i absolutely love the creature from the black lagoon in such a sad trilogy of movies. but my all time favorite is the wolf man. im sad they never did the universal monster movie reboots right. i really hope we get the other sequels and vs movies in box sets too
I love the Creature from the Black Lagoon. I also loved The Wolf Man from Volume 1. Lon Chaney Jr is my favorite Universal horror actor.
He played The Wolfman, Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Mummy.

Yes, they need to get rid of the cardboard sleeve holders. I’m afraid I’m going to scratch the discs every time I take them out.
Lol!!! Yes, but like I explained it’s Universals thing lol!! Good news is at least with how many dozens of times I have taken each of them out to watch & test each disc none of them have gotten scratched or damaged, so at least that puts my mind more at ease! I do like how they look on the shelf together now & I am excited to see what next 4 monster titles they release next year.

Great review as always. I still only have blu ray capability. I will buy it for my future 4k upgrade. Sadly, I wish they would put the 4k scan on the blu ray as well.
Yah, that’s what I was mentioning too, even though I only really watch the 4K discs I would preferred to have the new 4K restorations at least put into new standard Blu rays instead of the old Blu rays! But on a positive note that’s probably why this new 4K set doesn’t cost $100 or more because they Keep the cost down by only doing the new 4K restorations on the 4K discs lol!!! 🤣 But hopefully soon you will be able to watch & enjoy these new 4K discs, are you saving up to buy a new tv or 4K player hopefully this Christmas?

I was skimming through Creature and was really impressed but I noticed an issue. Toward the end when they’re in the cave, whenever the camera pans and follows someone moving quick, the background gets pixelated.
does creature from the black laggon include the 3d bluray?
The version of this box-set I bought arrived in black plastic 4K cases, not cardboard -- (and without the blurays.) So although the front artwork on the box looks EXACTLY the same as your youtube video, when I open it there are no cardboard sleeves as seen in your video. I get a standard black 4K plastic case, with 2 plastic trays inside. "The Mummy" is placed on the first tray, the "Bride Of Frankenstein" is on the flipside of the first tray, then "The Phantom of The Opera" is on the 2nd tray, and finally "Creature From The Black Lagoon" is on the rear of the second tray. (NO blurays at all, so only x4 discs total -- all 4K). I'm not bothered about having the blurays, I don't need them. The Universal code on the back of the artwork is 1000820331. I must say, I do envy your artwork on the cardboard version, (as its so pretty), and I don't have any of that on my set, but I am so much happier that EACH DISC is placed in soft black plastic 4K cases.
Great review; was the bride’s audio fixed in 4K? The soundtrack was always muffled or even absent in the Blu-ray releases, but I read that when they were working on 4K they supposedly fixed that can you verify that?
Also, I think you need to take the age of the individual films in consideration when you look at the degree of restoration. A film like the mummy always looked bad, partially due to its age relative to the other films in the collection.
Yes, I cover all of this in detail in this video, especially talking about the age of the films & the condition of the original film elements & how old the mummy is. All of this was covered & included in this video! Also as I explained it’s better sounding than the Blu Ray audio, clearer & easier to understand!

some digital copy services do include extra features. Movies Anywhere seems to include the most extra features. Apple also includes some extra features . But I agree physical media is the only way to be sure you have all the extras available.

Do you plan on doing a review for the new release of Arsenic and old lace on blu ray. That blu ray release should have been done years ago. That film is a classic.
I love arsenic & old lace but I haven’t gotten the new Blu Ray release yet so I am not sure if I am going to cover it or include it in a compilation video!

