Excellent video! I have never found it easy learning languages but this video is the best starting point I have found; interesting, useful and actually enjoyable. I am picking up the words quite quickly but really struggling with the pronunciation, especially the Portuguese 'r' sound! But thanks so much for giving me the confidence and belief to keep going!
Eu amo Potuguês! É um legal language.
Welcome back! There's an error at @10:13 the phrase is "Excuse me, where is the toilet" but the translation below says "Hello, do you speak English"

Hi. I just discovered your channel yesterday and it is very helpful. I will be visiting Portugal next year May! I have partial Portuguese ancestry from Azores, Lisbon, and Guarda based on genetic cousin matches. I speak conversational Italian and French and I used to speak nearly fluent Spanish. I think Portuguese will be challenging but I am eager to learn! I also think I will revert to speaking Italian or Spanish if I don’t know how to say something in Portuguese. When I was in Italy I would occasionally use Spanish words as I didn’t know the word in Italian! But I was understood.
Glad you like our channel 😊 it’s true that knowing other Latin based languages can make it a bit confusing as there are similarities but also significant differences that sometimes we don’t expect to find. On the other hand, it will also come in handy when learning Portuguese given the fact that some of the vocabulary is similar or the same! Also there’s many aspects in common when it comes to grammar 😀
My advice to anyone visiting Portugal is to try and speak as much Portuguese as possible (this will win you some brownie points with the natives) and any words you don’t know refer back to your other Latin based languages - it doesn’t work all the time, but it works often enough 😁 Have an amazing time in Portugal 🤗
I like you my beautiful teacher ❤obrigado
You're welcome 😊

Thank you for a great lesson! It was a pleasant surprise that you visited Ukraine because I am from Ukraine, and I dream of living in Portugal for at least six months, but unfortunately, it is not possible now. However, there is time to learn Portuguese, and with your help, it is always interesting. Thank you once more!
Im very happy to know our Portuguese videos are helping you learn the language and will get you close to achieve your dream of living there one day. Bons estudos! 🤗
Olá ❤❤❤❤
The word "desculpe" could be changed by "perdão"...similar to "pardon" in english or french...I think it's easier to remember and have those same meanings.
tysm im portugeese but ive never learnt it
It’s never too late 😉 Bons estudos!
Happy to see you finally back, we want to hear you speak all português less english, like other CZcamsrs, more advanced stuff please
Stay tuned 😉
❤
could you please do a more advanced Portuguese videos as for i am not a beginner. I want to know the language fluently
You’ll be happy to know there’ll be more advanced “lessons” coming up soon 😉
Can you pls tell me the difference between desculpe and desculpa? Also, thanks a lot for the video!
Desculpe you should to use with people you don’t know, older ones and in formal settings. Desculpa you can use with family, friends, children - so in informal settings. They are both forms of the Imperative Mode, but desculpe follows the the pronouns você, o senhor or a senhora which may be omitted. Desculpa follows the pronoun tu. Hope this helps 🙂
Hi Carla ❤️ Could you please help with basic pronunciation? Words so simple as “a faka” “a casa” “a vaca” - which “a” should be spelled as “e” and which as “a”?
I’m trying to hear it in different sources and everytime I hear something else 😂❤
Olá Joanna 😊
So the first “a” in those words is an open one, like the English “ah” sound”. And the second one is the closed one - similar to the sound “uh” as in “duh “🤦🏽♀️
I’m sure you pronounce my name, Carla, that way: open “a “ first and closed “a” last. So it’s exactly the same with the 3 words you mentioned. Hope this helps 🤗
@@portuguesewithcarla Thank you so much for you reply! It helps! 🤗
And what about the sound of an article „a”? Should it sound like „ah” or „eh”? ☺️
@@joanna8852 glad it helped 🙂 it’s more like the “uh” in “duh🙄” , but when followed by a word starting with an “a” as well you need to merge them together and it will open up and become more like an “ah” 👍🏽
Hello, I intend to visit Angola-Luanda whose formal national language is Portoguese. There, which is dominant as accent or characteristic? Portuguese or Brazillian? Can you enlight me about this? Thank you.
I hope you enjoy your visit there 😊 At schools Portuguese from Portugal is the one taught. But Angolans have their own accent and slang. There are a few aspects of the day to day language where it might be closer to Portuguese from Brazil though. Olá Carla! Ive been studying European Portuguese for 3 yrs & Im ready for a speaking partner (Id help them w/English; Im based in USA ) - Ive had no luck on Italki,X, Facebook or IG. Any ideas ? Obrigada.
Olá Kelly 🙂 it seems like you’ve tried almost everything. I would probably keep insisting, someone suitable is bound to come up on those platforms. Another idea is AI speaking partner? Perhaps you could look it up and see if that’s for you. We have 3 articles on our blog about artificial intelligence you might find interesting: portuguesewithcarla.com/category/resources/
Sou nativo da língua portuguesa ,posso tee ajudar a desenvolver sua conversação no português.
@kellysimmons I'm native portuguese speaker ,i can help out with portuguese talk.
Where ya been!?
You’re right 😅 but this way we had some time to do quite a bit of recording so watch this space 😜
The m in 'Bom' and 'Sim', is it like an n-sound, a -ng sound or like a french n? Or more like an "unfinished" m? Don't know how else to describe it. I find it hard to see or hear what's technically going on
Hi there 👋🏽 I would personally describe it as the “ng” in the English word “sing”, for example. So you pronounce the final Portuguese “m” as you would the “ng”, but you stop yourself before you get to the “g” - hope that helps 😀
@@portuguesewithcarla Thank you, that's a good explanation
Hello there, everyone! My name is Eliana, I'm a 33-year-old Brazilian English teacher, I'm currently living in Japan, and I'm looking for another woman whose first language is English to have conversations through Zoom with for us to practice speaking each other's languages. We can read books and discuss them or talk about topics of our interest. I like to talk about cultures, self-development, pets, cooking, hobbies, friendships, family, movies, songs, and etc. We can do calls once a week, maybe, and divide them into 2 parts, one for English and one for Portuguese. I really look forward to building a good friendship with my conversation partner. If you're interested, please let let me know replying to this comment and I'll get in touch with you. ☺️

Thank you. Someone else had already pointed that out to us. But I’m afraid we can’t change it now. Anyway, well spotted 😉
