Brass is available. I bought some through Graf and Sons. 180gr Hornady Round Nose bullets work great. Just reload and don't fret about lack of ammo! 👍

I’m the 4th generation in my family to own our 1906 .303 99a. Including this year, that rifle has dropped large game year after year, decade after decade.
I do have quite a bit of reloading supplies for it but I also have just over 100 rounds of factory rounds. 80 of them are the 190gr Winchester super X silver tips. They still are just as good as the day they were bought.
I might just be buried with it if I can’t find someone worthy of inheriting it lol.

I was searching for a Model 99 three years ago and happened upon one in .303 Savage at a local pawn shop that buys a lot of estate guns. I passed on it and opted for one made in 1957 in .308. Both rifles were in great condition but the limited availability of .303 ammo swayed me over to the .308.

I would have no problem taking a decent, shootable 99H in .303 Savage deer or hog hunting. Or one in .300 Savage for that matter. Well hell, I guess it's off to the internet and area pawn and gun stores if I want one of each. Excellent vide!

HaHa! Don't get into trouble Furman. Gunbroker gets me into trouble almost every time! Let me know how it turns out.

Most economy based Savage rifles used Birchwood instead of walnut. But I'm not sure way back in 1926.

I have a savage 303 with a Peep sight. I use it for many years deer hunting, but can’t get the ammo,so it’s mostly in storage. I haven’t shot it in 20 years. serial number 5691.

That old 303 savage is about obsolete as far as cartridges go we used to have a old model 95 savage in the 303 savage it's a slow old punkin slinger about like the 35 Remington

The savage is a great gun. I think the military adapted the rifle doing the Spanish war of 1890’s, and it did out perform the level action rifle which came out after the civil War in I think 1871

Nearest I can figure it was the first of this model actually made by Marlin. Before savage even had a factory.

Better than a 30/30 but still in the same family of cartridges and same performance envelope?
    That's easy
35 Remington is definitely a better all around LA rifle Cartridge than 30/30
