I though the same thing. I was like this one of her most downplayed vocal sessions. She’s a powerhouse and her lower register and runs are out of this world
I really appreciate your perspective and the level of self-awareness that comes across in your videos. It's very refreshing to see a voice teacher, especially one who posts on youtube, admitting that everyone is different, that we all have biases and that no one's word should be taken as gospel because ultimately tastes and aesthetics are different and that's okay.

I agree! This is good but there are many others where she's all the way in her bag. Perhaps this one was chosen because of the sound quality? E.g. Im in love with another man is one of her best live songs but most recordings are from the crowd etc

She sings in a much deeper tone on the recorded version. It actually sounds much better in that tone in my opinion. I think you should have a listen you. Its a beautiful song ❤️. From what I have observed she usually sings with her head tilted upwards.

I have to say you hit right on the head what was bugging me a bit about the performance...still amazing singer, still very much see her as a a underrated artist, but what you said is so true: there’s always room to grow. I’ve learned that my pride and my sensitivity to helpful criticism has only hurt my improvement. Have you ever heard of Jaime Woon?? His live performances, studio or on stage are my inspiration.

I think the head tilt thing is a way she controls the sound. She has been doing it for years. She is one of the top performers and song writers in all of R&B
