  • The Nigerian music industry has evolved over the years from the traditional music that is prevalent in each ethnic domain of the country to the dominant contemporary highlife music of the '60s where the major players include Rex Jim Lawson, Celestine Ukwu, Sir Osita Osadebe, Sir Victor Uwaifo, and Bobby Benson among others, and other innovations from Fela Kuti who created Afrobeat. Getting to the 70s where Afrofunk was the dominant genre through the Pop and era Reggae era of the 80s. The innovativeness of the Nigerian youth has propelled the creation of a new genre called Afrobeats after a brief stopover at Afro Hip Hop in the Early 2000s.
Afrobeats has given the country a unique musical identity that has seen it become a globally recognised and influential music form. Some of the names that have placed the music form on the global map include Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Asake, Omah Lay, Olamide, Rema, Tems, Ayrra Starr, Tiwa Savage and a lot of others.
