It looks like to connect to an A7III you need to use the wired connection. I'm very curious what kind of cable connection it needs, USB C to USB C, or USB C to mini HDMI? I wonder if the phone can be powered from the camera battery as well. **UPDATE** I decided to buy the app, knowing they have a 14 day refund window. I am running a Pixel 2 with a Sony A7III and I was able to get a wired connection working with a USBC to USBC cable. It actually works amazingly well. Each of the tools can be customized simply by holding your finger down on the tool icon and making the adjustments right there. Very convenient. Touch focus/tracking works perfectly. Hi Chris, thanks for this video! It's working well for me so far (iPhone 12 Pro Max) but I can't seem to save images onto the phone directly (I do thumbnail shots as well). Am I missing a setting toggle somewhere? Or can I only access the image from the camera?
theres a setting you can change, top left I believe gives you more options.
Works on my A1 with iPhone. Easier to use than a NinjaV with the A1 (no flippy screen) for one man video setup. As soon as I saw it worked, I bought the paid version. Thanks, Chris.
Are you able to record the live feed from the A1 that shows your af points locking on subjects within this app? Would be a huge help to not have to mount the Ninja V just for this.
This app is amazing! I tried it in wired mode and it's running at 60fps with *no Latency at all*
How did you use a wire ?
@@DannyNagymusic USB c to micro USB cable. It was on a galaxy. With USB c iPhones it may work as well. I'll have to test it
Wow, Chris!!! This is AMAZING!!! You just saved me a few hundreds of 💸 Thank you sooooooooo much for making this video, especially that is not even an affiliate video! You just won another subscriber in return 😅. I’m so glad I’ve discovered your content. I really love the way you explain everything with so much passion, patience, humour (I love your dry/sweet humor 😂😂😂!) and HONESTY! I like the fact that you explained that is free, but we’ll need to pay extra for some features. I think the price is wayyyyy less than a crappy monitor , plus we carry our phones everywhere which makes it perfect for the minimalist content creator. Thank you!!! Sending you much gratitude from the snowy Switzerland.
Well, firstly - a huge thank you!
I just tested it on my A7III and I it sadly DOESN'T work :( hopefully in a future update.
same here :(
@@compspace Same here. I was searching so bad, to find an option to finetune the focus while focusing stars. Here with that slider it would be awesome. But no.. A7III is not supported..
A7III is supported (as the website says), but only on Android and only via wired connection. And with limited functionality.
Same here as well :( fingers crossed they will add in functionality to this camera 🤞
I'm afraid this limitation is in the camera itself, there are other older Sony cameras that have tap to focus available in the imaging edge sony app but not the a7iii.
Amazing, I tried it in my Android Phone and iPad Pro ipadOS14.5 and it works Like a Charm with my Sony A7S III
DUDE!!!! I did not know about this!!!!
You’re welcome 🙃
Yeah Sid, such a great and handy solution. Looking forward to try it!
Duuuude thank you SO much for this! I’ve been using it on my iPad Pro and it works FLAWLESSLY!
its super impressive, cant believe how well it works.
I JUST LOVE THIS. Thank you very much Chris.
Welcome
OH MY GOD! Most Genius and complete camera App ever! And for Android as Well as iOS, amazing!
Does it work for Fotos too ( tap af ) ? Or only for filming ?
The one thing I hope they address is the active tracking square (which shows up on the camera screen), does not show up on this app screen. You can activate active tracking from the phone screen but you can’t see if it’s tracking properly. That little floating focus square doesn’t appear…. Unless I’ve missed a setting somewhere. Other than that, I’ve been using this for several months now and it’s spectacular.
yeh agreed, would love to see the little box too Dave
Can you tell me if tap AF works in photo mode too or is it only working in film mode ?
amazing app, using with a7s3 on usbc cable, great combination less delay (minimum with wireless conection), important that to unlock all functions like touch/focus we need pay the license, which is really worth it because the app is really very good!
Hi Chris, May I request you to make an in depth tutorial video about the Monitor+ Pro version app. I've recently purchased the Pro version for my A7SIII only after seeing your review but trying to figure out some of it's advanced features. There's not much on their official website either. So it would be interesting if you take time to post a detailed video about the app. Thanks in advance. You're doing an amazing job! Keep it up! 👍🏼
Latvijas - I’m so tired of people like you assuming that just because I made a video about something I like that works for me, it means I was paid to do it. Ima click hide user from channel now, See ya
✌🏻
I've been waiting for an app like this for a long time! Thanks for sharing Chris
Would love it if the a6400 got supported too.
yea mine didnt
Yeah that would be fantastic.
Have you tried a wired connection with an android phone? The website says the a6400 is supported in that configuration
Guys i am going to get external monitor - so that it can power my a6400 at the same time
@@liquaard2824 :)
This is how all Camera apps should be, this is perfect.
Damn they got us good. What a let down, I was unable to get the app to connect between my A7III and Galaxy S20 FE or iPad Pro 2018... Even imaging edge would connect 🤢 finally got my hopes up for a usable app but it just says connection successful and then loses connection every time.
I got the same issue but I have the sony a6400 and the galaxy s20 fe.
@@SamHernandez27j Their site says a6400 works wired, not WIFI.
I have my A7R3 and I'm also getting the exact same connection issue with a big failure. Yes, imaging mobile works better, but that tap to auto focus isn't there... Ugh!
