To be honest, bill tarmey set the bar so high with his portrayal of jack that corrie hasnt been the same since he and the other actors of his generation left. Rip.
Yep the Mike baldwins Alfie Roberts. Coronation Street was better no crazy story lines like murders or train crashes.
I remember watching an interview in the 90s where Bill Tarmey said something along the lines of "I don't kid myself, if I left, no-one would remember. Coronation Street would be exactly the same". Now here we are 25 odd years later, and people are literally still visting his grave to pay their respects. What a legend.
I loved it when he called Vera, “my little swamp duck!” I have to confess I shed more than a tear when they both died, on TV and in real life. RIP Jack & Vera. (Bill Tarmey & Elizabeth Dawn)
Looking forward to Bill Tarmeys tribute.
Still miss Jack and Vera .
They were brilliant value as a double act 🎬
I’m not a massive soap fan either but Jack and Vera were an institution . A representation of a true couple in love , constantly bickering but adored each other . When the characters passed away it was handled with perfection by Coronation Street . Watching this video prompted me to re- watch the scenes . 👍🏻
In case you are wondering (As I did!) 'His stage name of Bill Tarmey came from appearing at a club in Stockport where the manager insisted that Bill Piddington was too long to go on a poster. He had wanted to give him the surname of the singer Mel Tormé, but misspelled it as Tarmey.' Funny how these things work out!
Another famous person we all grew up with, now sadly gone. Himself and Vera were Coronation Street gold, along with Stan and Hilda. May they all rest in peace now ❤
It was the only time when soaps were worth the watching. No violence or nastiness just plain old-fashioned amusement!
My mum misses all the old characters.Thankyou for showing bills resting place.
Still one of my favourite Corrie moments when Vera came back for him.......Great goodbye to 2 of the most charismatic characters in the soap.
Bill Tarmey, Liz Dawn, Jean Alexander and Bernard Youens; mention any of these names and one immediately thinks of Coronation Street. Being a Northerner, I used to watch 'Constipation Street', as we affectionately called it, avidly when I was a child. Each brought realism, with their constant bickering and their own sense of humour to the show; those were the days when Corrie was worth watching. Sadly, all have now passed and are very much missed.
Haven't watched Corrie in years, but back in the day when it had Jack and Vera, Hilda and Stan and many others, that is when it was watchable. All these years later, I'm just finding out his real name. Where have I been? LOL 🙄 Thanks for this video 😊
Same here!!!!!
Couldn't agree more. The golden age of soap opera was great and Jack's passing had me crying. Loved all the old characters and never watch soaps anymore.
God I loved jack I literally broke my heart when he died on corrie😭 what a lovely man bill was 😢rip to absolute legend thank u Paul 🙏🏻💙❤️
northern working mens club singer to corrie ,im down the road fron this cemetery and ive been to see his head stone ,great fellow and salt of the earth being a northerner .
i don't watch soaps anymore, but have seen Jack and Veras antics over the years and they were hilarious xx thanks Paul.
Coronation Street in the 90's with Jack and Vera just reminds me going to my grans house in the evening . It was always on the television when I went to visit
The sunshine and humour left Coronation Street after Jack and Vera left. Bill was perfectly cast for Jack. R.i.p
Miss bill and liz on Corrie the best duo by far in a soap❤️
I loved the Vera and jack scene's in coronation Street great actors and double act i loved them. William Roach played ken Barlow. May bill Tarmey rest in peace 🙏😇♥️🌹
Rip great actor will be truly missed good performance as Jack in coronation street
Very interesting about Bill’s life. Took years for Jacks glasses to be repaired in Corrie.
However I am intrigued about the reference to his Dad which I will have to research.
Thanks for this ❤️
Jack an vera the king an queen of coronation street both were epic thanks paul lovely tribute it wud have been wonderful to have had them both as neighbours they made the street real thanks again paul jst so lovely 👍🙌👍
I loved him as jack in coronation Street bless him thank you Paul ❤️❤️
l loved watching bill in corry haven't watched it for few years now but jack and vera give us so many hours of great entertainment on corry over the years he wasn't a bad singer either you braved the wet weather paul good on you.
Not forgetting Stan & Hilda, great tv viewings back then.. Coronation street will live on forever xx
Jack Duckworth was one on my all time favourite characters on the Street. The sticky tape on his glasses was just genius. Maybe it would’ve been nice to see his stage name on his headstone, but regardless of that he’ll always make me smile when I think of him. He was a legend and far better than any of the rubbish that is now seen in Corrie.( I dont watch it anymore, it’s lost it’s way )
I remember seeing bill tarmey he opened cousins furniture store in Dudley with Liz dawn who played his wife Vera my mom had a photo with Liz it's still on my hall way wall and I remember my brother shaking hands with bill and saying all the best bill he said that's our kid they were both fantastic thanks for this Paul 👍
Haven’t watched Corrie for years but Jack Duckworth was my favourite character when I did watch it.
Jack Duckworth, aka Vince St.Clair, the Wetherfield romeo! What a storyline that was! Jack & V played a blinder & I fell out of my chair laughing!
Like yourself Paul I grew up watching him playing Jack Duckworth on Corry. Jack and Vera soaps legendary couple. Great vid, thanks mate.
It’s grim up norf lol great work Paul
Bill Tarmey was a great actor. Once he left the show, the light went out.
Didn’t know he was dead ☠️ ten years! What a great character and a great double act with Vera Duckworth .You have to do Dennis Waterman and George Cole RIP superstars of British television of the 1970s and 1980s. John Thaw wouldn’t be a idea on the 20th anniversary of his death 💀
Thankyou Paul this man was a lovely man in coronation street and a good singer him and Vera were like an aunt and uncle that everybody had 😊
Brilliant actor, loved him as jack in coronation street,a true gentleman, thanks Paul, excellent as usual, shown as always with respect, stay safe xxxx❤️😊

