When it comes to love songs, most of my favorites come from Richard Marx.
When this song came out I was on a aircraftcarrier in San Deigo, I was going out to sea and I gave this song to my wife. She was crying at the time and it was really hard to leave. Especially when the song starts out saying ocean's apart.
My husband had to go on several cruises when we first got married. One was for 7 months and it seemed like forever. He got out after 8 years, then enlisted in the army. He is a retired Army officer. He was in the Persian Gulf twice.
Anyway, this was a beautiful song to give to your wife 😊
@@jessiem276 Thankyou Jessie, I was in for a total of 14 years. I joined the Navy in 86. I was on the carrier Independence-cv62. We were the first carrier battle group to go into the persian gulf as a show of strength to Iraq's Suddam Hussian in 91. When All this middle eastern stuff started. In 93 I came home in San Diego one night and found my apartment empty, and my wife gone. I wrote everyword of this song on paper and sent it to my wife after I found she was in Crisfield, MD. Here I'am today single since 93, still listening to this song and remembering our walks in the evenings on San Deigo's beach, on Coronado Island. Best times in my life. :) I'm still, right here waiting...............

The first concert I ever went to was a Richard Marx concert and when he performed this song at the UIC Pavillion in Chicago in February 1990, the women in the crowd went NUTS! I secretly recorded the concert on a mini tape recorder and you can still hear the women going nuts when he began to play this song. The piano rose up to the main stage and he started playing the first notes of this song. Crazy screaming from all the women!

I will say, of his ballads, this one isn't QUITE my favorite--though I believe it was written for his wife at the time, actress Cynthia Rhodes who played Penny in Dirty Dancing, so I know it's a really heartfelt song, and I love that about it.
My favorite slow song of his is "Hold on to the Night". Sometime, however, you should check out his first hit, "Don't Mean Nothing", which is a really upbeat but cynical song.
A couple of beautiful and moving songs are "Superman" and "100 Years" by Five for Fighting.
You should react to those. I know you appreciate great lyrics and these songs are musically great too.

Please, please, please U2's Live Aid performance of "Bad" or better do both songs from their set at Live Aid "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Bad" U2 and Queen were the show stealers of Live Aid both bands put on performances that are just absolutely fantastic.
