I appreciate it, obrigado!!
I really loved the format of this video! Breaking down the words, allowing the audience to say the word phrase before repeating it twice and showing real life examples. It was really helpful! I’d appreciate more videos like this ! Thank you!
Great, thank you for the feedback! More will come!!
I'm french and this video allow me not only to learn the basics of brazilian Portuguese, but also to improve my english pronunciation 😂
Do you feel like the pronunciations in Portuguese are similar to Frensh?
As a native Arabic speaker, I am interested in learning both and to my untrained ear they sound closer to each other than lets say, english as an example.
@@stevensen6541 Actually I feel the opposite, it's sooo different. But I understand that when you don't know well the languages you can hear similarities between the two. I used to hear similarities in Spanish and Portuguese, but now that I know a bit of both, I'm shocked with how totally different it is
@@fandelapin2971 Yeah , maybe I will change my opening as I learn more.
Merci mon ami, and good luck on your journey!
Thank you for this lesson! I’m moving to Brazil in a few months, and I’m trying to learn as much as I can!

Thank you for this! My issue with the other tutorials, they go way to fast to be a beginners video. I told them to. You’re a great teacher and I love your style of teaching this language. I have a strong southern accent which makes me sound silly speaking Spanish. lol! I love the Portuguese language and really want to learn. Por favor keep making videos!! Obrigado! 😊
I appreciate it Tammy! Yes, I agree that it's important to go super slow in order to properly learn pronunciation...you'll see that in the next few lessons as well!

Yes Andrew Please make more videos like this
Thank you Norah, I will!
Please don't stop making these videos. I am a beginner and your videos are helpful. I will like to know more about verbs. Thank you
Thank you! I have these two videos about verb conjugation: czcams.com/video/Mii9OopUePg/video.html
czcams.com/video/0_upIcwcE-g/video.html
I REALLY enjoyed this video! I have been using an app (Babel) to learn Portugeus and I also hired a tudor, which has all been wonderful: however, the way he patiently and methodically explained how to property pronounce certain words/sounds REALLY helped me! For example, how to pronounce the p and t in Português! I loved it. Eu amo.
Question: when is it fala or falar? Example: He said, "I want to speak" is "Eu quero falar." Falar with R at end. But in the app, when the sentence is "I only speak English" it's "Eu só falo inglês." So, when is it eu falar and eu falo???
Glad you enjoyed it Derek! I have an entire video on verb conjugations which should make it clearer for you: czcams.com/video/Mii9OopUePg/video.html
This is wild. I never noticed the differences in K in kid and the soft k sound.
Alot more videos, Please 🙏🏽
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!!
yo, these lessons are great for focusing on pronunciation, which helps with comprehension as well!
💯🙏
Super helpful video, thank you for pronouncing the words slowly. I never noticed the subtle d sound in "quero"
Glad it was helpful Drew!
Wowww! I have been learning spanish for 4 months. I understood most of what you spoke without translation. Portuguese sounds so cool
That's awesome! Yeah, Spanish will definitely make the learning process a lot quicker
@@DecodingWordswithAndrew thank you. i am going to start learning portugues parallely slowly. and i love your teaching method
great to hear that :)
ANDREW....this is excellent. Do you have videos of English for Brazilians with the same detailed approach??.....please let me know.
I appreciate it! Unfortunately no, I don't teach English
estoy aprendiendo español ahora mismo porque yo la necesito para mi trabajo. estudio un poquito de portugués tambien y se parece como español. Espero que podré hablar con fluidez en ambas idiomas pronto.
buena suerte!!
It is best wey to learn language
thank you!
Eu quero um samba feito so pra mim!
❤
First off I'll say that I like your teaching style. It's very clear and concise. Audio and Video is of great quality! My question is, how much is transferrable to European Portuguese? or do you have recommendation for learning this? I like your teaching methods!
Hey Andrew, I appreciate that! In Portugal, people generally have very little problem understanding Brazilian Portuguese since they get so much exposure to it through Brazilian movies, tv shows, music, CZcamsrs, etc. So if you learn the Brazilian variety well, you’ll be easily understood in Portugal. Now being able to understand them easily often requires an additional step of learning the main differences in pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary between the two, but there are tons of videos out there about this topic. Ultimately, they’re just two varieties of the same language and for the most part you’d be able to get by just fine in Portugal if you learned Brazilian Portuguese.
@@DecodingWordswithAndrew Thank you for the insite!
Do you teach lessons? This is awesome!
I don't offer lessons, but stay on the look out for more videos like this!
Coming back to this and wanted to see if that intuition you briefly touched upon in a comment you left in lesson 2 is guiding me in the right direction.
(Google translate seems to not be the best for brazilian portuguese)
@9:49 Eu quero muito fazer means "I really want to do"
If I wanted to say "I really don't want to do" would it be translated to portuguese as "Eu nao muito fazer"?
Additionally if we were to be more descriptive and take "Eu quero fazer muito mais" and say... "I really don't want to do more"
Would it translate as 'Eu nao quero fazer muito mais"?
or does it start getting into exceptions territory?
Yes, all you do is add "não" before the verb to negate. I wouldn't use Google Translate, it will often give you the translation in standard, written Portuguese, rather than how a native speaker would say naturally say it in a casual conversation. A better resource is using an AI tool like ChatGPT or Claude (I use Claude) and ask it "How to say X in colloquial Brazilian Portuguese".
Another great tool to see how a specific phrase is used in context is www.filmot.com. Let's say you wanted to see the phrase "Eu não quero muito fazer" in context. All you do is enter that in the search box and it will give you a list of CZcams videos that contain that phrase in its captions. This is an extremely useful tool if you're ever wondering "Do people actually say X?" or "How is X used in the real world?" Hope this helps!
Mixing this with Dualingo, i think im on the right path
Welcome and best of luck on your Portuguese journey! My channel is here to help you
Very clear but I want ask a question. When you say I really want to go why not eu muito quero ir instead of eu muito quero ir. Thank I will be happy if you reply. New subscriber from Nigeria
In Portuguese, the "muito" always has to go after the verb
This was such a nice and fun lesson to follow along thank you so much.
Also quick question the sentence structure change a bit when we are saying "really like"
I thought it would direct translate to English " Because I really Like the language"
Which I was expecting to be "Porque eu Muito Gosto da lingua"
but it is "Porque eu Gosto Muito da Lingua" which in " Because I like really the language" ?
The word order in Portuguese is different from English in this case....the "muito" always follows the verb
@@DecodingWordswithAndrew Thank you so much. Muito Obrigado !
de nada!
Seems like sentence are built linear as in English..
I notice in Spanish some phrases or sentences are sort of spoken “backwards”
Anyone got a link to that quero ser feliz tambem version he clipped?
Just search "Quero ser feliz tambem" on CZcams and you'll get tons of videos

I did'nt realize the pronunciation was so important. You throw a whole new light on it .m.uito Obrigado
IMO it's one of the most neglected aspects