Bill's final scene with the 'ghost' of Vera is one of the most emotional ones I've ever seen.
Liz and Bill were consummate professionals and really made this scene their own.
God bless both of them, RIP Liz and Bill
This guy was a legend also Vera wonderful lady both great together sad they went may there’s gentle sole rip
Awe, find memories of watching "Jack & Vera " on Corrie. A true testimony to Bill & Liz's acting skills. We still miss them today and oh, Jack's glasses......😘

Absolutely loved Bill in corrie alongside Liz Dawn its not been the same since. Loved his singing too ❤ cant believe its 10 years though 💔
Looking forward to this Paul , such a brilliant actor and sadly missed x
One of the best scenes in Corrie when I used to watch it was when vera served up jack one of his pigeons for his tea. She hated those birds🤣
@@cliffbutler9820 🍻 😎 💚 🕊
Very nice cemetery.. I love jack use tape up glasses !!!
A very good actor
I've noticed with graves of famous people they never have any recognition of the characters that they played. It needs a plaque saying here lies Jack Duckworth of Coronation Street somewhere.near.
ANOTHER GREAT ACTOR PAUL
WHO COULD FORGET HIM PLAYING JACK IN CORONATION STREET
I WILL BE WATCHING 1🥀
Bill Tarmey was brill in Coronation Street and loved him with his screen wife Vera. When he was in trouble with Vera he used to call her my little turtle dove lol

