Really?) 02/02/2023: And with this I add: E'Femme and Rakky Ripper from Benidorm Fest, with two of the most party-like and moving songs of said contest, gone from the finals. (I don't believe I was gonna say this ever, but thanks a lot to Agoney to get the 40 points from televote and save Megara from NQ death...) 04/02/2023: Benidorm ends, Agoney gets 2nd place despite being one of the favorites, and Alice Wonder, Megara and Fusa Nocta didn't make it...But the good thing is that Blanca Paloma's song is Eurovision-worthy. At least Spain didn't dissapoint at all. 11/02/2023: Dansk MGP: Nicklas Sonne, despite being one of the most ESC-worthy entries and managing to get to the superfinal, loses against Reiley who gets to Liverpool. And Ajyya didn't even make it to the Top 3 even being one of the favorites of the night and the contest. And Ollie got to the superfinals at Eesti Laul, but at least Alika won over him with a good song and being one of the favorites (at least imo) 26/02/2022: Poland National Finals. Jann was the clear chosen one from both Polish and global public. And the TVP jury gave him 7 from 12 points (4th place), didn't reveal the total televote points and he ended 2nd against Blanka's "Solo". Shocked, and still in disbelief...Either Poland gets a LOT of luck, or it will be them out of the semis...

Because people vote on performances, and this was just a bad performance. The song itself is good but 1. Her vocals are lacking 2. The staging is awful 3. She just... stands there the entire song 4. She seems really nervous on stage and that kinda taints itself on the performance. It doesn't matter how good of a song you have, it HAS to perform on the night (we saw this with France last year) otherwise people are going to reject it.
Norway 🇳🇴, this song simply deserves to be in the final! It represents your culture, and you selected some generic pop songs... This was strong, although the staging was not 💯 % ready! Can she just represent Denmark, they need something like this?!

This is how staging can ruin a song. Freya was one of my absolute favourites of the season. Totally devestated to not see this qualifying to the final 😭❤️
As one old meme in LatAm said: "No es lo que esperaba, pero estoy satisfecha" (Not what I expected, but I'm satisfied with it) Honestly, I was expecting a bit more of action at the stage considering the heart-pumping and godly vibes of the song, but even with that, the song SLAYED. It SLAYED PERFECTLY like in the Studio version and the lighting helped Maria's vocals. And that detail of the Life tree at the final bridge... That was something I literally didn't see coming and powered up the performance :D [spoilers ahead of MGP selection] As one of my favorites from the MGP 2023, I hoped she would get selected to the Finals so her song and staging could get stronger, and voted for her the best I could, but well😟...It was still good to finally hear Freya live :,)
Such a surprise not seeing her reaching the grand final. The song is amazing and the staging was good as well but maybe a bit too « static ». Those « Viking vibes » songs need lots of energy on stage (Oda Gondrosen really elevated « Hammer of Thor » last year with an incredible staging) and maybe here it missed some movements. Anyway, I still think it’s one of the best song of MGP 2023 and definitely should have qualified !

She is Norwegian Adele!! I think she was definitely deserved qualify to the final more than Skrellex. Everyone told she had bad vocals but her voice was very strong and amazing except one of the last parts. The stage was more different than I expected. I was thinking a drum band will be on the stage but this was so pure. Nevertheless it was really good. I hope she will come back with more strong song next year. She deserves going to the ESC.

