Yes this was after 9/11. This was the beginning of the feud with the then “Dixie” Chicks. Natalie Maines spoke against Toby for his patriotism on this song and his support of our military. She was extremely outspoken against Bush and our military response to the attacks. She even wore t-shirts with F U TK . Needless to say country fans didn’t appreciate her remarks and country radio completely stopped playing their music, hence them dropping Dixie and becoming simply the Chicks.
They went to Europe and bashed our President, is what made Toby so mad! They had a big battle over it. Toby is very patriotic. Please pray for Toby for he is fighting Cancer! Thanks!

Toby said the Commandant of the Marine Corps James L. Jones had a very strong reaction to this song and told Toby it was his duty as an American citizen to record this song.
Toby Keith was supposed to appear at the Capitol 4th of July celebration after September 11th and was going to sing this song. Peter Jennings from ABC News was hosting and said he couldn't sing the song because it was too angry and combative. Toby said if he couldn't sing that he wouldn't come to the Capitol 4th. When asked about it at an interview later he was asked about Peter Jennings. He said, well he's Canadian. And left it at that. As far as he was concerned, if you weren't an American then you probably wouldn't get the sentiment of the song. Regardless of views on the singers or their political view. This song and Courtesy of the Red White and Blue by Toby Keith r.i.p. Showcased the two ends of the emotional spectum directly following these tragic and horific events
On March 24, 2001, Toby's father, Hubert Keith (H.K.) Covel, was killed in a car accident. That event and the September 11, 2001 attacks prompted Keith to write the song "Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue (The Angry American)", a song about his father's patriotism and faith in the USA. It took him 20 minutes to write the song. Keith noted that the song was written with reference to the war in Afghanistan, claiming to be indifferent on other conflicts, "but you don't have to listen but once to the words to understand that the song was strictly for Afghanistan". "I have no stance on the Iraq war," he continues, "but the second [that I say], Ι have no stance there, I'm not smart enough to tell whether we should be in there or not". At first, Keith refused to record the song and only sang it live at his concerts for military personnel. The reaction was so strong that the Commandant of the Marine Corps James L. Jones told Toby Keith it was his duty as an American citizen to record the song. "It's your job as an entertainer to lift the morale of the troops," Jones said to Toby Keith. "If you want to serve, that is what you can do. As the lead single from the album Unleashed (2002), "Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue" peaked at number 1 on the country charts over the weekend of July 4.

Actually when Toby Keith went over to do tours in Iraq and Afghanistan he didn't go with the USO. He actually paid to fly his ban, himself and maybe one or two other artists over there to perform for the troops to help keep their morale up. His song Courtesy of the Red White and Blue (The Angry American) he never intended to actually release to the public he only intended to sing it for the troops but someone high up in the Marine Corps persuaded Toby Keith to record the song and release it on an album so that way everybody could hear that song. You're right the President wanted to take the song down because he thought it would only escalate the American people to go after Bin Laden even faster and harder but Toby Keith said he'll no. You're welcome 🇺🇲
Added votes for all those, thanks!
Dammit! You talked over the best part! Pause if you're going to talk guys 😊
Sometimes we will, sometimes we won't.
@@BourbonCountryReacts lol ok. I thought you were looking for comments and suggestions like you said. *UNSUBSCRIBED* enjoy youtube fellas.
Gotta love the internet.
Amazing song.
You talked over the best line. Respect please Respect.
Dixie Chicks gave’em some🐂💩 bout it but back then we was all “sticks & stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” so…🙄
Bryan Adams & Jason Aldean did Crossroads together, and Bryan said, the only thing country about you guys, is your hat.
He's a Country Artist.
I live here by 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles grew up here I come from a long line of military my husband's ex military his father used to work at the Pentagon so yeah when you're overseas that little piece of home stuff that you're familiar with means so much to you
Great reaction. I almost saw him live in Baghdad but my helo was taking off. Lol
Short show for you then. But at least for 60 seconds or so, best view in the house. - Keith
Damn, you started talking at the boot in the ass part! Yes, it was post 9/11
Edit yes Toby has done many USO tours and he didn't forget the ones outside the theater but still overseas
Toby Keith's Ain't as good as I once was is a fun one. Also I love this bar.
We'll add those to our list.
You want some crossover listen to some Bradley Gilbert and Eric Church. These country guys rock out.
yes
High West and Buffalo Trace are my favorites. Bulleit is damn good as well.
Keep the bourbon suggestions coming! Do you have a specific suggestion from one of those distilleries?
Yes it did.
LOL…There has been electric guitars in Country for decades.
Waylon and Merle were master guitarist…that’s why they had to fight to get their music played on Country radio.
Now they're southern rock as well with a mix of Blues Country and rock and roll
Yes September 11. It is so God awful what had happened now. My late husband spent 20 years in the Air Force. He went to Vietnam twice. He would be so pissed if he wad still with us. I'm kinda glad he's not here to see it.
Dixie Chicks gave him hell for using curse words.
Yall you need to listen to more toby
Yeah it came out right after 9/11. That’s the reason for the song. Alan Jackson wrote a song too.
Cool. It makes sense.
Salute.
Yes it did come out after 9/11.
There's also Darryl Worley have you forgotten
Added another vote for that tune.
Would have liked this post but you talked over the best line in the song. The one that caused trouble.
Love the reaction
Yeah it was after September 11
Thanks!
I’m literally drinking makers right now lol. Proud leftist supporter of our glorious military. My grandad was sick the rest of his life after the first atom bomb test, my great grandfather was a green beret, and I couldn’t have more respect for them if I tried. Got a few friends with bad ptsd from Iraq. I love our country, doesn’t matter how I lean politically.
Years ago, I worked for a guy that had one of those bomb-test pins. Crazy stuff.
I'm a rum drinker so I know scrap about bourbon, but uh.... Dwight Yoakam (I'm A Thousand Miles From Nowhere) might get me to switch .
Have y'all reacted to Faith Hill's Take Me As I Am?
You're right the President wanted to take the song down because he thought it would only escalate the American people to go after Bin Laden even faster and harder but Toby Keith said he'll no. He didn't want to disrespect the President but he would not take the song down because the world needs to know that if you come after any American's that you will be dealt with one way or another.
A couple of Toby Keith songs I think you would really like and they are funny, "I Ain't as Good as I Once was" and How do you Like my Now"
We've got both of those on the list.
Florida Georgia Line has some great country songs , Must Must watch video for May We All feat. Tim McGraw , other good ones are Cruise, H.O.L.Y , I Love My Country
Added to the list, thanks Renee, keep them coming!
God bless AMERICA
