Utilities are very affordable in Jacksonville. It's entirely community owned (JEA) and nonprofit. Everyone in Jax gets a single monthly bill from JEA for electric, water and sewer charges combined. I pay about $220 a month on average for my house, which also has a pool pump on 8 hours a day. I let he AC run as much as I want. The breakdown of charges are about $160 for electric, $40 for sewer and $20 for water. Water is so cheap here. Although I live alone in an 1800 sq ft house. But I still think $220 for everything is pretty damn good.
Plus the fact that it rains like a mad man in Florida, that seems to make sense why the water bill isnât too bad. I mean, it doesnât rain enough here in Las Vegas, NV. Right now it is 115-117 here in Vegas and I miss that Florida rain đ§ lol!

Not the case in all of NE FL re water. St Johns County utilities is very high for water compared to you. $50 is probably my lowest bill but if I have to turn the sprinkler system on, it will jump to 120-150 for the month. They donât do separate meters for sprinkler like I know JEA will do. My electric is less for 2700 sq ft. Also live alone - yes in a stupid big house.

Great video. My expenses in Volusia County are less than $2400 because I am really conscious of my spending. However fixed expenses like Homeowner's insurance in 2021 has increased significantly due to frivolous lawsuits. The age of a roof also effects insurance costs. (2020 $800 / 2021 $1200)One cost you might have mentioned is HOA fees and/or mobile home park pad rentals. This can cost about $400+ per month. Home repairs have become more costly. Condo vs single family home costs are different. For example lawn care and pest control are expenses condo fees generally cover. My car insurance is about $30 per month. Utilities are about $130 including water, garbage collection and electric.

How can anyone complain about your content if they are at all seriously interested in Florida or just want to see something created with good taste. I find it interesting that West Palm Beach has such expensive water compared to areas around it. Naturally, West Palm is one of my favored places to move to so far in my research. Is it your opinion that this crime is something new? Do you think this crime is increasing? Is it your opinion that the authorities are not doing enough to combat this crime? Unfortunately these days some crime seems to be everywhere. The last thing we want to worry about as we grow older is crime, particularly violent crime, personal robberies, and property crime on the street.

I'm sure there are people with different experiences. All we can do is do our home work the best we can and hope we make the right choices. You are right, most urban areas are experiencing crime. Shootings are a big problem around the country it seems. I pray you and your family remain safe and I hope you find the peace and tranquility you seek. It is so sad it doesn't seem to matter how upscale the communities become, violent crime still seems to become an issue. Thank you for your input. This is really good and honest in how you include much more, including what is expensive insurance due to the flood, hurricane, etc. potential damages. I think the housing cost total for a $300,000 home is a fleeting thing, as mortgage rates will very likely rise quickly given the inflation happening right now and the flood of printed money.
Anyone with a lick of common sense knows what youâre saying is true and that weâre going to have to pay the piper.

Probably 1/3 of people here drive an all-electric or hybrid car out here now. Our high gas tax, weird formulation that state requires for smog control mean the price of gas never goes down. Combined with generous state and federal incentives, electric cars look good from a cost standpoint.

I am from the Midwest (Minnesota) and am moving down to Miami, I have a new job and am looking for an apt and planning my finances, thanks for this video. I appreciate the perspective of someone also from the Midwest moving down to Florida.
Former Southnebraskiowan here. Having the job first helps. So you already won round 1 of 2. Get 7500$ in savings to boot. You will be down to about 3000-4500$ after you use a shipping container. You will be out your stuff for about 1 to 2 weeks so prepare. Never ever get a place above the first floor. You will never be able to get your stuff out of the container. People will notice your midwest accent. You will think the first winter here is weird. The sun sets 1 hour early. You will be pissed off. The sun arcs overhead higher in the sky. The beaches have seasons.......surfing, jellyfish, seaweed, sharks, and deadly surfing. This starts in November. The clouds are damn weird here. You wont see the same stuff back home. You know those crickets? You will hear a different species of them and not the midwest ones. This will make you mad. Cicads? Good luck, because FL has different sounding ones. Big green leaves on trees? Yea right. Those are gone. Also the leaves CAN fall off in the winter, and its just brown colors before they fall off. It can make the landscape look scary. You will not miss snow.

Ours is water sewage and trash, it was $40 when we moved to FL in May, but it just went up to $70 a month with price of gas/inflation. Our electric is around $300/mo (2100 sq feet house). Our home owners insurance is $1500/yr.

Florida has yet to reach California levels for being expensive . But it's clearly headed in that direction . Especially on the Coasts . We're longtime retired Florida residents looking at a few cheaper States to move to such as Utah or Tennessee . But the Housing Market is totally out of control everywhere right now .
Yes right now is probably one of the worst times in history to try and make a move with inventory shortages everywhere.

