the encounter with Al Capone, is where he managed to con Al Capone, with Capone being none the wiser, and thinking Lustig was an honest egg, now that takes some Almonds.
"Now that takes some almonds"
I'm stealing that
Almonds. Lol.
I love the way these stories are presented. Thank you for making them so interesting

*Back then people hated the eiffel tower, but now a country made a copy of it*
Many countries*
Like 5 in china
Zenn Lozanno china made a copy of everything lol
Meh....
I know about the one in Las Vegas and the one in Tokyo
Counterfeiting before home computers and the internet era was absurdly easy. Like, I guess people just believed whatever documents you handed them were genuine. Why wouldn’t they be? 🤦♂️😂
Its easier back then but you still had to be convincing and a good talker
It depends 😁 some security measures (white stamps, seals) would have been harder to imitate, especially if the person on the receiving end knew what they looked like.
Unless you owned pamphlet/newspaper printers or had network connections with those that worked in the printing industry back then, the process to counterfeiting was more laborious even if producing the counterfeit product itself was "easier". Printers (as in public print shops like Xerox) were still pretty private and rare in those days.
미셜비 I would imagine procuring* hardware or getting a job in a copy shop would be exponentially easier than learning what today amounts to (first and foremost) hacking so that the credentials self-verify. But I see your line of thinking, it could depend largely on the country of origin.
According to Frank Abagnale, it's far easier now than ever before. He's the guy Catch me if you can was based on (read his book, it's 10 times better than the movie) who works for FBI (and have been for couple decades now)
There is a recording of his lecture at some uni or whatever where he talks about his life and it's definitely worth seeing, it is up on youtube somewhere
It’s hard to believe that people hated the Eiffel Tower at one point in history..
Expensive to maintain, ugly, rusting modern art. It's not uncommon for people to dislike giant eyesores that suddenly spring up in their cities.
@@S2Tubes Tbf the colour was worse when it was first built. The rusting actually made it look better.
it's an ugly building tbh
@@carlosandleon indeed is an ugly building. Now, we have the threat of the reconstruction of Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral which could result to an abomination.
@@Tom19142 No, but I prefer to keep the Eiffel Tower Up. And I hope they do something crazy with the Notre Dame. People need to take risks sometimes and we should really allow a bit more chaos into our lives. The original Notre Dame Spire was an add on in itself in the first place. And reconstructing it as it were would just be boring. Or reconstructing with conservative designs. A modern touch is what I would love to see on the Notre Dame. It's time to take a risk and I'm looking forward to what they're gonna build on it
The funny guy bamboozled the fish guy..
So many people missed this 😭😭
@@TheBlvck1 I know! Oh well. :c
3:26 The Rumanian Box illustrates the underlying fallacy of most scams: If you have a Rumanian Box, then you do not need to sell Rumanian Boxes. "Oh, so you're printing money? Well, good luck with that!"
:) Agree.
On the other hand, someone who is fixated to the opportunity of getting lots of money the easy way, he/she will make poor decisions.
... and that fallacy used to be an important part of the story. The con man shows up like someone who doesn't really need money - which is always convincing, plus it's a good starting position in the process of bargaining... (seemingly, he doesn't even want to sell the box).
Sounds like my thinking about properity gospel preachers and false prophets that are proliferating in Africa today. Someone asks you money so he can bless you with money?
The sad truth is the connery seems to have won everyone around me here. Gid save us!

Fun fact: "lustig" is also a German adjective which means funny
yeah wouldnt you know Helmut
Same in Swedish... So probably also in Danish and Norwegian :)
Traum is probably my favourite German word used to derive an English word. It's not a very obvious connection between dreams and trauma, unless you've experienced trauma yourself. I just love the esoteric connection. And etymology in general.
In Danish: "Lystig" = Very happy
@@a.w8584 yeah, 'lustig' means weird, funny....
You should make an episode about Naji Nahas, a man who singlehandedly bankrupted Rio de Janeiro's stock exchange.
*Illusion 100*

I'm now hooked on this series... anyone else?!
Lustig means funny in german
Ahmed Oueslati And Swedish :p
Vharmi Tänkte precis säga det
He sold the Eiffel tower to a guy who’s last name means “fish”.
@Bootsandcats het is Lustig niet Rustig

There's a person in India called natwarlaal who sold Taj mahal to multiple people..

I just foun this channel now.. And i LOVE it!
He can easily get a high paying job with such charm but he wants to scam instead.
Which sounds funny, and it is, but it's unlikely to build up that kind of unhealthy attitude and personality just because he himself decided so - for no reason (at least in the case of a highly intelligent and sensitive person who has got some education).
Or start a tycoon
Why is his face so small lool
Zahary the beard
Jeez I was wondering the same thing. Probably his forehead and beard

Besides the storytelling, I enjoy the animation very much!

My grandmas maiden name was lustig and today I just found out that he was actually her great uncle. She said the family never talked about him and found out from letters that were left over when her dad passed away.
I can’t believe he tryed to sell the Eiffel Tower for a second time😂😂
there was a book that i read in school tricky vic about him pretty good i recommend it
I feel bad for the man that fell for it :(
What does Sacrebleu means?
I’m French and I have never heard anyone saying that
C'est une expression de surprise, of wonder or otherwise. Moi aussi je n'ai jamais entendu quelqu'un le dire au quotidien mais c'est une expression un peu daté, connue mais un peu daté.
You aren’t French because French people say sacre bleu about 7 times a day fact

Pretty funny Mr. Lustig.
For those who didn't get it. "lustig (German)" - "funny(Englisch".
Tom Scott got to this first in an episode of Citation Needed. Still, very entertaining video!

Please make a video about Dimas Kanjeng Taat Pribadi. He promoted himself as a 'spiritual guru' and he got viral in Indonesia in 2016 or so..
Victor was my great grandfather. You have quite a few things wrong with this production. I wish it would be corrected.
He is my relative my mother still had the name Lustig until she married my dad. I found out about Victor Lustig trough grandma she liked genealogy. Fun fact Lustig means funny/jocular, it's a fitting surname for Victor.
