    Good video. Yes this tool really is a necessity. One point though: you didn't have to save and then reload after the first round of the "fix" feature though. Just go directly to the arrow buttons and it will take you to the remaining larger "unfixed" islands.

    This video is fantastic! Just took my printer out of the box 2 days ago. The one thing I knew would give me fits are the islands. I have the Creality LD-002R so it took a little bit of figuring out but I got it to work. I'd much rather have too many supports than have a print fail. Perfect for a noob. 👍🏼❤️

  • @rastan49
    @rastan49 Před 4 lety

    For Creality LD-002r, Elegoo Mars Pro and I believe Epax X1 users.
    My work around for the CBT file format is to create my Supports under the correct profile for your printer. Save as you go.
    Once completed, Swap to the default profile.
    Select Setting's on the right and swap to the Default profile (I have this as a exported file as well).
    Slice the model and this now allows me to save in CBDDLP format.
    Open Validator and just run the fix.
    Once Fix has been ran once,
    In Chitubox, Open Settings and select the correct Printer profile.
    Can import profile again if you like in case anything has changed.
    Do the steps outlined in the Vid, Slice and re-save it in CBT file format.
    As for why Validator doesn't read CBT files as of yet I believe it's due to it being a newer file format, so hasn't been reversed engineered or been offered yet.
    Hope they fix it.
    edit: Just fixed up the steps.

  • @xdkarmatv
    @xdkarmatv Před 4 lety +12

    (1) On your first load filename.cbddlp file to Photon File Validator (PFV) have 91 islands; current file on Chitubox have 91 islands - verified using PFV. (2) 2nd load of filename-1.cbddlp to PFV have 56 islands; current file on Chitubox is STILL 91 islands since you didn't touch it. Then you went back to Chitubox @9:20 and started to fix all 56 islands one slice at a time. If you only fixed 56 islands in Chitubox, whatever happened to the 35 islands that you 'fixed' inside PFV, but not in Chitubox? Are those islands not important?

    Hello,
    Upon watching if I understood it correctly, the steps are
    1. Run auto support on "Chitubox"
    2. slice it and save it as *.cbddlp
    3. open the *.cbddlp on "Photon File Validator"
    4. Run auto fix in "Photon File Validator"
    5. Save it again as *-1.cbddlp
    6. Open the file *-1.cbbdlp in "Photon File Validator"
    7. Run auto fix in "Photon File Validator"
    8. Manually fix the issue in "Chitubox" while navigating in "Photon File Validator"
    My question is do I need to open the "*-1.cbddlp" file on "Chitubox" between step 6 & 7?
    Thank you in advance.

    • @3DPrintFarm
      @3DPrintFarm  Před 4 lety

      I have changed my workflow a bit to make it a bit easier. In a nutshell, you are just going to use the Validator to identify your islands. Here's the easiest way to do it. Set up your model in Chitubox. Add manual supports or auto supports. I have been adding manual just to see how good I get at identifying them. Next, slice the model and save as CBDLLP file. Keep Chitubox open. Open the CBDDLP file with Validator. Run the fix. This will in essence ignore all the 1-2 pixel islands (these will print fine anyway)., Run the Validator again on the file to identify all the big stuff that needs to be fixed. (The reason I run it to fix the small stuff is I don't want to go through literally hundreds of layers that don't matter anyway) Now, just go back and forth checking the level in Validator and adding the needed support in Chitubox. The bottom line is there is really no need to save the file in Validator. Make sense? Questions, shoot me a PM, I'd be glad to assist!

    When slicing my model and try to save it as a .cbddlp file type, the version of Chitubox (1.7.0) that I am currently using would not let me choose the .cbddlp file type from the drop down list of available file types. However, deleting .ctb and manually adding .cbddlp to the end of my file name and then save it, makes the Photon File Validator believe it can open the file and actually successfully loads the file and analyses it as demonstrated by 3DPrintFarm.

    They need to get this into a slicer. The first one who does will get a huge market share. You also do a very big disservice by completely glossing over the position of the model prior to adding support. Positioning of the model should be a prerequisite to adding support as this can greatly reduce the amount of supports needed. For someone who is claiming they want to make 3D printing easier for people not covering such a basic topics as orientation will lead to many frustrated users which is exactly what this video is supposed to be avoiding.

    I tried using MeshMixer, but the supports sticked to the mesh, and ruined the printing... I would really appreciate if you could give some hints on this software, too.
    In the meanwhile, I'll use your tips with File Validator :)
    Thanks!!!

    Hello, this video is great, and has helped a lot. Can I ask what support settings you use for supports for Chitubox please?
