Even though I got a bachelor's in environmental science, I didn't know that such services exist in China (with all due respect, waste is a huge problem here, especially food). So I was pretty surprised to see this app at all. But then I also heard that it was owned by a foreigner! Zero Food Waste, or 八点以后, is based in Chengdu, and it really works (for now, only in Chengdu). I'm not a huge fan of random when it comes to meals, but it saves money and saves some food from being written off for sure.

Looks pretty cool! I lived in China and am moving back. I love it there, but it's def not the most environmentally friendly place.

@@HappyHourWithMatt I agree! Mostly changes here have massive scale but enforced by the government. It is rarely coming from the private sector

So? I would always care more for safety and job security than environmentally. You talk to US government and sue them for putting 100% tarrifs on EVs then. The general public loves oil and gas and dislikes Tesla.

Btw, don't move back to China as it is not perfect enough for westerners.

This is incredible. About a year ago, I was at a KFC near the Nanjing South Railway Station around 11 PM. They were closing up, possibly because it was close to Chinese New Year, and there wasn't much traffic that night. I saw dozens of pieces of fried chicken left, so I asked the staff what they were going to do with the food. One of them proudly told me they were going to throw it away. I asked if they could give it to me for free so I could share it with food delivery drivers, but they rejected my request due to company policy. I understand he was proud because they were strict about food quality control, but to me, it's just food waste. This happens every night in cities across China, while some people in the same city struggle to get enough protein for their daily meals.

Because KFC is an American company, this phenomenon of throwing away products that don't sell is quite common in the United States.

According to FAO, China's per capita protein intake exceeds that of the United States.

@@zhangburnham7226 I cannot imagine, I know rice has more protein than milk with same amount of weight, but America is NO.1 soybean country and export to China for decades, the price for dairy products and meat in China is significantly more expensive than America but the income is much less than American. It doesn't make sense pre capita protein intake exceeds that of US.
