From the line you asked about at 6:53:
Lotus petal into dark ritual, then cast waste not and encroach. that gets you an additional BB to use on powder keg. that gets you to where you were after the line you took, but without needing chrome mox and with discarding their urza's saga. if they reveal a hand with many lands in it you even have the ability to hymn instead of playing the powder keg to hope for an additional BB to then play the keg
I thought of this line, but if they do not have a land in hand then I do not get mana and they could combo next turn right?
@@HarryMTG This is true! It is a bit more risky, but I think the higher upside is probably worth it if we don't miss on a land, which is unlikely. Your line definitely worked though.
@@HarryMTGthe issue is your follow up relies on them having the extra land in hand anyways, since if u cant resolve the encroach discard ur basically in swamp waiting room while they set up
Also they already played a land previous turn and then echo’ed, it’s highest likelyhood for them to have a land after an echo and with their land drop already used, it’s even higher that one is stranded in their hand
You should try to make Aragorn the uniter work. Idc if it’s humans, burn, infect or something else, I think he would be fun to see him in action.

That card is insane! I've been playing brawl on arena with it and it'a honestly stupidly strong and satisfying how much interaction you can have
2:53 I remember reading an article that explains casting Hymn before Thoughtseize is almost always better because you want to be able to scalp your opponents hand after you know what Hymn discarded, if you scalp it first your plans might not work.
Yeah but the opponent had a 3 card hand. Doing thoughtseize first has higher odds there’s a non land to discard for that
my all time favourite card is waste not, used it in a wheel edh deck but got very unpopular and a hassle to keep track of the trigger. Love this video and love to see the card getting used!

Day 18 of asking Harry to WASTE Modern with a Fungus/Saprolings deck
at 6:55 the play i would have made was to gamble on them having a nonbasic land in hand, since they had 5 cards in hand i figured a couple were lands. I would have done lotus petal into dark rit, then waste not and encroach with the last mana (hopefully) make them discard a nonbasic land and generate 2 mana from the waste not. with that 2 mana i would then either powder keg on zero, cast hymm, or play the chrome mox (exiling hymm) to cast opposition agent; depending on what was in their hand. Definitely riskier than your play, but if you hit that land with encroach, then i feel like you have more information to make the correct play, since you got to see their hand.

You biggest weakness are Decks that draw lots of cards? I wonder what card there is to counter that. Maybe a certain orc from the new set.
so on the second to late match i would've done what you did just slightly differently, i would've still chromed the oppo and used petal but i would use that mana to cast the keg crack it and then, have my dark rit in the possible situation i try a thoughtsieze so i could get instant value off waste not. We came to the same outcome just in a different way

I remember when waste not first came out my whole lcs was speculating on them so hard and this one guy named Ryan bought like 65 like all he could find around the shop and what people had in binders

Like this you get ride off the 0 mana artefacts and if he has single land he can't come back (and bonus if you hit urza's saga). Next I would play chrome mox in case of a unmasked or grief and end my turn

This guy had at least one land in his hand at this point. Why did he not play it? I initially assumed it was because he simply didn't have one, but he plays a land the following turn, and the Encroach takes the other, meaning he either had two or had one and drew another.
I was near certain you should have imprinted the Encroach onto the Chrome Mox, but it worked out.
Was this guy trying to make a big brain move and play his land-drops off as though they were top-deck draws?

What on earth is the point in casting force on a hymn? Just discard force and whatever you were going to pitch, that was a baffling play from the opponent
Hymn discard at random. Using Force lets you choose what to discard. In this case opponent was protecting the Show and Tell.
Hymn is random discard. They had 6 cards in hand, so they probably felt the remaining cards were stronger and didn’t want to risk losing them to chance.
Maybe they want to choose the cards they discard? They are a combo deck to be fair