This staging is all treated in detail, both in terms of lighting and props on stage. Maria's interaction with the props on stage was also on point. (This is just my opinion 😅)
Okay its been a day, and I've had time to refflect on this. I think she didnt go through because the simple fact that she was a fan favourite, and I believe that alot of people expected a better staging, maybe with some heavy drum dudes in the background banging to the beat and maybe some dancers? Her vocals needed improvement on a few places. Especially when she sang "when our voices are a houndred thousand strong" but overall this still deserved to qualify in my opinion
She doesnt have that much experience and she had some heavy shoulders to carry by being a favorite on the odds and everybody talking about it. She was very nervous and lacked the power she is trying to convey in her song unfortunately. Not easy to be all alone on stage and carry a song like that and as you said, she should have been supported by some dancers and drums. She actually said in an interview after the rehearsal that she has to enjoy the moment more and dont be so stressed cause people can see through that…and she also said she should show more power. Thats unfortunately what happened. She actually cried on stage before her rehearsal because of nerves someone who was there said.
This song should've won MGP and would've done really well at Eurovision. I think it's the staging that killed it, unfortunately. Loved the fire but everything should've been more grand. Of course there's a limited budget, but: _the tree could've been more realistic, at the center of the stage behind Maria. _there could've been drummers coming out and being part of the chorus, to exude epicness. _there could've been different lights and colours throughout the song to give a sense of progression and build up to the climax of the last chorus. _in the instrumental break there could've been a random folkloristic dance around the majestic tree, with female dancers and a night bonfire atmosphere. Not to take away anything from the job that was done and the people who worked on it, but I'm convinced that with a better staging this song would've crushed it: it's better at doing electronic folk than Queen of Kings, more original than Honestly, more powerful than Love You In A Dream. It should've at least been in the final to compete and have a chance to rework the staging. So so sad to see it not fully reach its potential. I regrettably didn't vote for this because: _as much as I love the song I was a disappointed by the overall performance, _I thought that Freya was for sure going to go through because it was so loved by fans already _I was pleasantly surprised by Atle's performance whose song I don't even love as much but it worked well with the staging that night and made me emotional and I decided to vote for that instead. Maybe a lot of people felt the same as I did, also influenced by the running order, and it resulted in not enough votes going to Freya. I'll make sure to save Freya on Spotify and keep listening to it because it's honestly a very nice song, especially the last chorus. Would've absolutely loved to see it at Eurovision but now we move on. I hope Maria Celin manages to come out of this experience stronger than before and I wish her the best for her music career because her voice is undeniably so unique and versatile, and she's so sweet. She did great that night and she should be proud of herself for that! Who knows, maybe we might see her at MGP again one day.

She was pretty soft in the parts when she should've been aggresive, I expected her to be aggresive when she was singing "Freya ! Freya! Freya!" but she acted like it's not a big deal and there is where you should make an impact. But this should've qualified easily enough in any of the semi finals so I am a bit dissapointed.
If only you had a chorepgraph this could have been exceptional. It was too much standing still to a song that has lot of rollercoaster elements. It became anti-climatic for me. Also, I only heard that exceptional voice from The Voice for maybe 5% of the song. Take 1:35 to 37 as an example. You get more aggressive (but also controlled!) for a couple of seconds there. That is sexy and really cool. Alas, it was too absent in this particular performance, unfortunately. But I know, from watching you on The Voice, that you have so much more in you and I pray to the Gods that you continue and we will see more of you! Love your talent! Keep shining!
"Hammer of Thor" was way better staged and Oda was a much more confident performer. This felt a bit empty. She sings "let's hit the drums of love" and there aren't even drums on stage.
To everyone that is still upset by this I think the reason she didn't qualify is because everyone only had ONE vote. People saw this and thought, oh this one is obviously gonna qualify and therefore put their vote on their 2nd favorite. If enough people did this just like me then there is a big chance of that being the reason.

