ordered it as well. Fantastic deal!
@@matthewhebbert9712 hope you enjoy it. It’s a great knife!
I ordered one yesterday (non-serrated version) to use as a truck knife and may order another for my son-in-law…hopefully it works out as well as his…maybe I’ll have to pick up a worksharp to do the reprofiling bit…
Yeah I know what you mean ... The edge kind of sucks out of the box
Great knife. My edc
It’s really hard to beat this knife for the money! I’ve beat the crap out of it and it just keeps going! Thanks for watching
A good friend of mine micky wilson did a 21 day challange with this blade middle of winter .did everything with it to be honest if o didnt have my customs this blade would never leave my side
I would agree with you. If it wasn’t for the other blades this could very easily turn into a go to blade. Thanks for watching sir
🔥👍
Thank you and thanks for watching
do you think this could be someone's only blade and they'd be just fine? love mine
Yes I do. I feel that the ruggedness is there with this blade and could handle anything thrown at it. Maybe add in a Swiss Army knife and there shouldn’t be any task that couldn’t be handled when it comes to cutting tasks that would be handled by a knife. Thanks for watching
Sweet
Thanks for watching brother
@@CentralKyBushcraft it’s my pleasure brother! Stay safe out there!
Sad they discontinued it
I agree. It’s a heck of a blade for the money. Thanks for watching
Is the Gerber prodigy non-serrated version discontinued?
From what I’ve found they are. What is left out there is it. Thanks for watching
@@CentralKyBushcraft thanks for the reply, that sucks. It's one of the best bang-for-the-buck all around survival type knives I think out there. Especially, with inflation. At Walmart the non-serrated version Gerber prodigy was for sale at $50 around Christmas time but now it's 62 ish. I need to get on top of that and buy another before they sell out.
@@alexanderheling2057 I gave a little over $60 for mine. I agree, for the money it’s hard to beat.
I’m curious as to how you got it sharpened all the way to the plunge line like that did you use that worksharp you have? Saw your video the other day and was gonna do it to mine but seemed difficult with regular stones
Yes, I used the Worksharp. It did take a while using the 320 grit stone but it did it. Definitely going to have to hit The Gear Shak up for a upgrade kit. Just keep the stone’s clean and take your time. Good luck and thanks for watching
