Guitar Theory Poster Available at my MERCH STORE 🛒my-store-cb48d5-2.creator-spring.com/listing/guitar-theory-poster (It's Awesome and really cheap)
Tried to buy from the store but couldn’t complete the purchase without consenting to receive junk emails. It’s a pity because the theory poster is amazing !
I always had a hard time figuring out the angle and managed to only do it on the G string and only at certain frets, but this helped a lot. Within minutes got it working anywhere and on any string.
awesome thanks for watching👌
Honestly, I was telling my instructor that I am struggling with this 8 hours ago and this video pops up 🎉
Awesome! let me know how it goes after this video!
Your FBI agent's got your back, bro!
Your phone's always listening.
then people say phones don´t listen to you. They fucking do!!!!
The Guitar Gods are looking down on you my friend.
Eddie Van Halen has taken pity upon you and said, My son i will send you the secrets
YOU'RE BLESSED MAN
literally the first sentence is what unlocked it all for me, great description!
Excellent!...hope you watched the rest anyway😂
me watching this with only an acoustic guitar…..
You can play artificial harmonics on an acoustic guitar!... they just don't sound as impressive..give it a go👌
Thanks for the tips, now my loved ones accompany my harmonics with gutural screams everytime i practice 👍
Then my work here is done.
Alternative title: how to slipknot
This was a GREAT video. Incredibly clear instructions.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Intermediate guitar player here trying to learn these, they weren't clicking with other videos and as soon as i watched this one and started practicing i got my first squeal in 5 minutes, thank you so much!
Wow, thanks!
The explanation that drove it home for me was this:
"Pick the string and drive your thumb through the string by rotating your picking hand 90 degrees". If done correctly you'll get a perfect harmonic every time if played in the correct position. For my guitar, the easiest position is just behind the neck pickup (I believe this is a 5th interval). Yes, high gain is also important.
all sounds good! and yes that would be the 5th interval!
SamJam my man, THANK YOU! I’ve been struggling with this for an entire year and watched countless videos that are 10+ minutes explaining, then I find this video and did it on my first try! Thank you!
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching 👌
This is one of the best video tutorials on YT. Nice work
Cheers!!
Awesome! This video works the best out of all the technics I have tried, absolutely amazing!!!!
Glad it helped!
I just want to THANK YOU because all the other ‘just let it lightly touch the side of your thumb’ videos just weren’t cutting it! I can finally do it!! ❤
Glad I could help!
This was the most helpful video. Thanks!
I guess i just learned it by accident, knew about the thumb part also but never thought that there was a science as to where to pick..
its good to know!
I didn't even start training and my neighbors are throwing poop at my window already. What do?
sit tight..backup is on the way... I can only apologise.
You pinched one off and you're neighbours sent you one they pinched off😅
What to doo doo? Lol
@@illletmyselfout.8516 ahahaha
Literally talked about this in a guitar lesson I took yesterday. Thank you!
That's awesome! Thanks for watching 👌
When I was a kid and trying to figure out how to do harmonics without any instruction, I noticed that sometimes when I had my fingers curled to hold the pick that my ring finger would sometimes not be tucked all the way into my hand and the finger nail would touch the string at the same time as the pick. That quickly became my way of turning the pinch harmonics on or off very consistently... with my ring finger lowering from my closed picking hand like airplane landing gear. It was probably 2 or 3 years later when I found out most people choke up on the pick and use the fleshy part of their thumb, which feels completely alien to me after learning my way. ☮❤🎶
Yup! There are certainly lots of ways to achieve a pinch harmonic and I can imagine if you have always used a specific method it would be hard to change it!
Thank you, i didn't know the thing of octaves
It's useful to know👌
Really clear with excellent graphics. Bravo!
Thanks👌
Loved it! Thanks for this detailed guide my man!
Any time!
The cat comment is accurate, I have one cat that protests every time I play, if she isn't she is locked in a closet somewhere. This was the best explanation, I have watched a dozen videos and had zero results, but with your tips, I can now do it, thanks!
Cheers! Say hey to your cat from me🤣
Best and easiest explanation for how to get them Squeely Dans.
Squeely Dans! Love it!! I'm 'steeling' that one👌
Struggling for years with this so jelly watching everyone else. This finally helped. OMG you are a champion. Thanks!
No probs!
12 frets above fretted note is the sweet spot. Harmonics came very naturally for me, though I didn't know why...
Unless 12 frets above the fretted note lies over the fretboard! in which case you would half the distance again from this point and produce a 2nd octave harmonic.... these are much more common👌
Cool! You should try mathcore/rock!
The 1/2 harmonic is the easiest to play after all... but I think 1/4 sounds better
subscribed and push notifications on for your next ten videos at least. I'm grateful for this video. thank you.
