  • A deeper look at a few very key reasons for the lack of high end production from Byron Murphy in college. He only had 8 sacks in three years at Texas, but you have to get into the film to see why Murphy's production wasn't more akin to elite defensive tackles usually taken in the first round. Reasons outside his control, and that should go away as he now becomes a pro.

What's funny is that the "single block" you refer to around the 28:30 mark was actually an attempted double-team. You see the center pivot to get hands on him after the snap, but Murphy had already knocked the guard back to far.

Great job breaking down the tape. Your content is always great to listen to and watch. Keep doing your thing! Always look forward to your videos and livestreams. Go Hawks

Either BM or Big Cat going to get double teams and the other player is going to get a one-on-one. Plus, LBs can come down clean on the blitz or run defense. Excited how MacDonald can further mold this guy!

He's a beast. Smashes through double teams on a consistent basis. Teamed up with the rest of our amazing d line, he should be a problem for offenses to deal with.

Murphy was one of the biggest steals in this draft - he could've gone to the Falcons or Bears and nobody would've scratched their head. The fact he went at 16 is nuts. I know a lot of Rams fans (being a Seahawks fan) that were pissed.
Then they get another steal in the early 3rd with the best guard prospect in Haynes... yet the media rated them a collective B or B+ draft grade, lmao. Rename Seattle to New York and it'd be a national headline with what Seattle did in the draft.

Brendon, you had me at Double!
An outstanding breakdown backed by tape, I fully buy into your theory. Gives me goosebumps if this practice becomes common place in the 2024-25 NFL season regarding Murphy.
Although watch some dirty sneaky O.C. use the tendency of doubling and tripling a player into a splash play, by using tendency ‘s developed responding to the double teams. ITS Maddening!
At the end I’m thinking them responding to us versus us to them should be a winner more often than not…. GO HAWKS!
    Great job brother!

Interesting to note that BM has the highest pass rush grade out of every player on that list you showed in the beginning. 2nd highest grade overall, but number 1 pass rush.

Calling him the next Aaron Donald has always been optimistic. But hey if he's anywhere near that level we're doing really well

I'm discouraged cause on the ESPN depth chart they have him as DE. I solely want him at nose cause that's where we get our ass kicked every year

Hankins, cam young, jarran reed. Nose tackles. Murphy isn't a NT even if Texas played him there part time.

@@iron_bison But why DE and not DT?

Murphy most compared to A Donald. Probably the best DT to come out of college in the last 10 years. I doubt any center will be able to stop him. Even double teaming him won't help. Only problem- can he maintain that for 60 minutes, maybe not.
