      That's funny, but the funniest TV version of a gangster movie will always be Brian De Palma's Scarface (with screenplay by Oliver Stone). The F word is reportedly heard 218 times, so that's a lot of times that the F word needs to be replaced with something "cleaner. " And in one of the most important scenes, Alejandro Sosa (Paul Shenar) warns Tony Montana (Al Pacino), "I only tell you one time. Don't fool with me, Tony. Don't you ever try to fool me." It's unintentionally hilarious.

    1. Ace is actually correct in this scene, and Nicky was getting way out of line. It's why the bosses decided to whack him. Nicky did not make Ace's casino possible--the bosses did. Ace had the casino before Nicky came out to Vegas.

      ***** Oh yeah...in reality both Ace and Nicky got out of control. I mean, Ace was walking around with a cigarette holder & a pink robe "like fuckin' John Barrymore". I love this film because it's about two guys who get the world of Vegas basically handed to them, and they manage to blow it all to hell (literally, in the case of Ace's car).

    • @the-chillian
      @the-chillian Před 9 lety +87

      ***** Ace was more than justified. IRL, Spilotro's job was to make sure of the skim on the casinos Rosenthal controlled. His other activities were strictly freelance, and as far as the real bosses back in Chicago were concerned they drew WAY too much attention to what was going on. That's what ultimately did him in. Had he taken Rosenthal's advice here, he'd have lived longer.
      Rosenthal was smarter. He died of natural causes.

    Nicky calling Vegas “my town.” Ace telling Nicky to lay low in fear of the “bosses” if something went wrong with the casino. A brilliantly executed scene as it highlighted how both of them were operating way out of their depth IMO. The city councilman who was wearing what appeared to be $1500/$2000 dollar snake skin boots made it very clear to Ace that they (Italian & Jewish mobsters) were all guests in Nevada during their meeting. His true power swayed the court to deny Ace (which translated to the entire outfit) their much needed gaming license. He had the power to sway a decision which set in motion a chain of events where the outfit collapsed from within as it pertained to that specific operation and investment. An absolute brilliant film!

Someone pisses him off, he kills them with a pen. Here Nikki is mad enough to chew nails and spit out horseshoes but doesn't touch Sam. Later when Ginger wants Nikki to wack Sam, Nikki gets pissed off at her and kicks her out. Really shows how tight Sam and Nikki really were.

    • @habadasheryjones
      @habadasheryjones Před 4 lety +10

      Nah, it's no contest. Casino is the flashier, longer version of Goodfellas. Casino is about the fall of the Vegas mob whereas Goodfellas tells a way more relatable, personal tale of how one man falls in and violently out of love (even regretfully) with the mob. Thematically they share so much but Goodfellas tells a tighter story and hits the same notes Casino does in 30 minutes less runtime.
      They are both great films but I think people who like Casino more are too mesmerized by all the flashing lights, kinetic camera moves, and larger cast to realize Goodfellas said more with way less.
