Here is a link to one of their articles about the angel with a sword. He did say those things. Whether or not he actually saw this angel and was carrying out gods commands, as I’m sure you will believe, or he made it up so he could marry young women who where already married in order to use them as a sexual resource, as I believe, is the only real question.

The anti Mormon authors cleverly paint a picture of Joseph Smith as a scoundrel as they ignore written history of his true nature. They convince many people of falsehoods. But, honest truth seekers somehow understand that searching several sources or original sources gives one much more information than a lone squealing voice of a tainted story or two.

Amazing how Mormon theology changes with the wind. When US. Congress refused to allow Utah statehood, due to polygamy & pedophilia .God came to the Mormon church and told them to give up multiple wives & sex with children... In1978, Jessie Jackson led a planned Salt Lake City protest of Blacks non admission to the priesthood & the temple. 100,000 Black men were organizing a protest in Utah of racist Mormon church teachings; Then, that same year, God then came to the Mormon church and told them black people were now okay. For 180 years, Mormon church taught hateful things towards Gays. Now in 2023, after bad press, God has told the Mormon church to back off the condemnation of Gays...Interesting timing of God's revelations & heat the Mormon Church was feeling.

“Sex with children” um….unfounded lie. If I’m to guess where your erroneous comment is coming from, then I’m assuming you are referring to 14 year old brides. Illinois state law in the 1820s thru smiths life established the minimal marriage age for women at 14, without requiring parental consent. You were a minor until your 14th birthday. There also is zero evidence the marriages were consummated. Times change.
Correlation doesn’t equal causation though. No evidence exists of God sanctioning gay marriage; in fact, evidence shows he destroyed societies at the peak of wickedness, which includes gay marriage (Canaanites, Noah’s society)

Jason Lewis Yes, I’ve read and studied the historical fiction you referenced. Why is it historical fiction? Because non-fiction would require actually checking facts. What both authors did was, instead of checking facts between firsthand accounts and hearsay, and, then of course, qualifying anything as hearsay as actually, wait for it, hearsay. Instead, they just went with the hearsay accounts because it made for more interesting reading and better book sales.
Brodie, at least, was a tiny bit more honest about her work and agreed that it was psychobiography. She was also a fan of T.H. White’s psychohistory of the mythical King Arthur, published in 1938 (prior to her work) and much later compiled into what became known as Once and Future King.
Your argument about church “history” has a few problems because of all this.
But the biggest problem is that it is all irrelevant. It is a fallacy to claim that only a perfect man can create a great work.
So, yes we can argue about the validity/historicity of the works that you mentioned. Since much of what the Mormon Conspiracy Theorists put out is based on pretty shaky grounds, much of it can be dismissed as conjecture with no proof.
At the end of the day though, Joseph Smith’s reputation (and the works you mention are essentially treatments of his reputation in some circles rather than what we would normally call history) has no relevance in discussing the validity of the Book of Mormon or Book of Abraham, and so on.

There are many good things of the Church and while it can be difficult to come to understand and believe in things of the history and doctrines of the Church, it's important to be honest with the Spirit to follow what it prompts you to do.
