@@darekm6859 Put any of them on a real road.
@@darekm6859 Nah, F1 cars have more HP always have. They accelerate faster plain and simple.
God help me, I remember the year the first 150 mph lap was turned at Indy (Parnelli Jones in 1962).

@@mightylonesome9426 The big Offy surely did make a sound! Never got to hear one in an actual race, but there was one (probably in a Watson chassis) that used to show up for the vintage races at Lime Rock Park a lot of years later and it was fun to listen to. And then, of course, there were the turbo-Offies that won a bunch of races in the early part of the rear-engine era.

The pressure on his ribs and neck must be insane, especially hitting bumps.
The G force alone can break bones without any impact
@@liljon454502 I believe that was an issue with the Nissan R390. Indy cars can spike over 5g of lateral force. So there is over 700 pounds of force against your rib cage depending on weight. I’m a pilot and have experienced that vertically in a plane and it’s violent. Couldn’t imagine taking it to the ribs. Imagine laying on your side and having 700+ pounds of weight stacked on you.
The cars had to be slowed down when they raced at Texas. At one point the g forces were so high that the drivers were about to black out. It’s a smaller track than Indy but the speeds were almost as fast. The lateral g forces are greater because of less banking in the turns. Less time to recover too since lap times are much faster.

With all the aero, high tech design and exotic materials, high revving powerful drivetrain and computerized management, it all still gets transferred to the racetrack via those four tire patches where the rubber meets the road.

Approaching CART levels of speed
A man who knows his history the other idiots on here would be well served in learning the history of Indy cars going back to USAC.
In my opinion, not as exciting as CART. The screaming banshees that were the engines back then added SOOO MUCH excitement to the racing. Also, in my opinion, you will never beat the excitement that was the finish of the 2000 Michigan 500, with Michael Andretti and Juan Montoya. Spectacular! To this day, Juan Montoya is my favorite driver and personality behind the wheel.
Not really lol. Even cornering speed is slower since on road circuits CART cars are still around 4 seconds faster. The only thing CART lacked was safety. CART was so massive and popular that it challenged F1, even so much so that F1s 1993 season (which was truly special) was heavily influenced by CART. F1 introduced safety cars for the first time and had lots of electronics, but the following season got rid of those electronics which had a detrimental impact...

Love to see this race at Talladega super speedway. Bill Elliott qualified at over 212ph all the way back in 1987. Imagine what this Indy car could do on that track.
I mean they raced at daytona and had like 3 fatalities in one race weekend, this was back in the 60's
They would have to put speed limiters on them, 260 mph would be theoretically possible.
The new Super Bee did that in the 60s leading to the first ban on a "stock" car. Carrol Shelby did it too many times during their wins at Lemans.
Lmao I don't wanna see any fatalities no thanks
They cant race them there its too much, way back in the 80s Rick Mears was touching 250 at Michigan and they pumped the brakes as not only is G Loading a real issue but the car launching into the crowd becomes quite real

That was the days of the Mulsanne before those right, then left "Bus Stop" chicanes were added. I.E., Back in the bad old days. But I used to love guys like Derek Bell screaming through the Le Sarthe pitch blackness with white painted trees just waiting to eat someone alive. Fun Fact...Land speed racing is a widely recognized discipline of motorsports....and 250 mph had been surpassed, "in a race", decades before it was achieved at Lemans....
If I can recall the record Peugeot set was around 411 kph, but Peugeot disclosed a 405 kph reading as some sort of publicity stunt for their new 405 sedan launch. The record setting Group C car famously retired shortly after the feat with mechanical failure.
Also I think the C9 and some Nissan cars made it just about 400 kph and the Jags some 395 kph, slower than the Peugeot but man, no slouch either. Group C was amazing.