Awesome! Thanks, it's very much appreciated!
That's a very useful video, thanks for it.
Glad it was helpful!
Never knew about the halfway picking location. Fascinating
Awesome tips, thank you!
Cheers!
Great video, instant results, thanks.
Awesome! Thanks👌
excellent explanation, very good work, thanks from Argentina !!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is a fantastic lesson. Everything you need to know.
Thanks👍👍👍
Thank you!
Great explanation
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video ! Thank you !
Thanks for watching!
This is way more sophisticated than i thought😵💫
bros the hero we wanted and needed
I’ve been playing almost two years and didn’t know this. Thank you.
no probs! thanks for watching!
This finally made it click for me, got it for the first time after a few tries! Thank you.
Awesome! Thanks👌
Good info. Thanks
No problem!
Great! Thanks!
Thanks for watching 👌
This was actually so helpful
No probs thanks for watching 👌
Thank you, Samjam. Thank you.
Any time!
I hit a pinch harmonic yesterday and it is still ringing out. Thank you for this tutorial.
No probs👌 however I think you may have a serious case of tinnitus😂😂😂
Best explanation I've watched. Another video just said in front of the pup and didn't explain octaves. Awesome can't wait to try.
awesome! thanks!!
Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've actually always struggled with pinch harmonics, so this really helps.
Great thanks!
Yup. Gain and treble tone allow you to access the higher harmonics of the note.
Definitely! Not essential but it certainly helps👌
This is the first video I’ve seen that shows you how to HOLD the pick instead of just saying “Yeah, just brush the string with your thumb or nail.” Thank you.
Much appreciated!!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I've watched all your videos. You are an excellent teacher. I wish the channel development. It would be great if you could share your knowledge on how to compose songs. Thanks!
Thank you very much! That subject and more will come soon! Be sure to turn on all notifications 🔔 so you don't miss any uploads!
Amazingly short and sweet video. Any advice for low e string pinches especially around the low end of the fretboard. This seems to be my only problem area.
it should work exactly the same! just make sure the thumb rotation/angle of take off/pick-up selection are all as described in the video and it certainly can help to have more gain!
Thanks!
No problem!
love the last bit of the vid
It's funny because it's true.
For what seemed like forever, i used to get pinch harmonics every so often, but had no idea how i was getting them.
I eventually did figure it out.
Now i can get them without a pick on a classical guitar.
Great! I will be releasing a video on how to achieve pinch harmonics with no pick soon!
@@Samjamguitar This was back probably before CZcams creators were out of diapers (1981 or so).
A lot harder to learn back then.
@codemonkey2836 for sure! Definitely more difficult pre youtube etc..however a lot of benefit to working out things for yourself👍
I was getting some pinch harmonics the other day on the high E string on my nylon string classical guitar. Funny pings.
Sacrilegious🤣
@@Samjamguitar I know… I touched a plectrum to the sacred nylon strings. 🫣🥹
🤣
Now that its out there, look for it on an upcoming Al Di Meola album 🎵
"Squankin" - Billy Gibbons
🇺🇸
Cool , I've got Dime bags down but I'll get this too . When my dog or my wife see me getting a metal guitar plugged in she starts crying like it hurts . So No harmonics practice unless I'm alone and I love to do this stuff all day 😊
😂 I recommend headphones.
Actually that occured to me and I found my headphones after forgetting where they were for over a year . Happy family 🙂
If you wanna get really good at picking out the location of the harmonics, practice that one riff from Magma by Gojira.
Interesting, didnt know that the actual position on the string for picking mattered to produce different notes, ive always been told to try and look for a sweet spot but not that it could produce different intervals 😮
o ÚNICO video do youtube que me ensinou a fazer harmônicos
Glad the lesson helped!
dude the thumbnail just explained it to me
Job well done then.
Now you are on your way to joining a Pantera tribute band!
🤘🤘
pitch harmonics can be played up stroke, thats a bit different technique
That’s crazy!
@@JohnnyArtPavlou novway )) its easy, just needs some practice
I will be making a video on that soon!
The angle of a plane taking off? Ahahahah. That was funny
perfect
Ta!
Thanks Sam
No probs!
As a 55 year old I picked up a guitar about 2 years and it has been a very slow process , I have time because I'm retired , but feel like I haven't really progressed much. The lessons you put out are great the 3 biggest problems I have are picking faster , theroy , and how to play what I feel and make it sound good. Thank you for making it affordable, and taking time to answer , questions.
