Super helpful there’s so many other channels that are telling me I need to get some tree paint and paint it over the injury but I’m gonna try just doing what you said clean it up as best I can and trust that the tree can repair it self I’ll just keep an eye on it.
What do you recommend for the top of a new 6ft granny smith where there is a split in the top branch at what I would say is 1/4. I am able to join it back together but curious if that will eventually close off and fully re-heal?
Not the BEST advise. I've repaired many broken branches like this. I know it wont ever be as strong as prior to the break, but it is better than throwing the towel in. I make a STURDY support that will be nearly as strong... it doesn't cut in, and still produces fruit...
