    Idk if you still have one of these but this makes a great bird hunting pack. I have a 1606MC frame on one of these and some eagle industries Beavertail assault pack straps, and hip belt is FILBE belt.
    The frame manages the weight of a few boxes of shells, water, and whatever other small/soft items you’d want to keep with you as you walk from field to field. Found this pack (subtly different) in an old locker in the army, dremmel’d the metal buckles off and replaced them with nexus buckles, it’s been great.

    The last bag is a UNICORR (Fed. prison manufacturer) modified radio bag, derived from an M81 medium ALICE pack. These were simply packs for radio equipment only as a speciality item, not to be used in the same sense as the ALICE. They were not designed to go on a frame. The military told the manufacturer what it wanted and they took an ALICE radio pack apart and gave the DoD only those features.

    great video !! i was just looking at one of these online and they said in the description that it did not fit on the standard alice frame. so dmy guess is they tried to do the same thing, by trying to slide the frame into the whole padded section and gave up. for my purpose i just want it to slide into the upper part, as long as i can put it onto a frame i dont care about the padded middle section. thank you for the walk thru of the different packs and the differences between them !!

    Wow, I just did this comparison yesterday. Similar results. Regular medium is way taller above the webbing, shoulder strap rings wider, side webbing in different places and the middle one is horizontal, lower mounting straps way lower, pocket straps buttons closer together. My radio version is shorter but doesn't have the padding, got it from a veteran.
    I clearly got more gear into the regular Alice pack. Will make a video and link here, eventually.

    Wow!!!!. You did great in your first video. Great editing to thanks for the shout-out as well. I would definitely say you have the real deal, but definitely odd that it's us army and usmc. Definitely a mystery. I'm going to have to measure my radio pack and see now. This one doesn't look the same as mine though. My Hungarian alice pack was tight fitting over a alice frame, but it was brand new, and with yours being brand new that could possibly be why it was tight fitting over the frame but not sure. This is awesome I'm subbed and here for the ride. I'm going to go ahead and share this video. Thanks for sharing, and happy Thanksgiving 😎😎😎🦃🦃🦃🦃

      I got to thinking about that padding on the back of the ruck. I think that extra padding is there to help mainly when using the bag without a frame. Then if you had a heavy radio, it wouldn't be digging into your back nearly as much. Looking forward to hearing the measurement results of your radio bag.

      @@m81ftw hummmm🤔🤔. That makes sense. O yes I still have to measure that pack. I keep forgetting. We on vacation up in north east wisconsin at the moment, but I will measure it for sure.

    Also, remember that with an "authentic"Medium ALICE, there should be 3 D-rings under the radio pouch, inside the pack, along with flattened para-chord draw strings inside on the bottom to turn the Medium into a shorter "assault" pack. In that confirmation it would resemble Scotty's pack on frame with the MMSS carrier installed on the frame, in his video.
    Btw, some newer Medium packs deleted the 3 D-rings & draw strings I mentioned. Not sure if that was intentional or a Reproduction model. Even without the D-rings you can still fold the bottom of the pack and use the lower frame attachment webbing & buckles, to achieve the same shortened assault pack. There are videos on this as well.

    • @vermontvermont9292
      @vermontvermont9292 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yeah, they did later on remove the D rings etc. Especially late 90's early 2000's.

    • @larslevinberget9558
      @larslevinberget9558 Před 5 měsíci

      I believe they only had the 3 D-rings and paracords in the 1970s productions of the medium Alice, the LC-1 with the alligator buckles. The 1980s LC-2 with the long straps and the FB ladder-buckles don't have the inner D-rings. I have both versions, as well as a large LC1 from when they started making them again in 2002 - all 3 in different shades of Olive green :)

    Hmm, I have one similar to yours... Much smaller, strange color and texture. Name is radio carrying case, nsn 5895-01-461-4505, unicorn 82125. My inner pouch is also the same as it pretty much is the same size as the main pocket. Only difference is that the rear of my pack is open like a regular Alice pack unlike yours.

    I just bought this pack and got it today thinking that it would be the same as my other Alice pack with the radio pouch, just new. I originally was going to put it on a frame, but now that I know it’s shorter and has extra padding, I think I’m going to leave it as is. It’s a really nice pack regardless.

    • @m81ftw
      @m81ftw  Před rokem

      It's so hard to say. With the size of the internal radio pouch being basically the same size as the whole main pouch, and the main pouch being shortened, they must've made it specifically for carrying radio equipment only. Depending on the size of the radio, you wouldn't be able to carry much of anything else inside.

  • @Thee-_-Outlier
    @Thee-_-Outlier Před rokem +1

    Marine Corps ground units use the same vehicular and manpack SINCGARS radios as the Army
    ^^which would potentiallyexplain why it seems issued to both army and usmc. This bag was very specific to carry electronics. It is padded for vibration and other reasons. My guess is this is a modified alice for radio comms accross branches if the military. They likley used the same pack becauae they used the same radios. This nsn has not bwen ordered by any armwd forces acceoss the glode sonce 2013 or 2015 i forget, but there was nwver any demand for this ruck. Its probably qhy they are coming out of the woodwork now as new condition and in woodland cammo. My guess is this is deyalegit issued bag and you put it on the frame correctly because the pad is to protect the electronics from the frame id imagine. I justbwanna know why is it shorter. Why not use the same wxisting material patterns for the main parts of the bag instead of making sicj a specific size that requires its own production of parts. There seems to bw no prarocal reasons for the slight size diff, but evwrything else makes sense
