As for defogging just before the dive, baby shampoo works great and there are tiny travel-sized bottles that come in handy and are still good for a two-weeks vacation.
When I was first training in the pool with my instructor to get my dive cert, one of the first things you work on is mask skills naturally. I didn’t have any trouble until I was working on taking my mask completely off my head and then donning it again. I kept squishing water up my nose before I could clear the mask. The first time it happened I started coughing but just stayed at the bottom of the pool and trusted my regulator and coughed it out. My instructors eyes got big and he later told me he was worried I was going to bolt for the surface but was impressed I didn’t. 😁 Since then, with practice I’ve gotten much better at donning and doffing my mask.
Thank you for mentioning that some masks should not treated with abrasive cleaners, always check the manufacturers instructions! I have seen some very expensive masks ruined because someone was told to use abrasive cleaners and did not read the manufacturers instructions first, especially on prescription masks!
mask skill (if you didn't bring a backup) Reading your computer and compas without your mask. Creating an air pocket with your hand for 1 eye can be a life saver when you're doing stops and you can actually see when your ceiling cleared!
Leopold Bloom I recently learned that it is not a manufacturer coating but a film on the glass caused by the silicon of gassing. My old trusty mask fogged a bunch this year until I cleaned it with toothpaste again. Afterward it worked perfectly.
Last weekend I did my pool days and passed but this virus closed the open water scuba ranch now I'll probably have my sdi cert finished by Easter weekend can't wait
Do you have any recommendations for masks that work better with facial hair? I'll be starting my SSI open water diver soon and still need to purchase a mask. I've read online that just finding a better fitting mask can fix the sealing issues that occur with facial hair, but I wasn't sure if there are certain masks that tend to be better for this. I know just using some sort of wax is also a solution (as mentioned in the video), but I've also read those can ruin the skirt over time because a lot of them are petroleum based. I'm brand new to diving though, so maybe this isn't as much of an issue as I've been lead to believe.
On my first dive ever, when we tried clearing up the mask, I "breathe" water through my nose, then went up straight to the surface (we were at like 4m depth) . Luckily, after that I succeeded 🤷
Nice channel you have. One of my favourite CZcamsrs is CryptoDaily, and you way of talking and making jokes, remind me so much of him. Maybe he is your brother, he also look a bit like you. LOL

Baby shampoo is truly great! Doesn't hurt the eyes like soap and sticks better than spit.

I never understood why masks are sold with that infamous coating still on the glass. Selling them ready to go would be a unique selling point.

Sea Gold mask prep/cleaner for new mask and then Sea Gold antifog and I’ve never had a fogged mask.

What wax do you use to seal your beard? I have a goatee and always wondered how to get a good seal with the mask.
I shave the top 6mm or 1/4” below the nose. Hardly noticeable and the mask seals great for me.
Trident makes a kind of chap-stick like product for sealing a mask against facial hair that won't harm the silicone of the mask.

Really wish I could get your products in the US! Like XDeep
I have bought their products and it is no problem getting them to the US
Alan Heinrich provided you don’t mind paying the shipping costs.
Honestly Baby shampoo is the best defog in my opinion
I was taught to defog with liquid dish soap
I'm going to get my training soon and um so excited

What masks fold down well as a backup mask? Been thinking the xdeep as a backup
Xdeep would be perfect, its frameless, any frameless mask will fold very neatly
Xdeep one is frameless but very big, better would be Oceanic shadow or mini shadow, Scubapro steel pro
Plus, your backup should be something you re used to,so maybe the same model.

Or just use some snot on your beard 😂
