It saddens me that none of the English speaking reviewers of this song bother to check out the lyrics. This is not a simple pop song this is Mexican classical music. Therefore the music, the voice and the lyrics are integrated. Everyone talks about the yodoling in the song as a surprise when the title of the song literally means"the shepherd" they're obviously going to throw in some yodoling, it only makes sense. The lyrics also say that the music the shepherd makes with his flute is almost a spell to call out the sheep. The whole falsetto and the yodoling are arranged within this song to make you fall into the spell of the singer. This is as magical as queen of the night on Mozart's the magic flute. This song deserves that kind of respect!!! đŸ€šđŸ€šđŸ€š

    The lyric translate:
The shepherd goes with his flock, at dawn, down the path, from the mountains to the meadow...
He goes to music his complaints with his reed piccolo, followed by his sheep like a spell...
The shepard's piccolo when driving, sing like this...
The shepherd goes back, because the sun is setting, he goes up the hill to guard his flock.
With his piccolo he calls his sheep one by one and communicates his joys and sorrows to them...
The shepard's piccolo when driving, sing like this...

When you refer to anything in the Spanish language, I know you might think you could call it Spanish but actually, the term only refers to an object that comes from Spain. For people, calling someone Spanish is also the wrong term even if you refer to people from Spain, like I said, it’s only for objects. The correct term would have to be “Spaniard”. If you don’t mean Spain, you have to specify the country. In this case, Mexican music, Cuban music, etc.
Every time you said Spanish music, I cringed! Specially when you were referring to “falsete” which is not used in Spanish music, only Mexican music. It’s like calling everyone that speaks English, “English” even if they’re from the US, Australia, or Ireland. 3 completely different countries.

"El Pastor" means "The Shepard". It's about a Shepard leading his flock (of sheep) through the meadow and down the mountain and he is playing a flute to urge them on. this yodeling is very particular to this song. Although, Mariachi music is difficult to sing. It requires vocal ability and breath control. Good Mariachi/Ranchera singer are very good at falsettos, yodeling and belting. Another thing that is required is passion. If you can't sing with emotion, it shows. Nice, I liked your reaction. Not to many people react to Spanish music; especially, this genre. According to alot of Mexican singers , even Mariachis, this El Pastor / The Sheppard is one of the most difficult song to sing.
The music you are listening is Mexican , Mariachi music, with an orchestra, not spanish musis.
The name of this great singer is Arturo Vergas.
This Mariachi Vargas de TecalitlĂĄn It comes from so mani generations trhru alot of decades, on their beginnings they've participate in mexican classic movies with the greates actors an singers like our unfogetable Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete etc.
Mr.Arturo Vargas is member of this greatest Mariachi Vargas de TecalitlĂĄn besides play the guitar .
Without doubt The Meriachi Vargas de TecalitlĂĄn is the best of the world.
A few werks ago they give a concert in New York , and play in a train stations just a few songs to invite the New Yorkers to the concert.

Puez El sol se esta ocultando.
That's the verse you were singing but didn't know the words.
Translation: well, the Sun is setting.
He uses the word ocultando to sort of insinuate the sun hiding.
The lyrist was feeling a bit clever.
    You're welcome 😁

Wonderful the way you describe it!, but one important observation: this is not a Spanish thing, nor a Spanish party, there are also Spanish wonders, but this is Mexican. We share language (in part) but our music and culture are different.

    Rough Translation:
    The shepherd (El Pastor)
The shepherd goes with his flock
    At the break of dawn
    Going down the path
From the mountains to the meadow.
He goes on mumbling his complaints
With his little flute of reed grass,
    Followed by his sheep
As if it were a spell.
    The little flute...
    Of the shepherd...
    Ay, ay, ay...
    Sings this way...
    The shepherd is going back,
    Since the sun is hiding
He is going up through the slope
To keep watch over his flock.
With his flute, he goes calling
    One by one his sheep
And he is communicating with them
    His joys and his sorrows.
    The little flute...
    Of the shepherd...
    Ay, ay, ay...
    Sings this way...

I cama across this video by chance. Would like to tell you, this Mariachi, Mariachi Vargas de TecalitĂĄn is not only a Mariachi, its a Company, and I would say, an Institution in MĂ©xico. More than one humdred years has lived, with the different generation of musicians. They are full musicians, meaning a 5 year Studies of Music, Voice a specialty on Mariachi music.. They are all Graduated as Musicians, plus the specialty, be it two Instruments or Voice. Yes, they have operatic voice. Check out this song by another instituciĂłn, AĂda Cuevas. Cheers! El pastor is about a Shepard, guiding his sleep with his flautin, a small flute, from the mountains to the valleys. And kindly, its not Spanish. (Spaish is the Tablao) its Mexican. Cheers!

JajajĂĄ, you set the translator to Spanish from Spain, so it can't pronounce "TecalitlĂĄn" since it is a NĂĄhuatl (Mexican) word! This is why, instead of pronouncing it, Google did spell it!, haha. Greetings and best wishes dear friend, thanks for appreciating Mexican music!

Just say “Teca” 😂 mi grandmother was born in TecalitlĂĄn but she always referred to the town as Teca, easier 😁👍đŸ‡ČđŸ‡œ it means “land of stone houses” in indigenous language, I believe NĂĄhuatl but I might be wrong 😊

sera que sepa que es lo que se esta cantando o nada mas esta escuchando el timbre de voz, porque para dar una opinion no solo se basa en la voz sino el sentido de la cancion para poder interpretarla, ya que tiene un sentimiento.
