To get the freshest, Ocean Wide Certified, 100% sustainable rainbow trout, start off with a trip to Hamilton’s Fish Farm in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia.
The skin has its own flavour. Crisp skin makes it so good. Keep it with the fish
Made this in a stainless steel pan (no anti stick coating) and it was fantastic. Thanks for the tips!
This came out amazing using cast iron. All your tips and instruction made for a restaurant worthy meal at home. Thank you!
Trying this today! I never even tried trout before but I’m hoping my wife likes it! Thank you!
I made this as directed and everyone loved it. Thank you!
What a simple, enjoyable, and classic recipe. Thanks dude, from Southern Cali
Thank you for the tutorial. I followed it tonight and they came out great!
Looks so delicious thanks I’ll cook some now thanks chef
I made this tonight with my wild-caught trout. It was amazing! It didn't last long :) Thanks for sharing
I cooked my trout on a cast iron skillet and seasoned it with kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, and lemon pepper and used butter to Prevent the trout from sticking the pan it was pretty tasty
Excellent recipe!! Thank you!
Straight forward recipe. Fantastic
I love your recipe it’s so simple thanks for sharing.. I went fishing 🎣 and caught 2 rainbow trout with my four year old daughter. We’re about to cook them and imma follow your recipe. She’s coo excited
Recipe? He just added two fingers of salt.😅😅😅
Lol “and your just going to forget about it” then proceeds to poke it and move it around 🤣
I used your recipe and it was outstanding! Thank you!
Chef Chris, I didn't have any lemon, so I substituted with the juice of an orange.
It was very tasty!
I used the same seasonings on my Sugar Snap Peas, which was a great accompaniment.
Again, thank you for your tips!

Yummmm, how delish does this look!!!!! I was off to the store and saw rainbow trout was on special. I rarely cook fish because it wont behave when I try lol, so I thought ill just have a quick look for a pan fried trout recipe and this was the first one I saw and clicked on, and perfect!!! I'll swap out the herbs for fresh garlic, and a bit of lemon juice. Looking forward to making this and shoving it in my face hole lol, thanks Chris. Watched from Perth West Aust :).
Thanks! very clear explanation!
That looks absolutely beautiful.
Made this tonight. Fantastic! Thanks, broseph.
Nice recipe video sharing
It was super good!
The skin came off just as you showed. I don't have fresh parsley, but I do have fresh basil. I will give that a try and hope it taste good. Thanks!
In the Land of fish and floods of butter! Well done, Chris. Brill.
An excellent technique. I’ve used it twice now with rainbow trout, in a well-cured cast iron pan. The first time, exactly as done in the vid; the second time, the same, but I didn’t have thyme so i used tarragon and added minced fresh garlic, as you suggest. I highly recommend tarragon (and garlic) for this method. It was delicious. Thanks for the informative vid.
PS I love the Maritimes - in fact my sister and her husband just moved to NS last week. Next time I’m down east i will make a point of checking out your establishment.
Taragon is better I agree.
Awesome video man ! I’m in Cheticamp and always catch nice big rainbows
And if you want you can eat the skin. If done right it can be nice and crispy and in my opinion very delicious
You make trimming the skin look ridiculously easy. I suspect there were many butchered attempts before that smooth technique was mastered!😁
That’s why I leave the skin on 😂
My dad taught me to let the knife do all the work
Fillet knives are at Walmart in the fishing section for $5.
@@PackerFan52
And hammers are in the hardware section for $20. Buying one doesn't make you a carpenter.
@@christineshotton824 Not sure where you shop but that’s def not America😂 Facebook market place bro for $5 US😉
Love Trout Fillets
Although I don’t and wouldn’t normally prepare my trout this way as an angler, I learned a key point here. I have been over powering the flavor of my fish and am going to try to use more minimal seasonings. I think on the BBQ I will stick to my brown sugar mountain rub 😊
I was gifted with a lake salmon from a lake in NW Montana. I filleted it and need to cook it properly. And yes I have butter and cast iron! Imma gonna cook and eat the skin tho.
Wow best trout recipe I ever had You need to do more recipes
But the skin is just delicious
Beautiful!!
Yum
Nice!
Took amazing.
Good job chef.
Excellent video. The production values were outstanding.
But just curious as to why you would remove the skin from the trout?
I know i love the skins too.
Restaurant presentation. The golden brown color. All the good stuff is in the skin.
10/10
Thanks. I got 7 we’re eating for supper tonight
“Fill-et” “H-erbs” 😂
He's Canadian. Proper pronunciation there (and the UK and Australia) is fill-it and herb. You've proved yourself to be the fool in this scenario.
are there no bones? i was just given 4 small, cleaned trouts. they look great and the heads and tails are off. i always thought it was ok to fry with the skin on.
It’s farmed fish? Or that the name of some company . Looked delicious
No link to the "Fish Spatula" ?? You are slipping. 😁😁
Good recipe. Thanks
the difference between table salt and sea salt is just that its ground and they add iodine. they both have the same amount of microplastic
What kind of oil? Olive or veg?
Following...
Season? Where?
Skin is the best part
Was that olive oil or any does any oil work?
Olive oil's the best, you can always use it in combination with butter
I have never tried this before...fried trout
What oil did he use at first
What brand of pan is that
FRY THAT SKIN!!!!!!! ❤
I like my rainbow But the last 3 years i have been fishing brook trout And getting avg 4 to 9 lbs I fillet mine with bones in Add coarse salt And brown sugar And about 6 drops of liquid smoke with foil with poked holes for 12 hours Then pull the bones (more easy less damage)
Then drain the fluids and get the pan up with butter And after i cook my fish I add Wild ramps to the pan Black pepper This gives the meal the garlic and onion taste Add in chunks of semi cooked potato from my pickling jars on to the pan ..It started 40 years ago with my father And a camp fire And 1 cast iron pan Now when i do 1800kms drives to the West coast I spend a extra day just fishing
Where's the garlic and onion? And why would you trim the belly?
And why would you take the skin off?!
This is a kid who has too much money to spend on farmed rainbow trout, he don't need no belly meat i guess.
@@VroomTech Ain't nobody got time for that

