    Great topics!
    (And, unless you were talking about a specific donut, the two types of donuts are cake and yeast. Brioche is a type of bread, typically made with lots of eggs to give it a more yellow appearance than the average white bread.)

      Thanks for clarifying! Yes I definitely meant "yeast" when I said "brioche". I feel like I've heard people refer to donuts that way before so I just assumed they were correct 🤣

    I think the Sage owner wants to stay on brand with the idea that oh, by eating here, you're doing a GOOD thing! So she doesn't want to say that she was forced to sell out her principles because then people don't feel like eating there is a positive moral choice that can't be said about other places

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  Před měsícem +1

      You're absolutely right. This is the tactic of most ex-vegans, at least the public ones. They can't just go from being perceived as "moral" to "immoral," so they have to make a moral argument that, in their mind, trumps the moral argument for veganism.

    any plans on making another live - maybe telling your vegan story, what you look forward to this summer, 2024, ideas on how vegans can help bring forth more good vegan news, etc.?

      This is such a timely comment--I'm planning to go live again this Friday!! Going to announce it most likely later today. I have a few topics in mind but love all of your suggestions!! Will probably be mid-late afternoon, like 4-6-ish. Let me know if that's a time that's good for you!

    I used to think it was okay to conflate political and social issues with veganism, but now I can see it never works out in the long term. Eventually some major influencer changes their views and dumps on veganism and pushes their own agenda over it. So, all the people in this for animal-rights get shoved to the back of the bus because frankly, they never cared about the horrors done to animals. We should put animal-rights at the forefront. If people get improved health or a cleaner environment, then that's a bonus but it's not something we should discuss or "join up with". We should be trying to push for every store that sells animal products to be playing a video of animals being abused, brutally put down, just like a pack of cigarettes comes with a warning label. People should be taught and shown where the food they eat comes from. So, I'm for protesters showing graphic video outside of restaurants and supermarkets as a form of protest.
    I'm for influencers and protest leaders going into 4-12 grades plus colleges to give talks and presentations to students showing graphic, horrific animal agriculture footage. Frankly the most effective form of protest is showing people the hard truth. The main reason people don't go vegan is that the food they buy is completely separated from the act of murder that happens. People can't change if they can't get informed.

    I'm still adjusting to livestreams - youtube doesn't separate out casual chat from what's a video chat, leading to a lot of scrolling (because that's one thing youtube is unfortunately good at). So because they'll do nothing to fix the issue - I will. If I put "UUU' in front of a comment - it means unrelated, because a lot of what I wrote was just casual chat unrelated to the video.

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  Před měsícem +1

      This is such a great idea! And yes it can get difficult for me to sort through side chats vs discussion about the topics. Love that people get into casual chat (aside from the trolls 😏) but I like your idea of marking it as such.

      @@TotallyForkable feel free to do the callout for letting people add the UUU - to know to ignore it - so everyone follows it - if you want. You can use whatever ideas I have.
      Yes - I agree - casual chat is key to chat success lol

    The Matthew Kenney news is so disappointing. I really enjoyed his restaurants that I visited. I also think about the incredible expense that goes into renovating these restaurants. Now they are a new place with new decor. So much waste.

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  Před měsícem +1

      You're so right about the waste. Also, for the most part, the people running day-to-day operations at the restaurants are absolutely lovely, and the food is great. What a shame that due to a seeming complete refusal to get organized at the upper levels, all the rest has to suffer!

    • @sandram852
      @sandram852 Před měsícem

      @@TotallyForkable100 percent. It also makes it look like Vegan restaurants are not a good investment. It seems even deeper than him not getting organized. This guy is pulling a Ponzi scheme to fuel his extravagant lifestyle and ego. Take half of what his investors put in to open a restaurant and run off with the other half that was meant to go into the business. His actions are deplorable and a real shame to the vegan community.

    Utilitarianism. It's a good thing to understand because they claim markets form the best utility in distribution of goods and services.
    Your argument is anti-market therefore, anti-utilitarian, at least to the extent that prevailing economics is based upon the notion that markets supply the greatest good for the most people.
    The restaurateurs are expanding there market by including meat on the menu. Looking for all that lost date night revenue to the mixed couples who don't follow the same dietary strictures.

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  Před měsícem

      Most "mixed" couples I know, especially the ones who live in LA, go to vegan spots for date nights. I have gone on a date with a non-vegan guy AT Sage in fact. I highly doubt people were avoiding it because it's vegan. This is LA where most people have vegan cuisine in their rotation because it's trendy and delicious.
