- [BlackTree TV - Los Angeles] BlackTree corespondent Madison Chase sits down with Don Cheadle to talk about getting behind The
Don Cheadle, who was McDonagh's first choice for the role of the FBI agent, was immediately impressed by the quality of the screenplay. "It's really rare that you see a script that's as fully realized as this one and a story that's so complete. These characters are all so full and rich. It came to our attention and I knew that John had Brendan interested in doing it and I love Brendan as an actor. Seeing a project that is at this stage and it doesn't yet have a home, we - my partners and my company - really wanted to jump in, to see if we could help get it made." Cheadle joined the film both as co-star and executive producer.
Don Cheadle on FBI Agent Wendell Everett:
He's a man who's near and dear to my heart. He comes from a privileged background. He comes from very good schools, but I think he's probably always interested in justice -- and he's good at his job. He's from various places around the South, although he's originally from Kenosha, Wisconsin, and he's a bit of a nomad. He has come to this place that he knows very little about and has very little interest in knowing anything about; other than to solve the case of 10these drug traffickers. He's an interesting guy -- he has a good heart and he's also funny. He has some quirks that are really funny and a chip on his shoulder that makes him a great person to needle. The unique landscape of the West of Ireland is perfect for this character to come into. It can be inhospitable and it's very foreign and very different from anything Everett would be used to. Therefore, it really plays into the character's dynamic and how he interacts with all of the other characters in the movie. He's secure in his job, but potentially insecure everywhere else. He doesn't like being made fun of. He doesn't get the joke, but when it's about the work, his strength is in the loyalty he shows. A BlackTree Media Production Thank you for watching! one of the most underated movies of all time
I don't think it's 'underrated' or 'underappreciated' because almost everyone who watches this movie absolutely loves it. 'Undiscovered' might be a good adjective for The Guard. It's up to the rest of us who have seen it to spread the word to friends who would enjoy it.
Legend. He's a fine musician too I learned recently
fuck the movie i think im in love
"Underrated"? No way. Anyone who has seen it has rated it highly. Or is underrated just a cool word to use?
Aah it’s not as great as films like in Bruges or intermission but it’s great to see an Irish film with top lads like Don in them
His finest performance. This film opened my eyes to how good an actor he is. Thanks for taking the part Don.
I loved him in this but a while ago he became one of my favourite actors.
Shame he is underrated.
Let me guess you live somewhere in the British Isles. Or Northern Fooking Ireland
Hotel Rwanda opened my eyes to his skills as an actor, but agreed he plays this part perfectly.
Don Cheadle is an amazing actor. If you like Don Cheadle as much as I do watch "Hotel Rwanda" and have tissues for tears. His role was powerful.
Don't forget Boogie Nights ! lol
I think Don was secretly tickled by the Irish dark humor
I don't think it was a secret. He said right away he liked the dark comedy.
This is a proper movie. Brilliantly written, directed, acted, shot and edited. Just a proper piece of work by all concerned. And if you’ve ever spent much time in The Republic it’s pretty accurate too.
bit predictable at the end , but who cares , great movie.
I disagree about the ending. I loved it. It was bitter/sweet, open ended and more poignant than I expected.
@@tomthompson7400 Yep, who cares. It was fun.
Thumbs up if you think Brendan Gleeson is the best Irish actor on the planet!!!
In all fairness now, there's a good lock of the other good ones in the planet now.
I agree !
I can say that I have enjoyed every film I've seen him in and I've liked all his characters even when they weren't meant to be likeable. He adds depth and levels to the characters he plays and he does it very well.
Nine years, you're still getting a thumbs up.
Yes loved him in Braveheart and this movie, is very natural and great facial expressions !
It's called Gallows humour....his script shows a man that doesn't fear the reaper and a man that lives by his principles.
Watching from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Don and Brendan have great chemistry together, they should work together again. Good interview :)
It's open for a sequel, they never found him in the water and he was an Olympic swimmer or was he?
DON: Yes, I got shot
Brendan: Did it hurt?
DON: no y'know, ...OF COURSE IT FUCKING HURT
@@joe-yc3xz Just an angry fat man in a wet suit.
I'd like a sequel too.
Don Cheadle in full-on “wife might be watching, keep it straight” mode with this ridiculously attractive lady
no
Don and Brendan were brilliant in this movie
,
Close to a perfect movie
Brendan gleeson is just a superb artiste, across all types of movies, brilliant film.
Don is a really undervalued actor. He's probably my fav black actor.
@akazombie thank you for the suggestion. We will take it into consideration. I think some of our work is just getting caught up in the transition from Beta to HD, but we are working to resolve all issues and we thank you for watching.
I loved the interaction between these two. Would love a sequel, the ending leaves an opening for one. Brilliant film
I watched this movie (fourth time) a week ago and I want to watch it once again. This time it will be with the commentary track for a change.
I really liked this film. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it though. Will have to have another look.
The best “buddy cop” and best “culture clash” film. Don Cheadle is a legend for starring in this film cos a lot people would assume it’s a racist film but it’s actually the opposite. McDonagh is a genius
One of the best scenes in the movie.