Not at all. Winter is the most expensive time down here in Florida because people flock here from all over the world since itâs cold everywhere else
Not really, houses are in extremely high demand, as far as hotels are concerned, those are based on occupancy levels. If the hotel is dead, theres a great chance you can find some discounted rates.
Like Michael said, winter is high season here as people flock to Florida Nov - April for the warm weather while it snows up north. Hotels definitely are highest around this time. I feel like the time for lowest hotel rates may be around sept-October as most people are back at work and do not travel at this time. My birthday is in October and I got a great deal in south beach to stay at a nice hotel by the Versace mansion for my birthday. Saved a lot going in October. But by first weekend of Dec the rates are going up for Art Basel and stays up past spring break.
I live in the Aventura/north Miami Beach area. 1 bed 1.5 bathrooms 1000sq feet and my electric bill is around 55 dollars per month

Iâm having to catch up on videos as Iâm now working M-F full time and M-S except Wednesday night part time so I donât even get a break on weekends at least till tourism season dies down after summer then picks back up from October to New Years eve

You know what I think would be cool service. If you could host monthly group video/audio chats with people that are planning on moving to Florida. People could discuss their worries, their strategies, their to-do lists, share ideas, their findings and also it would allow people to get to know other new residents, so they don't feel alone in their journey. It would be motivation, like having a gym partner. If you aren't interested in hosting, I could host one as I am planning on moving there soon. It would be a simple zoom or messenger video call with people, with probably no more than 5 people per chatroom as any more than that and it would get too busy. If this is okay, I could host one this Saturday or next Saturday around 1 PM CT. If people vibe, they could partner with each other after the session is over and help each other until and after their move. My company does this with groups of new employees and it really does help to have a friend that is going through the same thing. Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss privately.

You need to update about The Villages.. The villages is golf cart accessible from the most northern part all the way to the most southern part. The Villages has golf cart bridges yes i said golf cart bridges. Also there is a golf cart paths and tunnels for the golf carts. You need to come back and get some people that have been living here for a while. It is a lot cheaper to live in The villages.

Good question Tina, I run the A/C for about 12 hours a day, 12 am to 12 noon usually and I have it on a pretty low setting at 69 degrees. I leave it off during the day, as it usually stays pretty cool in my place after being on all night. And I keep the windows closed to keep the bugs and humidity/heat outđ
I live in a 2700 sq ft house in NE FL and my electric rarely gets up to $150. Highest are in summer months and I keep air on 76
Nice thatâs not too bad! I keep my ear off during the day but at night time I like it cold and I put it on 69 and I cook a lot so that probably makes up for the difference

Nice video but the costs vary so much from region to region in Florida that it would be more beneficial to do a series of shorter videos based on area. For example, my costs in Ocala are so much lower than in Miami.

Itâs so much money honestly. All rent has gone up by 300 to 400 dollars in palm beach. We tried to move to north to mid florida to was too much so we are just waiting. đđ»đđ»
Yes the cost of housing has definitely risen the most more than anything else
$373 for 6 months of auto insurance Mazda 3, full coverage. $40ish a month water bill. Electric in summer around $80-100. Both bills are for 2 people. We bought our townhome when the prices were at their lowest point and rates in 2012. We got very lucky and donât plan on moving anytime soon- one day we want a ranch style house with a pool, though!

Thanks Cristina! I always leave out health insurance on purpose since there is no "average" It can be drastically different depending on how much income you make, your job, your plan, how many people are covered in your plan etc. So it can range from like the $40/month I pay up to $600-800/mo or more for a married couple with a family and everywhere in between, so its a topic that is very hard to nail down figures that work for most people.
I've decided not to have insurance on my 2nd floor condo. I'm not in a flood zone and I face north with only a few windows. Im considering storm shutters instead. Years ago in another state, I waited 9 mos on a claim that they lowballed. I know I'm taking a chance, and it's not for everyone, but insurance always seems to find a way to not pay out enough. Ten years ago, when I did have insurance, it was around $1200 yearly, so I'm sure a similar policy would be much more.
As long as you don't have a mortgage, nothing wrong with that. In fact, you'll probably save more money that way, and when something does happen, you can pay for it right away, no red tape, and fix exactly what needs to be fixed and nothing else. Storm shutters are a good idea đ
@@MichaelBordenaro yes, I don't have a mortgage. I have a good amount saved. Years ago up north, I waited 9 mos to have a huge hole in my ceiling fixed. After a new roof on my condo was put in, apparently a tool was dropped putting a slice through the rubber. Slowly water accumulated and I suddenly got a 4 ft hole! But yeah, I waited just to have someone come out to look.
Yikes! I can't believe folks don't have homeowners. That's my biggest asset. What about a fire? What about a tornado? I could be wiped out in one bad luck event. never buy warranty insurance, I agree it's a scam.
Car insurance is crazy for younger people. I'm looking at $212 a month and that's on the lower end from what I've heard from different agents. đ

I have an attorney friend still living in Emerson who may be on the 2-3 year plan. He's looking at Miami too, as is my sister, her husband and a couple of her friends. I may end up keeping Michael quite busy!
I'm surprised your grocery bill has not changed, my groceries are 40% higher. A red bell pepper is now $6.59 per lb. and use to be $3 something, A brand of almonds went from $6 something to $10 something.