4K DISK are MANUFACTURED to be MORE SCRATCH RESISTANT!
All of your screenshots have the 4K’s significantly brighter than the Blu Rays. Every time I compare pic quality the 4K’s are always darker looking than the Blu’s. Any idea why that is??
I have talked about this a ton over the years in videos here on my CZcams Channel! These images are ALWAYS the native 4K & Blu ray images present on these discs. So what your comment tells me is that your 4K Player & 4K TV is not properly displaying the HDR image & that you definitely need to have your 4K TV professionally or properly calibrated so that when you are watching the actual discs on your home 4K TV & 4K player it’s not constantly over darkening the HDR image!
As I have explained before, 4K UltraHD is a much more detailed & heavily changed format that’s heavily based on the type of equipment you use, if it’s professionally calibrated & also for example if you have & are using a lower end 4K TV & PS4,PS5, Xbox type 4K player those do not display 4K UltraHD content at the highest level & can drastically darken, change & hinder your perceived image & overall experience of 4K UHD discs! I have talked about this subject a lot over the years in previous videos! There are dozens of setting on your 4K tv that are usually enabled already on your TV when you buy it from the store & they will make the image for HDR content look much darker than they are intended or supposed to look! Also the reason you are thinking the 4K is darker than the old Blu Ray simply tells me that your equipment is not setup professionally or properly & when 4K HDR content is being enabled it simply turning on the darker setting for your TV & Player. If you watch a bunch of my videos I have explain even more in depth about this exact subject & why this is a common issue for a lot of people that buy 4Ks & don’t realize they are viewing the 4K content incorrectly due to their equipment!
What 4K player are you using to watch 4Ks on?
Thank u for ur response, this was the first video on ur channel I have watched so I apologize if it’s a topic u have discussed repeatedly….I have a 75inch Sony X90J 4K TV and a Sony 4K player, not sure the model # unfortunately….I’ve looked up calibration settings online and applied them to my TV. Blu Rays look phenomenal but the 4K’s always look dark even during brighter scenes. I go back/forth between discs and usually always prefer the Blu’s especially when the 4K’s come with newly remastered Blu’s.
@@JaketheSnakePlissken Sure glad this helped you ! But your reply clearly tells me you definitely have something drastically wrong on your 4K tv & player because most 4K HDR content should look drastically better in contrast, clarity & colors over a lot of previous Blu Rays. The HDR color gamut is massive compared to the small color gamut for Blu Ray content too! Hope this helps you, but you definitely need to have your equipment professionally calibrated or fixed because you are not seeing a proper 4K HDR image!
I figured out what the issue is and it’s much simpler than I anticipated luckily. My TV was calibrated correctly, I didn’t realize however that the lights in the room need to be off or very low to truly get the 4K experience. I usually watch movies with the lights on as to prevent myself from getting tired. When the lights are on the image looks very dark. When they’re off wowza! The 4K is stunning!
The 4 movies from last year's box set have just been released individually in standard cases (the individual releases last year were steelbooks). I'm assuming these 4 will also get standard case releases next fall. I think I'll wait for those. I've already had to replace two of the discs from last year's set because of issues with skipping, which I'm attributing to those dreaded cardboard sleeves.
To bad Creature from the Black Lagoon's not the 3D version. It was 3D in the theater and the Blu Ray was the first time it came home in 3D. I guess they won't be releasing it that way as no one has a 3D TV anymore. I own the Blu Ray and watching it this way just enhances the experience.
I used to have a 3D tv but after I upgraded the last few times they had stopped making them in the higher end premier 4K TV models! Though to be honest I never really enjoyed 3D movies that much, but each person has different preferences & that’s perfectly fine too!

Some still use it. I've 3D still. Have a few great titles - Smurfs, Angry Birds, Yogi Bear. All really good releases. Some others are The Force Awakens, Alita Battle Angel, Inside Out.
Might pickup I Robot, as it happens to be full frame in 3D, but is only fair 3D they say.
@@RyanBetker Yeah I kept my old 2k 1080p 3D TV just for that reason. I'm not a fan of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy but I know that Last Jedi & Rise of Skywalker were both released in Japan on 3D Blu Ray 4k combo.
@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia I like both Bride of Frankenstein and Creature from the Black Lagoon in that set. Bride I think is a good example of when you have a talented Director let loose and allowed to do what he wants without studio interference. Kinda like Tim Burton's Batman Returns. With Creature I just like looking at Julie Adams 😉.
The bluray in this set is 3D. You can choose between 2D and 3D.
Very nice, detailed reviews. I will be picking this up via the link you have, but you STILL drive me NUTS by putting the 4K vs. Bluray, on the wrong sides. We read from left to right, meaning I would expect the I,proved image on the RIGHT side of the screen, not the left. Nitpicks? Maybe, but it gets me every time….

Not meaning this to sound like I am telling you off just explaining again so you might understand better., 😉As I have shared before & to address the rest of your comment, I create & make each of these videos how it works BEST when filming, editing & holding the boxed sets due to my severe chronic nerve damage & pain, so there is “NO WRONG WAY” that I choose to create my own videos because it’s MY hard work behind each of these & I am not paid to do this job! I am also spending weeks of hard work creating each of these videos & I am not required or forced to work on each of these videos as long or as hard as I do!

Never really liked the Remake of the Phantom of the Opera with Claude Rains.
The Silent Version with Lon Chaney is much better.
