    I've been a therapist for 44 years. Ryan is really onto something important here. Once you recognize something isn't as horrible as it appears to be, you can accept it and flow with it as a simple variation of human experience. Of course, there are degrees of discomfort that are very subjective. Take a toothache, on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst. Every one of us would let it get to us at a different level. Lots of things make us uncomfortable to varying degrees. But the more we're able to ride it out without stopping in our tracks, the better off we are. If you feel a cloudy day is 'bad' and a sunny day is 'good', you're going to be upset a lot of your life. But if a cloudy day is just another beautiful variation of a day, then it doesn't matter. DP/DR are benign variations of human experience. Accept it!

    Don't know if people are still watching this but i can confirm, DO NOT worry about depersonalisation. As soon as you start letting the feelings wash over you you will start to feel real again. Its a weird thought but you don't feel depersonalised until you think about feeling depersonalised. Have faith that you're not crazy, be confident that you're going to be alright and that these anxious feelings will pass, and are nothing more than that. You're fine and, and shit will be alright xx

      Brenden Stagg tbh bro i’ve been dealing with this shit recently and honestly he’s speaking the truth stop talking about at all start doing everything that you used to do and i know you may feel weird doing it and you feel like nothings real but it’s okay it’ll get better throughout time and whenever you feel depersonalized just ignore try do something think of something else. depersonalization only happens when you think about it remember that

    Today is November 30th, 2019... I've suffered DP/DR for the past year, it has been the most severe it ever has been. This came up in my recommended and I just felt this urge to watch it. It feels like it was meant for me. Today is the day I stop letting this control me. I wish you all the same. Let's move on with our lives and do the most we can with the time we have left.

    My heart go's out to people who have DP , I've been there before and I didn't have anxiety, now please try to get better, I've been full blown depersonalized and I forgot I was real, it wasn't pretty. Please you're as real as I am.

    I wanted to share a thought with you guys: If you broke your wrist, would you stop your life and only focus on the pain ? Or just keep living your normal life, feeling the pain but not caring about it ? Caring about it won’t change anything, it will just make it worse. If you just keep on living, your wrist will heal before you even realize it.

      Say Anxiety WHAT !!! Yea, im fine now actually. I was put on medication for my panic attacks tho but its only 10mg a night so i dont have side effects at all. (Im taking prozac btw) and my panic attacks are gone. But the thing is that when you start to recover, its almost like you forget that this happened to you. Like you legit just dont care anymore and its like you mind is like “forget about it” and just moves on. But thats just my experience. Sometimes when i think about it i fr laugh about it sometimes because i would think about it from time to time and and im just like “how tf did that even make sense” 😂😂 but hang on. I promise it gets better. Its not a forever thing although it seems like it. I was suicidal for a whole 2 months and now im back to normal. Just keep breathing and I promise youll be okay 💛

      Ashlon W. i’ve had mine for three months now and i’m worried it will never go away i try to get my mind off it but it literally comes into my brain at least once an hour and then i worry about it. idk how to explain it it just makes everything feel fake and like i’m in a simulation and like depth perception and time goes by weird..

    I've been suffering for 2 years and you came up on my recommendeds...you made me smile and laugh in relief. The similarities blew me away. The fare share of drugs, the internet searches, the pills and therapy... For 2 years... And you just gave me more relief from all this time I woke up every morning praying I wouldn't go thru it, avoided being in light so I don't see myself, closing my eyes when I walked past mirrors...I had so much difficulty looking into other peoples eyes even...this will be my last video I see and I will get better.     I've come back to this video 7 months after I was in a really bad depersonalisation episode. I can honestly say man, you changed my life for the better. When you stop letting it take over your every waking though, stop checking and let yourself live in the moment again, it feels like the 'old' you is back.     Hey! I just came here from a DPDR Self Help group on Facebook. I would say I am mostly recovered with a few hangups here and there which is why I stick around to try offer some insight. I just wanted to say that you are spot on! Accepting that it is only a symptom of anxiety, which was already constantly in my face in my research all along, is honestly what snapped me out! Accept what it is and do your best to move on! You have to really want it though, you can't be on the fence because that means you haven't accepted what it is and will continue on with the "what if"s in the back of your mind. Because I accepted that it was anxiety, I no longer felt the need to constantly find assurance and I eventually snapped out after moving on with my life. Thank you for contributions to the DPDR community, you are a rock star!