I bought my home in 2016 and used security first to insure it. It is a 1925 3 bed, 1 bath (1100sqft) with detached garage. The first three yrs the price was around $2000. Then in 2021 it went to $3000 which I paid. Then this year it went to $4600! When I called they told me they no longer accept FL customers and insinuated it was because of high fraud, and that if I left I couldn't come back. Well I left of course. Now I'm stuck w Citizens but pay $2400/yr. Older homes are harder to insure, but I love my home and the old charm it has.

@@s99614 because the Midwest is the bread basket of the United States. There is a lot of farming in the area and Chicago is the Midwestâ biggest city. Also not including farming but Wisconsin is the âdairy capitalâ and so because things are so close shipping isnât as much. And the food is actually better, other than the fish.

I have a 2300 sqft home in Jax and pay $250 a month combined wtr/elec/swr and $40 for natural gas. Insurance is about $194 a month and property tax about $200 a month.
That is so low! Jax is probably one of the cheapest nice cities to live in FL though

How about property tax? Whatâs the percentage In south Florida? And what are the hidden expenses owning a house or a rental property? Thatâs probably differ froM the northeastern states? Thanks
Property tax is included in the $1500/mo housing payment. If you do the breakdown for an average 300k house here in FL, your monthly payment will be roughly 1500/mo with mortgage, property taxes and insurance. The % of property tax rates vary a lot throughout FL, even from county to county and city to city. But on average most places will be between 0.7%-1.3%

You need to make an other update on the cost of living in Orlando Fl. rent have gone up $300 to 600 more on apartment rentals.. I think you made a mistake about restaurant dinner prices for two, there is not midrange restaurants in Orlando Fl. where you can have a dinner for two like the one that you show in this video with steak an bottle of wine for less than $ 250, if you bring your own wine that will cut your bill, but you'll still have to pay a corkage fee between $15 to $50.

Since I am in the process or moving đ€Ź to Tampa, I have NOT seen any 2/2 for $1500 đ Maybe in the ghetto. I have seen 1/1 for ~$1500/$1600. If you're looking for a 2/2 in a decent area it's closer to $1800. $1700 rentals here in PBC are very hard to come by. Ok, back to the video...
you have to remember these are just the average prices. And right now the real estate market is changing so fast that any inventory here today can easily be gone tomorrow

@@JesusPaidItAll, there will be crashes in the future, but remember that the population in the USA grows by 1.2% a year or 4.2 million people, and that is without immigration. That's like dropping another LA proper on the map every year, so competition will continue to rise. Also, add in inflation, competition from work-from-home migrants and large corporations that are looking to buy up real estate to rent it out. My full coverage through Universal insurance is 1450 a year. Covers flood wind hurricane and sinkholes. Would have sent it before but missed the last vid.

No I donât think this is normal for a water bill I think itâs extremely high. Iâve already seen a couple other comments of people that are paying much less. And thatâs right if you find a place for rent with water included especially in an area like this youâre getting a deal!

I keep my ac on 80 , crazy for most people, but my bill is never over $65. It depends on the temp you run it. Most of my neighbors pay $100-$150.

This is pretty spot on for Florida coastal or major city col. However, if someone is looking to live frugally in Florida, come to the rural areas. In some areas, 1600 sq ft NEW HOUSE is around $140,000 and that's with a bit of land. Not coastal property, but the coast is not too far to have a day trip to the beach.

Income tax is a funny thing, and definitely varies by state. People (employers too) like to tell my husband, well you won't have any state income tax. So he should not be concerned with a $2000+ a month paycut because we won't have to pay that $1100 a YEAR in income taxes to California. đ
With housing so crazy, it is really NOT cheaper to live in FL. We know it doesn't make sound financial sense, but we're still considering a move to the Sunshine State because we believe it's a better place to raise our kids than CA. We do not have family in either state.
Yes but itâs mostly just there as far as I know for the high water bill. Everywhere else seems to be reasonable and some other people but how much they pay in the comments. Thatâs a good point on the pay cut and then no state income tax is. I think that becomes much more important depending on how much you make per year and how much youâve been paying in state income tax where you live
Insurance is such a scam they charge so so much and when an issue does happen youâll jump through hoops, then your premiums and deductibles increases. At times it takes months or years to settle a claim. Insurance companies make billions!
