Scot Mandel Exactly. It’s a team sport, and the Viking’s defense did not prevent the Atlanta offense from scoring, and the Vikings offense couldn’t score in Overtime.
As a Broncos fan this makes me appreciate having a kicker who was clutch all post season long this year and also having one during our first 2 SB's. Losing big games because of a missed field goal probably hurts much worse than being blown out in a big game i'd imagine. I feel for ya Vikings fans, hopefully clutch kicks are in your future.

All these comments are whack. Let's not forget, when Gary Anderson missed the score was still Vikings 27 - 20. The DEFENSE let Atlanta march right down the field and tie the game. Then the DEFENSE let Atlanta drive for the game winning field goal. The DEFENSE let Minnesota down. The offense didn't help in OT either.
Morten Andersen (who made the winning FG in OT in this same game) just got inducted into the Hall of Fame. Gary Anderson is right up there with Morten in the all-time stats and was a two-time NFL All-Decade team member just like he was. I think this missed FG is the main reason he has never gotten serious consideration for the Hall of Fame, which is a shame.
Maybe instead of blaming the kicker, you should blame the right side of that field goal line, collapsed harder than an old person getting their walker kicked out

And then, the Vikings complete collapse defensively after the miss. They are a snakebitten, woeful team that I couldn't bear to root for after the 2000 NFC Title game skunking. They are too heartbreaking.
I feel you man. Bad drafting post Moss and Culpepper fucked up progression. AP and the Allen trade helped out, but never put MN over the hump. Next year #SKOL
Look at the line when Anderson kicks, the right side just collapses and there's 3 Falcons in the backfield. Maybe he was trying to avoid getting it blocked by them coming from the right side, but went too far?
Well, after today, roughly 18 years later, some of that weight has been lifted off of Gary Anderson's shoulders and placed on another kicker. The scorn of an entire fan base is no longer Gary's to bear alone, it seems.
Something that hardly anyone notices is that a Falcons player come free on the right side of the line and leaping towards Anderson. That must have made him try to slice the kick through as much as he could towards the left upright and the ball sailed to far too the left. Who knows, had he kicked it right down the center of the line,it may have been blocked or it might have barely flew by the Falcons player and it would've been good. Plus, the Falcons should've been called for running into the kicker!
