Wow. Just wow. I have a lot of respect for Steve Earle for not only speaking about such a traumatic loss publicly, but talking the audience through why this is so hard for him, and what he's feeling, not breaking down, and then performing his son's song about suicide, after losing that same son to a drug overdose. I know I wouldn't have the strength to do that, but in doing this public grieving, Steve Earle is helping so many others who've lost loved ones . RIP Justin. I know Steve will never "get over it" but I hope he has some measure of peace in his life today.

Steve Earle had very little to do with raising him and he certainly didn't grow up rich, or die rich for that matter.
    Lyrics:
Lord, I'm goin' uptown to the Harlem River to drown
Dirty water gonna cover me over
And I'm not gonna make a sound
I'm on a roll, mama, I gotta go
Gotta get there while I still can
Troubled days are behind me now
And I know they're gonna let me in
When you see me walkin' up the FDR
Just a-singin' and a-clappin' my hands
Tell my mama I love her, tell my father I tried
Give my money to my baby to spend
'Cause Lord, I'm goin' uptown to the Harlem River to drown
Dirty water gonna cover me over
And I'm not gonna make a sound
Good times come and they go
    Even a good man'll break
He'll let his troubles bury him whole
Even though he knows what's at stake
    So I'm taking no chances
Carrying over while I'm still good in His grace
    Sayin' I'm no fool, mama
I know the difference between tempting and choosing my fate
So Lord, I'm goin' uptown to the Harlem River to drown
Dirty water gonna cover me over
And I'm not gonna make a sound
Lord, I'm goin' uptown to the Harlem River to drown
Dirty water gonna cover me over
And I'm not gonna make a sound
Lord, I'm goin' uptown to the Harlem River to drown
Dirty water gonna cover me over
And I'm not gonna make a sound

When I tried listening to the record version of this, I couldn’t stomach it, it just seemed too, “busy”, I guess, even though the way Justin did it was very lively. But it just didn’t work for me. This stripped down version of just two people w their guitars, and Steve’s talk before just put a little more perspective to it. I still prefer Justin’s version, but I’m biased, because I think he may be my favorite all time solo musician