    Appreciate this video. I think the hardest part is the battle with your mind telling you it’s not anxiety/DP and that it’s something worse that you will never get over. Realizing that it’s just a protective mechanism of the brain and thinking of it that way helps a lot

    "when you get through this, which you will, you will never take another day for granted" damn that shit hit me hard. I think I have sort of the same experience as you and a lot of others, DP/DR after a weed panic attack, and often what gives me comfort is imagining what it feels like to feel better and thinking about how stupid I was taking it all for granted and not doing things that would make me happy because i was too scared, while here I am now feeling like I can't do anything to make myself happy. I know that as shit as DP/DR is, it has taught me how beautiful and precious feeling happy is, and I can't wait to be able to live life to the fullest and feel like a part of the world again. I even have a little list of all the stupid shit I'm gonna do when I'm better. So thank you for this video, for confirming that it will be as good as I hope. I hope you are doing well :)

    I watched this 2 years ago when i was going through it pretty bad. It lasted a few months till i came across this one and it made the most sense to me.       I'm 15 and the just some evidence that not caring about it makes it go, when i was 12-13 year old i expirienced it for the first time but thought nothing of it. I was scared but it just passed over and didnt happen for another 2 years. The next time it happened was a few months ago when i was at a club of 2000 people seeing the DJ Will Sparks and honestly i felt like i was on drugs or dying😂. I went outside and rang my mam and then it went away. The reason it stook from then is because i cared and obsessed over it but the reason i got it was from too much stress and worry. A tip for you since i am just a bit older than you is don't worry about anything at all. Every single thought you have, dont block it out, just relax your body breathe and let the thought pass!👍🏻😁

      @Christian im 19 and started happening after traumatic experience/abusive relationship. This is relieving for some but I believe people who was triggered into this by something need to feel through it and get professional help. Some people who experience this it really was triggered by a trauma and the brains way of protecting itself from feeling or thinking about it so it shuts down. EDMR therapy would help along with maybe hypnotherapy? For those that that hasnt happened to the key is feeling though. Really feel. Like you said breathe it out through your body & relax. Mindfulness also helps

    Gosh I have to say... THANK YOU. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. I am 19 now have been recovering SUPER well from DP/DR that started when I was 16 and it is practically gone. It's been a couple years since I last watched this, and I just randomly thought about it, and it was just the fact that this video right here was the end of my suffering from DP/DR and the last video I ever watched on it. This experience was the hardest thing I ever had to go through so far, I went from being super confident and mentally strong to the exact opposite, this issue alone triggered so many crazy mental problems in me that I never thought I would ever go through, things that I really wasn't used to. I also went to the Emergency Room because I thought there was something wrong with me, they also told me I was as healthy as a horse and I was relieved at first then began to panic. I even dropped out of school for the last few months one year, I had severe panic attacks and breakdowns, I felt like I was on the brink of insanity all the time and couldn't even get a bowl of cereal without losing my mind over reality. I watched this video after struggling and watching so many others and I was just like "fuck it, yup, this guy is right, I'm done, I'm tired, let's do this" because all I ever did was just obsess and obsess over what I was feeling along with all these negative thoughts that I had and since then I have gotten so, so, so much better. So thank you for making this video, it was very nice and simple and it saved my life!! So I just had to come back and tell you, may God bless you! ❤❤❤❤❤❤

    Im crying. You just helped me get out of a loop that I have been trapped in for months in under 6 minutes and I cannot express how fucking thankful I am for you and for making this video. I feel like I've been tortured by my own mind just poisoning myself for months, and nobody I know understood what I was going through at all and I thought I was going crazy until just 5 minutes ago. I've wasted so much time trying to find ways to get through it just freaking out and being in pain every day, when all I really needed was for you to tell me to stop fucking caring lol.     Yoo i am a big fan of this video... I watch it everytime i begin to obsess over DP or existential thoughts. It really helps me. So thank you for that... But one great tip i can give to those who still struggle with DPDR is to search for a therapist specialized in depersonalization. They exist. And it is totally worth the money... Normal therapist often have no idea about dpdr but if u find one specialized in it it is like a dream come true. Trust me :)

    I agree, every time I just accept it and try to become comfortable with the uncomfortable it doesn’t fully go but it basically does and I think the only reason it doesn’t fully go is because it’s still subconsciously in my mind. You’re right though, if you watch these videos daily that becomes part of your subconscious and you attach yourself to the disorder more and more rather than forgetting, you’re just reminding yourself daily which causes further hyper awareness.       @@gizellemendozaa3818 Honestly, i still have moments where it gets bad but it never gets to the point to where its debilitating.. at least not to the extent that it was. I had it really bad too, but after freaking out about it so much i guess i got to the point where i just couldnt freak out anymore. in a way its bad because im numb to certain things now, but i suppose thats how trauma is for everyone. and i try to remind myself of that. but for the most part, i dont notice it anymore. im 23 now and ive been dealing with this since 7th grade sooo.. its safe to say that itll be okay for others that are dealing with it too. and fortunately, this is temporary for most people.

    I want to say thank you very much. I watched this video a little over a year ago and it helped me pretty much fight depersonalization off but a couple months ago I guess I was thinking about it thinking over life and it started coming and I got a little bit of anxiety from it and it hit me like a truck. During Basic Training 2 months ago it came back and it was the worst I've ever had it and I was trying to think back to this video but all throughout basic it was on and off.     Mine was/is induced by anxiety. Had a weekend full of drinking and my hangover got me in a huge dp episode again. I almost didnt experience any dp for 6 months. Thanks to this video. Once again I'm here and once again it makes total sense. Thanks Ryan, this is the key people. The worst days are the unhealthiest days. Get out there, work out, get the right nutrition and vitamins. And this trick will 100% work.

