    He did not mention in the steps you have to put in your car year, make, and model, because perhaps you want to run this diagnostic on cars. I have had mine FIXD for over a year and I am very pleased with it. Yes, I have reset or cleared my check engine light with the item, but if you do not fix the ongoing problem it will come back on in a few hours or days. This is compatible with most cars, go to their website and you see a line to allow you to check for auto compatability. Love this item for its convenience, and possibilities of solving a problem, and it can clear a check engine light.

    Thank you for this video. Is there a monthly charge for using the app?

  • @PartsCounterGurus
    @PartsCounterGurus  Před 4 lety +1

    @Stephen McGraw when this video was released there were no additional fees. Since then they have added what they call "FIXD Premium" as an in app purchase for a cost of $69.99 a year or monthly for $8.99. If you are a DIY'er then you may only want the sensor which still reads codes without additional costs. If you are a technician working for yourself then it's probably worth it because you can join a community of technicians that offer notes and advice on repairs. If you navigate to your App Store you can find out anything you need to know about it.
    Please note that We are NOT affiliated with FIXD at all and only bought the sensor and reviewed the product for ourselves and our audience.

      FIXD States: You can leave the sensor plugged in all the time, as it uses very little power when not communicating with the app. If you leave your car sitting for more than 3 weeks, we recommend that you remove the sensor. For more FAQ’s .. click on this link: carhealthmonitor.com/fixd-faq

    Great (how to) video installing Fixd! How long does the car need to be running to complete from start to finish to get a complete diagnostic scan?? My potential issue is a recall from Fiat in regards to excess burning of oil! Do not like to run engine long when not in motion! At the moment they are testing vehicles for exact oil usage mileage and time!

    If I as running a parts house I'd be pushing these for the simple reason it would sell parts.
    A scan code is the start of a diagnosis, it does not mean a part indicated by the code is bad. So the Fixd owner does what I call the shotgun approach and buys parts until the code goes away or they get stuck and come see me. A real ASE master Technician.
    Nothing was better for me than having a parts house next door giving free scans. They sell the customer a part the customer looks at the part and realizes he or she is not set up to change the part. They come in from the parts house and say "Change this!" We give them a quote, they agree to it and we change the parts... problem is the code did not go away. it came back. The customer is hot wants to know why I charged him to change a part that did not fix the problem. I explain it to him, he has his own diagnosis and his own part. I did not charge for diagnosing the problem, just removing and replacing the part. He goes back to the parts house and throws a fit because electric parts are not returnable.
    Once in a while it might save you a few bucks but from what I understand this thing is a subscription service so I doubt it will save you anything.
    If all these schemes fixed cars I close my doors. :)

    • @PartsCounterGurus
      @PartsCounterGurus  Před 3 lety +2

      @RCWorks the subscription is not necessary to scan for codes. The subscription is only there as a choice to buy to assist the owner of the device in finding help from a community of "Master Technicians" like yourself to help guide them through a repair or recommend they go to a certified repair shop to resolve the issue if needed. If you are one who is capable of repairing the problem yourself then it would really pay for itself the first repair. Maybe you should contact FIXD and join that community to help people out and make a little extra $$$.

    This is not a useful tool for a mechanic. The inability to clear codes is regrettable because the alternative method of disconnecting the battery results in loosing essential data such as OBD monitors being set, or keep alive memory that is valuable in preventing the engine control processor from having to “relearn” things like idle settings.
    There are many disruptive “ads” that suggest calling a mechanic or nearby shop.