Duude this is such a valuable video! this really has me thinking about not needing my Atomos Ninja V, and if I stop using pro res raw, then all i need it this! it's nearly identical! Here's hoping nothing sony does nerfs this app because it's gold.
When will they has it available through Google Play?
Yeah I was thinking that too. They have an android version but only available on their site? Seems shady smh
Very shady!!
@@EclecticLensYT, where can I download the apk ?
@@OlaviMurto , where can I download the apk and whats the name of the app?
@@jmauricio1973 I honestly can't remember specifically. You'll have to watch the video and check the description 👍
THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO I HAVE EVER WATCHED IN MY LIFE WOW MY LIFE IS LITERALLY ABOUT TO CHANGE FOREVER THANK YOU SO MUCH 🙌🏾🤝🏾💯
Wow, the tap to focus and focus pulling is something no monitor has. and luts + anamorphic are things most basic monitors don’t have either
WOW!.. I was about to pull the trigger on that Ninja V.. Saved me a lot of 💰💰 for now 😁 Will try this one first.. Thanks a lot for sharing man!..
Monitor+ official website FAQ'S:
Which cameras are supported?
Wireless connection: Sony a7R IV, a9II, a7C, a7S III, a1, ZV-1, FX3 and newer models
Wired connection: All model listed above plus: Sony a7 III, a7R III, a6100, a6300, a6400, a6500, a6600
wired connection available on Android version only
THX Chris!
Interesting list... My Sony A9 isn't listed 🤔
I saw someone mention they have a 14 day money back guarantee so I might try it anyway. I want to see if it focuses properly with my Xperia 1ii's shutter button.
Downloaded this app on my iPad Pro… its fantastic… thank you for tip Chris
didnt work on my a7iii
They add M3 too ... Just tried it
dude! thanks for this! great app & i was snapping pics with it on my a7cii within
If you're a sony a73 user wanting to use the touch AF function, this unfortunately isn't the answer. The AF functions don't seem to be compatible. I found this out the hard way 🤮🤮🤮
How didyou open the a7iii?
I was able to move the focus point around.
@@pinoybtcanalysis6576 It looks like you have to connect by USBC cable on the A7iii
Love this bro !! One of the best channels out there for sony cameras
🙏🏼
It remained to clarify: a7III does not work and none of the a6xxx line version via wireless connection. Only wired. And the wired connection version has limited functions, and only works with the paid version. Transparency is everything, my dear.
It's because a6xxx use 2.4GHz and the app works on 5GHz connection.
I'm using A6400, and the app can't find my camera. So you're saying I need to connect a cable from my iPhone to the camera?
I got so excited, only to find out it doesn't work with the a6000 series (a6600) wirelessly. Looks like I'll still be ordering that monitor.
This is the best! Thank you for this. Once they add playback it’ll be party time… 🎉 or maybe I have not found it yet. No matter what - this is awesome💥
This app is insane ! :O
Im completly blown away....
Tap to focus🤤
This changes everything!
after i tried 3-4 usbc to usbc cables it worked (sony a7iii) with the dji ronin rsc2 cable for sony
Life saver. Best start into a week. Thanks a lot for sharing this app 🙏🏼
That's probably the most welcomed "You're welcome."... one hundred times less expensive greeting, one hundred times more appreciated one ! 😉
Any solution for sony a6000
[iPhone] For my A7iii it says “not supported” after connecting, anyone has any fix?
This app is sick! Probably not a direct replacement for a dedicated monitor because then you would have to rely on your phones battery, but definitely a very useful tool for many cases.
Thanks for the review Chris - I have been looking for a tethered solution for the A1 - and it works perfectly.
Thanks for these useful videos, refreshing to see one once in a while in this camera-related sector!!
Dude. I’m amazed. This works so well on my iPad Pro and FX3. Thank you for this video, cuz otherwise, I would’ve tried to buy a teradek 😭😭
Why am I just now finding out about this app for android??? Thanks for the video!
Just bought the app - it's great! Thanks a lot for your perfect video explanation!
Tap to focus that’s all YES ALL WE NEED 🙌🙌🙌🙌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🙌🙌🙌🔥
Advice to all the Iphone users; it has been very laggy when i downloaded it but then i put the phone on airplane mode and only turned on wifi to connect to the camera and it's wayyy better!
Althoughhh... the updated imaging edge app is working better on my FX3 regarding lag...
Dude! Thanks so much for this video!
Definitely needed this app over the image edge.
Is there a way to playback video recordings from camera via the Monitor+ App?
Connected with my A7RIV and works great. Thanks!
Thanks for the heads up Chris. This app is just what I was looking for, a display with better resolution than my camera's screen or EVF. Thanks again!
Wow great video! I did not know about this app - wish it had audio so I could monitor with airpods or something. You are right though, so much stronger of an app than the one from Sony.
I got the app for my iPhone and FX30; it’s pretty cool!
SOOOO helpful. Thanks! Killer app and vid demo. Great work.
Thanks for this! Will try.
Tap to focus on an external monitor is an absolute game changer! And with very little latency as well. Don't even need a dedicated monitor anymore unless you want to record externally.
Do you have to pay for touch focus?
why is it not in the play store? APK download looks a bit suspicious... (chinese company trying to get access to our phones?)
Definitely will be useful for changing settings on the cam while using the tilta float
OMFG I needed this a few hours ago. THANK YOU!!!
Dude, this is nuts. Actually a little bit life changing 😂 will defo be copping this!
And it connects?! All the features are dope but if it actually stays connectedd thats awesomeeee. Going to check it out. Great video thanks!
