2: As he's thanking you or whatever the fuck, turn away hard enough to exit the conversation and open your pipboy.
3: Take the vaccine in your inventory and resume the conversation, (he still takes one from you after you've used it).
4: He gives the ghost vaccine to Austin anyway, while you've cured yourself in the process, effectively splitting it regardless.
...

@@ZoofyZoof As far as I think, the dosage was calculated for an adult. (At least my inner logic says so) And usually kids don't get a full dosage of "adult" medication. So it would have totally made sense to give half of the serum to Austin and let Doc research the rest of it. (Or let Nate keep the rest of it). So it just was Bugthesda's way of: "Here's your moral dilemma. What are you going to do, player?"
@DatRealTom actually if you get bit by any of the mole rats while you're down there you lose 10 health until you use the medicine and that's the only way to get rid of it or else it's permanent.

They could put Austin in a cryo tube, the doctor then studies the medicine and is able to easily synthesize a cure especially since he would have Curie right there to show him what she did, and then produce multiple doses. In fact produce a ton of dosas because there's a good chance that this virus may get out in fact others

I still don’t understand why Curie can’t just give you a formula to make more. A robot could just keep it in its memory and probably ran out of ingredients in the vault.
I suppose it might take too long to synthesize another one, given we presume the kid needs it within hours. Depending how complex the process is and how many of the materisls you have on hand.
Though even if that's the case, then you should be able to give the kid a dose and then go out with Curie to make a new batch for yourself.
@@josephperez2004 that’s what I meant. She’s a machine so she should easily be able to give us the formula. I imagine a good insitute SS would probably want to bring that formula to the institute so they could replicate it and maybe sell it at the merchant.

He didnt even need the cure, molerat diseare is just a measly -10 HP debuff. He just didn't want to ve looking at the little icon for another 80 levels.
But then he will pass on that debuff to anyone he sleeps with. Better to cure it.

Fun fact: You can finish that mission without taking any damage. If the mobs don't damage you you don't contract the virus/illness , which means the kid can have the meds and you won't loose any stats.
Fun Fact: If the mole rats hit _*anything*_, including your companions or even the protectron down there, you'll still get the disease.

That's what I always do. It was supposed to be that way, but... well, Bethesda happened. In theory, there is a terminal that releases a protectron that will kill all moles. But due to a bug, protectron getting hit infects you. The fact that some people don't even know you can and supposed to avoid infection really shows how poorly designed this quest is.

I did this quest last night and obviously wanted to give the cure to the kid, so to avoid being bitten and getting the infamous mole rat disease I crouched and walked very carefully, listening to my surroundings for when they pop out of the ground.
I mainly used a combat shotgun and fragmentation mines and grenades. I would recommend having at LEAST 10 mines and 10 grenades.
I often used V.A.T.S. while in a safe corner and could see all my surroundings. If you can, get on top of objects to where they can’t reach you.
Don’t bother bringing Power Armor, it won’t help you. Better to be more able to fit into tight corners anyhow.
Don’t bring a companion or use the Protectron. If they get attacked you get the disease.
Quicksave OFTEN. Every time the coast is clear, quicksave your game for a checkpoint. Of course, make sure you didn’t somehow contract the disease before quicksaving.
It may take you a little while, but it is certainly attainable in spite of its difficulty.
All you need is spray and pray = easy mode.

he said it was something that was talked about in early development and they created Nate with that scene in mind, but decided not to put it in game because they remembered that it was a roleplaying game and the backstory of the character should be left up to the player
I love the fact that the official story writer just decided to make a statement as a way to make a cheap ass plot twist and it just become canon whether you Like it or not

Fallout 4 realistic playthrough
This version of Fallout isn't exactly too heavy on the "pure evil" very often, but they absolutely nailed it with this. Cold, selfish bastard doesn't begin to describe that little scene right there, especially when he put on the façade of acting all concerned about Austin in the beginning. Even when I was playing as a POS Raider as King/Queen Overboss of Nuka World, I was like, "bruh."

I don't put much stock into roleplaying in Bethesda games, but the way Nate says "he can die for all I care. What's one more dead child in this world", sure, it's an awful thing to say, but he doesn't sound mean, he sounds heartbroken... Like it's a parallel to losing his own child, and the experience broke him. Reminds me a bit of Joel.

I do find it weird that the cure can't be split into a dose more suitable for a child, and then they can actually study it and synthesize a new one.

Listen in hindsight I regret not choosing these options because I really had no idea that mole rat disease was even a thing until hours after I had completed this godforsaken quest. I only ever knew austin for like 5 minutes, if I had known I was gonna have less max HP I would have just taken it myself