How many minutes per side?
At first, I was thinking, this guy is way to young to be a chef. It only took 3 minutes to convince me he's legit.
Can I do this with the skin on? I like the skin.
I subscribed
Best get rid of the gas stove... Just kidding... Great Video 🐠
Damn, Taking of the skin is so hard when raw, even my best knife cant cut trough!
as soon as u took the skin off u lost me
It's a professional step. Personal preference. Please leave it on if you prefer. No need to get lost or anything:)
@@ezrajohn4071help!!... i can't find my way back.... after he took the skin off
He came to seek and save the lost. Jesus is His name 😊
Thank you for saving me 3 minutes.
Blessings in an abundance of the faith. I salute you. 😘🙏✝️🕯️💕💯👣🗞️ Grace and peace be unto you and to this place. Thank you Father God for rainbow trout. I was lost and now I am found. Believe it or not, realizations about God came while catching and eating rainbow trout. 🙂🥰 Thank you for sharing this. Will you believe and receive Jesus Christ as your lord and personal saviour??? I do. Amen 🙏
Its better on the grill skinside down with garlic butter onion and chef paul.
The skin is the best part of trout.

It was Hitler's Favourite Food.
How is it oceanwise when its a fresh water fish?
Sounds ocean stupid to me!
Wow people from different ethnic backgrounds cook so different bc people of color do not cook without seasoning! and impossible w/o pepper.
Garlic on rainbow trout (!)... NOT, but parmesan is great.
Bro pronounced it fill-et it’s actually pronounced fill-ay
Dats rite
In the UK it’s fillet. Not fillay
@@benlepoidevin7047 you have to understand I'm from LA,... lower Alabama USA 🇺🇸 yeeee haaaawww
Prep the trout???
I didn't know you can catch a trout already fileted
I like skin on
Rarely do I see trout in supermarkets anymore. Disappointing.
If you have an Aldis near by, they sell Trout. Just bought some a couple of days ago. Trying this recipe now.
@@nikonladyd4509 We don't have them in New Mexico, unfortunately.
He did not just pronounce the T in filet
He's Canadian. Proper pronunciation there (and the UK and Australia) is fill-it. You've proved yourself to be the fool in this scenario.
Never been a fan of fillets when it comes to trout. Cooked correctly you should be able to pull the back tail upwards and away from the fish once finished, allowing for no bones and no waste. So so wasteful when they fillet it. Also, the Skin is the tastiest part of the trout in my opinion.
Why take the skin off? It is great left on.
why remove skin
Garlic taste weird in trout
this guys shit come to toronto well show you how a real seafood restaurant cooks trout with SKIN OFF!!😂
The worst thing you can do to a nice fresh trout is remove the skin and belly. You're a chef?
1:28 - Inside flesh down first because that's our presentation side.
Lmao, most of us aren't making this for a restaurant. Who cares about the presentation side lol
I always try to make my food look good. Then I'm more excited about it. In fact there's a german saying "Das Auge isst mit" which means the eye eats with you and basically means that if your food looks good, you're more likely to find it being delicious. So yeah, of course it's not that important at home but why not looking at your plate and seeing something beautiful on there? It does kinda feel good :)
Mispronouncing fillets and herbs was a bit shocking but bon appetit.
TOOK THE SKIN OFF AND FKN RUINED IT!
yep, followed word for word. That was gross. had to throw it out
Where is the recipe? You just added two fingers of salt😂😂
simple recipe. salt, thyme, lemon, butter. he showed how to cook it too and cut it
Damn that meat looks so disgusting 🤢 outta the river so much better
he said fillet wrong... as a chef.
and 'hebs' where this guy coming from?
Depends where your from, the word fil-ay is French and does specifically mean a cut of fish. But the word fil-it comes from English and means a flat thin structure. So technically both are correct.
Farm fish no thanks
u took a nice, tasty, healthy, high protein, low fat, low calorie piece of lovely fish….. and cooked it in 3x the amount of butter and ruined all the flavor and all the health benefits.
Your poor nonstick pan
Fill-it….ugh! Pronounce it correctly or you’re not a chef!
Herbs…..the word is pronounced, ….erbs. The H is silent. You’re never gonna be a chef. 😜😜😜
Trout is so gross
Nah bruh u cannot take off the skin like that wtf🤮 that’s cold