    I had a depersonalization phase when I was 14 and it lasted for about 6 months. Back then I had no idea what it was and just like all of you I went to doctors, got blood tests, went to phycologists and talked to my parents which all didnt help me at all whatsoever. That phase went away when I told myself that I was done worrying about it. I've had another phase ongoing for the last 2 months. After watching this video I feel a lot better and now I'm confident that I can shake this. Thank you for this video, I cannot stress how much this helped. After watching this I now know that 4 years ago all I did was "let go" of it and that's exactly what I need to do now.

    I'm struggling really badly with this and it's been going on for years. I'm 16 now but it's literally killing me. Just last week I found out what it was called and I'm in so much ease knowing I'm not alone. This will most definitely be my go-to video everytime I feel disconnected.     I really needed to hear that, thank you!! I’ve been disconnected with myself for three weeks straight now and its the worst feeling ever. I didn’t step out of my house for a week and been just reading about depersonalization that got me believe that there is something wrong with me. I became very obsessive about it without realizing it.
    I started going to the therapist and practicing deep breathing and meditation, but this video made me feel so better, better than I ever felt in weeks.

      EnvyGlowy, I feel dizzy as well sometimes! My doctor said that its normal and the whole depersonalization thing is nothing serious and it will go away by its own. I found it helpful to not think about the feeling of disconnecting with real world and try to live the moment.

    Yo I just wanted to say thanks man. I had smoked and was watching a podcast and had a really bad panic attack that caused me to have this for a few weeks. I was so down and didn’t even want to get up. I now feel normal and I’m more happier than I’ve ever been. Please realize that if you have this going on cut the feedback loop that’s going on in your head! You’re real and this life is real don’t take it for granted! Distract yourself and move on with your life. Praying for everyone’s recovery :)

Its weird because i have a photographic memory so i still remember the images of my memories but not so much the verbal communication in them lol. Ive heard all that stuff returns to normal once it goes away i wouldnt worry about it too much

      The problem is my normal things to do was smoking weed and I was living great like that had good grade lot of friends weed basicaly gave me everything and now that I have dp I can’t smoke weed no more bc it just make me feel more anxious but I will never accept that I will not be smoking again my Life with weed was a 100 time better so for me being back to normal is Being back to smoke weed any advice ? And no I will not stop smoking even now I can still smoke a couple hit weed friends and feel ok but when Im alone that is impossible I instantly get anxious without even feeling the effect I was smoking an ounce in 3 days and my life was normal and pretty good weed gave me everything and I will never stop loving weed and + that’s not even the weed that gave me this feeling a the first place so if someone have been thrue that and as been able to smoke weed again would love to know how and if your advice is just to never smoke weed again that’s not a good advice I’m sorry haha thanks 🙏

    I wish I saw this video sooner. I started to feel weird about myself during this pandemic but I was too afraid to look it up because I was scared it would make it worse. Once I looked it up it did get worse but I'm glad it's only been a few weeks. Now, I wanted to watch more video's about to understand it so I got on CZcams, and I'm glad I clicked on this one. Just recently I discovered DARE and the way of thinking (stop caring, run towards your fear instead of away from it) really helps me. I love the internet for this!! Thank you.

    ive experienced this on and off for years but tonight it hit me so hard. i didnt recognize myself in the mirror, i didnt feel like my hands were mine, i looked at photos of myself and couldnt see me in any of them. i was so scared, so deeply scared and i kept looking and looking for a reason or a miracle cure. i stumbled across this video and now i immediately feel so much better. thank you for your kind words and your reassurance. my hands feel like my own again

    I remember when I came across this video for the first time, and it really helped. I had derealization in february of this year 2018 and I have to admit that It was the worst time of my Life. I did not feel connected with anything or anyone and everyrthing seemed unreal. But I promise It will all pass. I was very stressed out because of my exams and I felt pretty Lost in my Life - and I still do - because I have no idea about What to do with my life, but derealization is no longer there. Because I don't give a shit about It. I swear It is impossible to worry about It your whole Life. That's just nonsense. Think about It, seriously. Now I can say derealization is not a problem, and sooner or later you guys Will get It, no worry. There are things much more important to be focused on. In my case, It lasted for a couple of months. I was so exhausted that one day I said to myself: that's It, this ends here right now. I love philosophy so much that I thought part of the reason I got derealization was because of It. After my anxiety episode I was asking the "why" of everyrhing I stumbleded upon walking down the street: What the fuck is a tree? Why do we have hands? Why is anything as It is? Stuff like that. Derealization is bullshit and It Will only make yourself stronger. And I repeat, it Will go away in time.
