Man this is a great documentary. I absolutely loved watching BJ Penn in his prime. It was sad to watch the way it unraveled for him in the end. But in his prime he had such a killer instinct and was just a savage in the cage. He's definitely one of the greats and pioneers of the lightweight division that put it on the map.

Yeah man, Blow Job Penn was one of the best in the world back in the day. He was good for his generation, but as the skill level began to raise, it became apparent that he just couldn't compete. He would lose every single fight for nearly the last decade of his career and beating him held about as much weight as a guy beating Chick Magnet Punk.

The version of BJ Penn that destroyed Joe Stevenson, Sean Sherk, Kenny Florian, and Diego Sanchez looked to be unbeatable at 155. Watching him at that time was seeing greatness, even after he lost to GSP in his bid to become the simultaneous double champ. But sadly, once he lost that drive, the train really went off the rails and the losses started piling up. Penn vs. Edgar 3 really solidified it for me. BJ's game plan, right down to that awkward upright boxing stance, was so confusing and ill-fated, but the fact that he kept coming back to lose badly was really hard to watch for anyone that saw how incredible he was during his prime. It doesn't take away from his successes, but those last few years were kind of depressing.

BJ Penn is a true legend in MMA, known for his remarkable accomplishments inside the octagon. His dedication to the sport and his relentless pursuit of excellence have left an indelible mark on the MMA world.
What's equally inspiring is his unwavering love for Hawaii, his home and a place close to his heart. Penn's connection to Hawaii transcends the sport; it's a testament to his deep roots and pride in his heritage.

The morning after the Diego Sanchez fight, which coincidentally is both mine and BJ’s birthday, I sat down to watch the fight I recorded on Sky+ and was actually rooting for Diego. The fight starts and BJ immediately dropped Diego and I was just in awe of his performance the whole time. I had been thinking to try some training at that time as I had started watching MMA a few months before at UFC 101 when Anderson toyed with Forest and BJ beat up Florian.
I had just turned 15, I then bought BJ’s book and got hooked on the idea of jiujitsu, found a club and met my first bjj coach and mentor. I’m now 28, training and teaching jiujitsu for a living in a foreign country.
Thank you BJ for helping me find my passion, you’ll always be my favourite fighter.

As a friend of BJ and having the opportunity of being in the background for a ton of these fights I'm forever grateful to the Penn family for their friendship and introducing me to a lot of the people that I still call friends and keep in touch with. Not every can say they were carried out by Mark Coleman after getting hit with a chair hahahaha.

    • @hokimmuthafuckah

BJ was fighting Rodrigo Gracie in the main event when it happened. I was in the back with Mark Coleman, Wes Sims, Pat Miletich and Tony Frykland. A brawl broke out in the stands so we ran out to break it up, on the video a chair comes flying and nails me in the side of the head. I don't remember much after that but you see Mark Coleman push through the crowd, lift my fat ass up and carried me to the back lol.
I've got tons; Right before BJ fought Renzo Gracie at K-1 we get an alert over our earpieces that Rickson Gracie is outside wanting to get in. Most of us thought it was BS cause we'd have known, but nope, he really was outside lol. The security guards were getting rough with him and we ran out and escorted him in, we told the security guards that we just saved their lives.
Another is taking Bruce Buffer, Larry Landless, John Hackleman, Frank Shamrock and Matt Lindland to the bar....that was the oddest group ever seen, they ended up going to a karaoke bar after and stayed there til noon the next day. They def needed to be helped back to their rooms.

Skill wise he had it all naturally but when he was ON he was ON. The run through of stevenson, florian, sherk and sanchez was just pure destruction by perfection. There was nothing like a BJ Penn with a FULL Gas Tank... His losses were split decisions where most were questionabble. He was never really stopped. That's a pretty crazy statement when you just lost a fight. I went to the club and he went to the hospital.. Whoever is going to the hospital in that scenario should definitely have lost the fight..

I remember there was a video of bj Penn with a song called one in a million. I wish I knew who sang it cause it was very fitting.

BJ won the first fight against GSP for me but the second should have been a no contest