This movie looks great. I hope it's streaming.
some film. what a cast, unreal story
Don is an absolute feckin legend!!!
Best comedy of all time period.
I enjoyed the Guard. Nice to read that Cheadle was McDonaugh's first choice for casting. And Gleeson is always a sure thing in any movie.
If you have a chance, rent/borrow the DVD & watch the gag/blooper reel. Cheadle does a great Christopher Walken impersonation between takes.
Side note: Recently saw Mr. Cheadle's name in the credits of 'St Vincent' as Exec Producer. I hope he's more involved in movies like these, hopefully in front of the camera as well as behind it.
In the not gonna happen Father Ted movie. Who do you cast?
Scarlett Johanssen as Mrs. Doyle
Harrison Ford as Father Jack...It makes sense
Orson Welles or Brando as Bishop Brennan....Ah Eureka. Tom Hanks. No, he's not father ted. BISHOP BRENNAN
Jason Sudeikas as Ted
My gosh this madison chase woman is beautiful
ye gowl, get fucked.
Don Cheadle is an honorary Irish man
he's great craic, i wouldnt get me hash from him tho
Steve Hanlon You don’t speak for the Irish, Steve, no matter how many Celtic tattoos you have
They where brilliant really caught the Irish humor
Excellent movie...Gleeson rocks it..
That finger tap 😂😂😂😂😂
Great movie. !!
Ireland, the country of humour and dark humour
LIKE but... sound should probably be mono, stereo sounds really off. :/ or balance it... Yknow... in the future... although I'm not sure if this has been a problem before :P
Fantastic movie 😁
Did anyone see the hand 😂
was that gleeson trying to reign her in at 4.40?
to think I first saw this cat in a episode of Fresh Prince
Very impressive man.
best actor
Best movie ever
4;41,hand of god
Jesus Christ who is this woman? She is absolutely gorgeous 😍
Considering she was born a man, yeah, convincing
@@jockmackay9582 u serious?
@@DairangerSentai7 nope
@@jockmackay9582 whats the thing of white ppl claiming that black women were men
@@vanpallandt5799 why take a simple non racist joke and turn it into a racial thing? Your brain must be a mess!
Irish people don't call it "Gaelic." They call it "Irish."
Or "Gaeilge," as gaeilge.
Otherwise, brilliantly done.
I've only heard it called "gaelic" in books and on some tourist stuff.
They used Gaelic instead of saying Irish because it’s only Irish people that know that!
The use of the word Gaelic was for all of the audience outside of Ireland so it wouldn’t have to be explained in the movie 😊
We use 'Irish' or 'Gaelge', rather than 'Gaelic' to distinguish our dialect from Welsh & Scottish Gaelic.
'Gaa', as a previous commenter mentioned, is actually a pronounciation of G.A.A. or the Gaelic Athletic Association.
isn't Gaelic the anglicised version of Gaeilge...?
"Put another shrimp on the barbie!" except Aussies eat prawns.
This movie up there with In Bruges, the chemistry is fabulous. I don't get Banshees of Inisherin, its the emperors new clothes.
A great movie that came out at just the right time. Not sure it could be made in todays current climate...
He played the part Great, funny movie lol.
gleeson is a brilliant actor.
I'd give it 4 out of 5
Life is ridiculous, something the Irish figured out generations ago. 🤣
We have a saying here in Ireland.... "Its all Bollocks"
Who is the person that tapped that lady? She was doing a great job! It made me a little mad haha
Don's media guy letting her know her allotted time is up.
Gleason is like so many irish guys.
Why did the interviewer get tipped on thr shoulder
@countys32
I got ya bro
Came here for Don .. stayed for Madison Chase .. good God she's fine af.
And you imagine the Shit if the roles were Turned around??
anybody else a fan of 'house of lies'? how is don cheadle not a huge romantic lead by now? they've been cheating us in the audience. (also, same for gleeson, his scenes with the hookers have me falling in love all over again)
Rokket colors
Jes that's a fine looking woman.
Wtf was the hand that came into frame and touched her shoulder? Guess that cue 4 her that interview to finish up.
This is Brendan gleesons second best film.
And the first?? Calvary??
Strange hand on the shoulder
Better to be a jack of all trades than a master of one. We're Humans, not ants -- leave specialization to the ants.
Yeah, forget Einstein or Shakespeare
Ahh, obviously a Heinlein fan. . .
That hand was weird.
What's with the hand on her shoulder all about?
No leam neeson
what?
Barry White Aesthetics hes from ballymena not Galway also hes not a teig unlike that fat fella
nope he's not a norde
non-stereotypical african american. movie shows him wearing a phenomenally bad suit, up to a point it was almost a pure pimpsuit :D.. err.. wat?
I thought all ye black fallows were drug dealers
He sounds and looks so annoying and snob. Both on screen and in interviews. Brendan Gleeson on the other hand looks like a very cool funny lad
What's up with the stupid censorship?