@@danielnysterud9605 i found this staging the best of this semi, even better than Skrellex. I look at this staging as a performance and a work of art. This staging is all treated in detail, both in terms of lighting and props on stage. Maria's interaction with the props on stage was also on point. (This is just my opinion 😅)
One of my favorites prior to the live show, sadly the vocals were lacking and the staging was underwhelming.
Okay its been a day, and I've had time to refflect on this. I think she didnt go through because the simple fact that she was a fan favourite, and I believe that alot of people expected a better staging, maybe with some heavy drum dudes in the background banging to the beat and maybe some dancers? Her vocals needed improvement on a few places. Especially when she sang "when our voices are a houndred thousand strong" but overall this still deserved to qualify in my opinion
She doesnt have that much experience and she had some heavy shoulders to carry by being a favorite on the odds and everybody talking about it. She was very nervous and lacked the power she is trying to convey in her song unfortunately. Not easy to be all alone on stage and carry a song like that and as you said, she should have been supported by some dancers and drums.
She actually said in an interview after the rehearsal that she has to enjoy the moment more and dont be so stressed cause people can see through that…and she also said she should show more power. Thats unfortunately what happened. She actually cried on stage before her rehearsal because of nerves someone who was there said.
This song should've won MGP and would've done really well at Eurovision. I think it's the staging that killed it, unfortunately.
Loved the fire but everything should've been more grand.
Of course there's a limited budget, but:
_the tree could've been more realistic, at the center of the stage behind Maria.
_there could've been drummers coming out and being part of the chorus, to exude epicness.
_there could've been different lights and colours throughout the song to give a sense of progression and build up to the climax of the last chorus.
_in the instrumental break there could've been a random folkloristic dance around the majestic tree, with female dancers and a night bonfire atmosphere.
Not to take away anything from the job that was done and the people who worked on it, but I'm convinced that with a better staging this song would've crushed it: it's better at doing electronic folk than Queen of Kings, more original than Honestly, more powerful than Love You In A Dream.
It should've at least been in the final to compete and have a chance to rework the staging. So so sad to see it not fully reach its potential.
I regrettably didn't vote for this because:
_as much as I love the song I was a disappointed by the overall performance, _I thought that Freya was for sure going to go through because it was so loved by fans already
_I was pleasantly surprised by Atle's performance whose song I don't even love as much but it worked well with the staging that night and made me emotional and I decided to vote for that instead.
Maybe a lot of people felt the same as I did, also influenced by the running order, and it resulted in not enough votes going to Freya.
I'll make sure to save Freya on Spotify and keep listening to it because it's honestly a very nice song, especially the last chorus. Would've absolutely loved to see it at Eurovision but now we move on.
I hope Maria Celin manages to come out of this experience stronger than before and I wish her the best for her music career because her voice is undeniably so unique and versatile, and she's so sweet. She did great that night and she should be proud of herself for that!
Who knows, maybe we might see her at MGP again one day.

Song wise yes, performance wise, this was so shockingly off, unfortunate day to have a bad one.
I know people expected so much from her but the live vocals had trouble, maybe she was nervous cause it lacked energy and the staging was so dull

Håper du kommer tilbake en annen gang, med sang i samme sjanger. Til denne sangen så jeg kanskje for meg en hvit midtsommerkjole, dansere og trommer. Mer bevegelse på scenen. Jeg likte livets tre og røyken. Sangen er fantastisk, og den vil nok leve godt videre på Spotify :)

She was pretty soft in the parts when she should've been aggresive, I expected her to be aggresive when she was singing "Freya ! Freya! Freya!" but she acted like it's not a big deal and there is where you should make an impact. But this should've qualified easily enough in any of the semi finals so I am a bit dissapointed.

If only you had a chorepgraph this could have been exceptional. It was too much standing still to a song that has lot of rollercoaster elements. It became anti-climatic for me.
Also, I only heard that exceptional voice from The Voice for maybe 5% of the song. Take 1:35 to 37 as an example. You get more aggressive (but also controlled!) for a couple of seconds there. That is sexy and really cool. Alas, it was too absent in this particular performance, unfortunately.
But I know, from watching you on The Voice, that you have so much more in you and I pray to the Gods that you continue and we will see more of you! Love your talent!

there was a much stronger field this year. unfortunately
"Hammer of Thor" was way better staged and Oda was a much more confident performer. This felt a bit empty. She sings "let's hit the drums of love" and there aren't even drums on stage.

To everyone that is still upset by this I think the reason she didn't qualify is because everyone only had ONE vote. People saw this and thought, oh this one is obviously gonna qualify and therefore put their vote on their 2nd favorite. If enough people did this just like me then there is a big chance of that being the reason.