Loved Jack and Vera in Coronation Street, brilliant actor RIP Bill 🙏🌹Nice one Paul 👍
Jack and Vera where so true to life and what I really loved was that despite years of arguing and Jack always trying to be the lady's man they loved each other immensely.
Thank you Bill and Liz for all the laughter and tears.
Thank you Paul once again for your dignity and respect
My dad had a bit of a soft spot for jack, I think he reminded him of himself☺️ he looked like him a bit too.
He was a fantastic actor! Great tribute, Rip bill 💙
Wow there are some seriously Grand Headstones in this resting place! RIP Bill Tarmey
Great insight. My late friend Emma and I met Bill in Ashton ASDA and got a photo. Unfortunately I no longer have that photo like my friend. Only memories
Love this man love English coulture i livre um England and its my beautiful country
Such a shame that anyone who knew him as a great actor and of course a good singer has no mention of his stage name.. I would've never found him if I had been looking... so thank you Paul.. you found him xx lovely show you put up as well.. love watching them all xxx
I think the loveliest part of Jack's passing was the fact that when Jack left the Rovers for the last time, the music playing in the background was Bill Tarmey - for me it made it more touching
Didn’t even know he had died 😮😢
Or just slipped my mind being 10 years ago.
Good video Paul, bit wet there ☔️
Looking forward to the winter videos 😀
Loved Jack and Vera. loved watching Corrie growing up. Don’t watch now but he’s definitely in my memories.
National treasures Jack and Vera coronation street was never the same once both of them left.
Oh i can't tell you how much i loved Jack & Vera in Corrie, i watch it still and they are still often mentioned in the soap. Thank you Paul for remembering him, rip Bill, you brilliant fella. I have been diagnosed recently with moderate sleep apnoea and use a cpap machine when sleeping. Xx
What a sad loss x
Awww he was amazing actor and to think of it a singer as well, I loved his character Jack Duckworth and wife Vera they made brilliant pair. R.I.P Bill and thank you for all the laughs on corrie and the very sad final scene when Jack re joined Vera awww.
I'm also not a big soap fan but I did watch Coronation Street a little bit more when Jack and Vera were in it. Heck I've even went on the Coronation Street studio tour in Manchester. I'm the type of person who loves to experience anything/anywhere famous at least once no matter what my interests are. Then I can say" I done it and have been there" as I point at the television. Bravo Bill Tarmey.
I can always tell when you’re up north Paul….the weather, I live just outside Manchester and my friend down south cant believe how green our grass is, well we have plenty of rain. Once again, another lovely video, always done so respectively and I think it is so important that these people are remembered, keep the videos coming Paul.
A brilliant actor who is still so missed but it’s so nice when they are mentioned in Corrie Vera and Jack they were true to their acting a fantastic couple RIP Jack ❤️

Incredible actor, used to watch him as a kid along with Vera, they made a perfect pair. Nice to see a drop of rain too after all this hot weather 😊 love your videos Paul !
There are some amazing looking graves there. I especially liked the one at 5:41 that looked like a castle from a chess set. That one definitely needs investigation. Fascinating stuff. In the words of Morrissey..."All those people all those lives where are they now?"
Another gravestone had a masonic compass.
great video Paul RIP Bill Tarmeys
I don’t think I can watch this till later as I’m looking after my mum whom has dementia
Thank you Michelle, yes mum comes first. Sending positive thoughts 🙏

Hi Paul, Bill was amazing as Jack in corrie forever in trouble with Vera (sorry mentioning my dad again ) but just like him always in the bad books 🤣 . I was shocked to learn that he had a stroke but wow he recovered from it well & glad he did . Cheers Paul for another great watch take it easy 👉 🙂
❤ the introduction Paul looking forward to the next video 🙂 👍
I feel that I have to add to these comments. I photographed Bill a number of times during my works as a photographer and found him very pleasant to work with.
That’s great to hear thank you Colin.
I played football against Bill's son who used to play in nets for Glossop a couple of times. I met Bill once (very briefly) at Wythenshawe Hospital when he was in his Rolls Royce looking & struggling to find a parking space for it.
Never heard of him Bill Tarmey but its great to see you doing him with respect and seeing his grave 🪦 stone. May Bill rest in Peace 🕊️🙏😢
I remember Bill in love thy neighbour its was one of his earliest tv appearances he played alongside Rudolf walker and the other 2 characters very funny show for it time back in the 70s.