No problem! you can achieve quite alot on the guitar in the first 5 years (especially if you have time) the key is sticking at it. Feel free to ask any specific questions you may have over on Patreon and I will do my best to help! 👍
Just to add some information: The main reason why you should select the bridge pickup is that essentially you are suppressing some of the string‘s many wave movements with your thumb, so when the place where you pick and „pinch“ is near the middle or neck pickup - which it is most of the time - then there is almost no string vibration happening close to your pickups and you won’t hear the harmonic clearly.
I first discovered this technique from Robbie Robertson of The Band. Check it out on The Last Waltz.
Awesome, I’m going to annoy the dogs later 👍👍🤠🎸
Excellent.
Sam on your play with feeling video on patreon what tone settings are you using on your amp.
In that particular Patreon video I was actually using the Tone King Imperial MKII foundation preset from Neural DSP (amp simulator plugin). You could get very similar results with overdrive from a tube amp with both reverb and a small amount of delay in the effects loop. You could also try dialling in a similar tone with a modeler style amp such as the BOSS KATANA, simply get an overdriven sound that slightly breaks up when you play harder and add reverb and delay to taste! hope that helps👍
bro really sounds like the guitar teacher from guitar hero world tour
Thanks for the tutorial
Maybe I am...
Great video but I still need help! My pinches sound like ZZ Top or Van Halen but not like Zakk Wylde!! Can someone tell me if it's simply not possible to hit a pinch harmonic like Zakk Wylde on every high gain amp. My amp is a Yamaha Thr10x very high gain but small amp but never sounds like Zakk! I hit it in every way possible on my thumb using my Zakk Gibby but it never sounds right. Is it more likely my amp or just my technique still? Tried forever to sound like his pinches!
What's the background song?
It would have been nice to have this video like 14 years ago when I was trying to learn to do this. Now I don't play anymore and feels bad.
Well don't wait another 14 years! Dust off the guitar and get back on it!!
Wow
So that's where that sound comes from. Does this work on bass?
Any stringed instrument👌
@Samjamguitar Thanks, can't wait to try it out
Awesome 👌 thanks for watching!
Best practice for this is Gojira's Magma
Very useful and concise and gave it a thumbs up but could do without the irritating and irrelevant background music/noise
As a pilot, I approve this angle.
Brilliant😂 thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
I used to do cheater pinch harmonics with the base of my thumb, not near the pick.
I still don't get it should i just stick to acoustic and b*ss?
Well this covers step one, now I need to grow a giant beard, and go get myself some cheap sunglasses.
😂😂😂
The universe is responding
I want to do it on a box guitar can I do it
Might not sound great, but sure! Why not?
And to play on upstrokes?
Same technique but Reverse the angle... I will show this in an upcoming video👌
I learned all that stuff from listening to Billy Gibbons.
Often wondered how that's done, could a spent a little more time on pick method
its all in the thumb rotation and lift off angle👍
Im gonna try this technique because Im really bad at it. For me they are just random!
Follow the steps and you should be good to go👍
This feels like when I was a kid and wathced the first Harry Potter movie and I practiced Wingardium Leviosa along with the kids and the managed to do it but no matter how hard I tried, my feather did not levitate :( But I'll keep trying
The most important part is the hardest part for me to understand :D I'm not sure what he is saying.
Its very clear in the video! Point your thumb towards the ground while resting on the string you intend to pick.
Make sure you only practice these at guitar center.
yes.
Still cant figure it out no matter what i try
There is no "correct way" to do pinch harmonics, however it works for you is the correct way. I'd have quit playing guitar if i had an instructor insist on holding a pic like they suggest, ive never done it that way and mastered pinch harmoniics decades ago.
Totally agree that there are multiple ways of performing a pinch harmonic! This is simply a foolproof method that has always worked for me and anyone I have taught!
I bought a guitar 2 weeks ago why am I watching this
Also how does this work
i don’t understand still i don’t know what i’m doing wrong, i’m abt to give up 😂
I dont understand anything, Im trying to learn harmonics for over 2 months now👍
As a naturally awful guitarist I’ve been able to do these from day 1.
🤣 the only way is up!
i still dont understand help 😭
Learned to do this a couple days and for me it helped to turn the thumb alot like he said, almost turning the pick sideways (try to not do it too much otherwise it won’t ring as good) and the most important thing is to find the sweet spot. Even if you do it with good technique in the wrong spot it won’t ring out, so if you’re not sure if you got it, then you didn’t. When you hit the sweetspot you definitely know it
Also idk if I can explain this but try to make the motion as fluid as possible. Not akwardly trying to touch the string with your thumb. Just find the correct pick and hand position and sweetspot and flick your hand down. If you do that enough then you might accidentally do it and after you do it once or a couple of times you might understand it better
Not that difficult once you know, I can do it on my acoustic too.
yup! you can technically play them on any stringed instrument👌
