RIP Queen Elizabeth II. I’m a Chinese immigrant in New Zealand, one of the Commonwealth realms, and I consider myself a staunch monarchist. When my parents grew up under communism, they told me that British Hong Kong was a refuge for people escaping from persecution and violent revolutions. I don’t care what the ‘anti colonialists’ say, but Her Majesty was a symbol of hope for me, and she’ll forever be my Queen. She served graciously for 70 years.

In my country the British monarchy was/is the symbol of those who stood against Hitler and our liberation from Nazi tyranny. I know it is today the fashion to bash the British past but we should be brave enough to speak out for the possitive things the Brits gave the world. We own it to those who gave their today for freedom. Like the fight to abolish slavery and for sacrificing their empire to stop the Nazis and fascists. The Battle of Britain was more than a victory for one but for all of us. And be assured they could have made a deal with Hitler to safe the empire, he was willing to talk as he feared his Krieg Marine would not be able to defeat the Royal Navy.

"I Vow to Thee, My Country" is a British patriotic hymn, created in 1921 when music by Gustav Holst had a poem by Sir Cecil Spring Rice set to it. The music originated as a wordless melody, which Holst later named "Thaxted", taken from the "Jupiter" movement of Holst's 1917 suite The Planets. So credit for the music goes to the British composer Gustav Holst. This was probably first performed in 1921 and became a common element at Armistice memorial ceremonies, especially after it was published as a hymn in 1926.
Holst adapted the music from a section of Jupiter from his suite The Planets to create a setting for the poem. The music was extended slightly to fit the final two lines of the first verse. At the request of the publisher Curwen, Holst made a version as a unison song with orchestra (Curwen also published Sir Hubert Parry's unison song with orchestra, "Jerusalem").

    Lyrics
I vow to thee, my country
    All earthly things above
    Entire and whole and perfect
    The service of my love
The love that asks no questions
The love that stands the test
    That lays upon the alter
    The dearest and the best
    The love that never falters
The love that pays the price
    The love that makes undaunted
    The final sacrifice
    And there's another country
    I've heard of long ago
Most dear to them that love her
Most great to them that know
We may not count her armies
We may not see her King
Her fortress is a faithful heart
    Her pride is suffering
And soul by soul and silently
    Her shining bounds increase
And her ways are ways of gentleness
And all her paths are peace

When I saw Les Mis on Broadway, in, I think, 2015?...Ramin was starring in it. I didn’t know who he was and it was the weekend so he was not appearing that particular afternoon. It was still remarkable but....this is what I missed? This man is over the top talented and I could, and probably will, watch this every damn day....❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻

I had never heard of this gentleman before I watched this. If I'm perfectly honest, my first thoughts were "who the hell is this singing this very British song?". And then I watched it. Well wow. And I most definitely agree with other comments. If there had been an audience, they would have been on their feet - as would I. Wonderful.

He has played Jean Valjean in Les Miserables on Broadway, the Phantom on West End with Sierra Boggess as Christine(maybe Broadway too) , He was Glen Vagonov from Anastasia on Broadway, I don’t remember who but he was in Chess on either Broadway or the West End, he did the off Broadway production of Secret Garden with Sierra Boggess, and he and Sierra originated the roles of Phantom and Christine in the Phantom sequel Love Never Dies on West End as well as other gigs. And he also has his own little Broadgrass(Broadway & Bluegrass) band he tours with as well as some albums and EPs. The man has some definite singing chops and it’s how he met his wife Mandy.
