    Great choice! The thing that really sticks out about this movie is that is was full of stars before anyone knew them. A bunch of cocoons running around before hatching. Candy Clark was my favorite. I figured if she would accept Toad on his moped, us younger guys still had a chance with our bicycles. Great narration by you and matter of fact, just the way I like it. I never knew it was in Petaluma. Even had to google that for exact location. Now I know a lot about Petaluma. Who knew?

    Been through there so many times driving trucks to get to Napa, and Hwy 80. I didn't realize it was Frates. No wonder Paradise Road never rang a bell!

    My favourite film ever! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, I live in the United Kingdom (England) so this is probably the closest I'll ever get to seeing the actual locations that the film was shot in! Who knows though, maybe one day! Once again, thank you! :)

      I lived down the street from the PeeWee golf course for a while in the late 80s/early 90s, after it had closed, not realizing it was a location in one of my all time favorite movies!

      Pinole Miniature Golf, on San Pablo Ave. in Pinole. I grew up in Pinole and played there many times, both before and after they filmed the scene there. Played every pinball machine you can see in that game room. Recognized the location right away when I saw the movie with the family at Sun Valley Mall Theater when it first came out in 1973. Ironically, that mall/theater is just west (on the other side of the 680 Freeway) from Buchanan Field (the airport in Concord, California) where they filmed the final scene where Curt says goodbye to his friends/family and boards the plane to fly off to college.

    I can't believe this, I'm actually choked up watching this. What the hell is wrong with me? Am I a baby or what? Let me see if I can explain: I JUST watched you discover this movie weeks ago! It's what brought me to your channel! You even did the sequel, which nobody knows! Now it's a short time later.....and you've been so taken with it, that you've actually left your house in search of the locations, and made a beautiful, fun video about it?!!!! I don't know why, I'm somehow touched by that. You weren't faking your reaction! You really did love it! :D I saw this in the theater as a really small kid, my young parents took me along, two people I'll never see again, and I was completely hooked, both on movies, and THIS movie. The other seminal movie theater event for me, in the 70s, was "Close Encounters"....and you've reacted to THAT one as well, when so few others have. This is why I'm such a "diehard" fan of your channel! Anyways, seeing you have affection for this movie....I guess it just "got me". It makes me feel like I'm not crazy for loving it so much, and always trying to get people to see it. Now if I could just stop tearing up! :P
    Mando and Baby Yoda???!!!!!! LOL!!!!! :D
    What a fun day out! It's so fantastic that some of those buildings are still standing! The whole town looks like a movie set! :) And those pianos!!!! Anyone can play those pianos?!!! They just have pianos all over the town? What the.....?!!! :) The shops are beautiful! You even did some cruising 'round Petaluma on your own!!!! And yup....that's unmistakably Paradise Road all right! Wow!!!
    Thank you for sharing this beautiful video with us. You made me feel like I was right there with you! I LOVED it. And I stopped caterwauling about halfway through typing this comment! :P Thank you, Alexa, thank you VERY much . You're the best. This was SO much fun.

      That is so wonderful! Thank you for sharing! Yes, there really are painted pianos all over town for anyone to play. They even keep them tuned. I have walked past as someone was working on them. It is a smallish town, so it has a strong sense of community among the locals. I have to admit it was pretty moving to drive around on a similar route to the characters!

    I'll share this with Candy and Paul. They'll be able to give you firsthand accounts if you got anything wrong, but it looks like you got it all just right. Was the Toad and Debbie making out in the car done at the Petaluma River locale?

    Is Mel's Drive In still there? Do kids still cruise? Most likely not because modern cars are not cool.

    • @alexachipman
      @alexachipman  Před 2 měsíci

      There are classic diners in town still, like the Two Niner Diner, and there are a lot of classic car shows. We also have a decent amount of vintage cars just around, but not sure if they are cruising around!
