I'm a big fan of the Rick and Marty episodes
wubalubadubdub!
ha nice one!
They should do an animated series
@@i5rael That means kill now I am in pain, you know that right?
He is one of a kind. The guitar world is lucky to have him.
Marty is a true (Grandmaster) artist. It doesn't matter what medium you use, his approach works for all of them. Whether it's music, painting, animating, carpentry, etc. All crafts. All of this applies. Learn the rules, then break them.
You know that Marty's been in Japan a long time if he forgets English.
You also know it from his cadences and "aw" when he's listening to Rick. That's so clear.
What a fantastic player with an amazing palette.
Who all had to go grab a guitar while watching this? Marty….. such a nice dude.
Yeah very inspiring!
Marty was one of my only guitar heroes I met that didn't disappoint me.
He was super kind, and remarkably generous with his time and answered a lot of my questions.
He's one of the best guitarist EVER, and a awesome dude.
I learned about Marty when “Symphony of Destruction” came out and it’s my favorite Megadeth album to this day. Great songs, but Marty’s solos are so melodic and tasty they never get old.
I met Marty in 1989 after a Cacophony show, and it was a little bit awkward. But watching this, wow, what a gentleman and--obviously--a completely unique player. And, boy, the stories Marty could tell !
Marty and I used to hang out a few times when he was still in Megadeth. He would come to my place to jam and we would go eat sushi. Unfortunately we lost contact when he moved to Japan. I always thought that he was one of the most unique players in the world of guitar...
DId not know Pauly Shore was such an awesome guitarist. Impressive!
This excerpt of Marty friedman definitely made me have a new respect for him and his playing that i previously did not have.
His "Make the guitar your voice" concept is something a few guys have spoken of as far as making the guitar lines more vocal like, Paul Gilbert has been on this a lot the last few years
so i got it from him and obviously i got it from George Benson who everything he play's is vocal like! The 1000 notes up and down the fret board and arpeggio's out the wazoo has been done to death IMHO. Yeah yeah we get it you can play fast and have technique! NEXT!
A Chris Poland version would be interesting as well.
Marty’s approach to guitar solos reminds me of Prince’s approach, specifically, the attention to every aspect of “the important notes” which are generally those single notes sustained, bent, with vibrato.
Bravo for the attention to THOSE lonely but critically important notes, Marty! 👏👏👏
Awesome Truth!!!
Great tips! I remember someone once told me to play phrases like you're having a conversation. Sounds like Marty is thinking similarly.
Hey Rick. Do you think it would be possible to interview Dann Huff?? Would be phenomenal to have a long form interview with him
@3:06 "Conscience effort to make a conscience effort"....AKA...Making plans to make a plan...LOL (-:
never get tired of Rick and Marty
A bit disappointed by this live action episode
Mart is soo awesome, you've had a run of some of the best AND nicest guys on your series Rick!
Marty is one of a kind, fantastic style.
I have so much respect for Marty, and his approach to music. I’ve never been a huge Megadeth fan, but the work he has done since leaving the band is so inspiring. I love listening to his music in natural landscapes and just adding to nature with his music. It is just beauty.
It sounds amazing Marty!🎸👍
Dave mustaine was blessed to have Chris Poland and Marty!!!
Chris and Marty’s note (scales) choices and vibrato are impeccable. Both are on my short list of favorite guitarist.
Scenes and Introductions are such good albums... his Asian sounding solos are great and the melody in those songs is mind blowing. Listen to the song Escapism...wow!
Rick says it sounds amazing… gotta start working on it
Yup , give me the secrets
I heard the term "voicing" a few years back for guitarist. And after listening to what that term meant, that made me pay more attention to my own playing n others like great players like Marty. Make so much sense.
Great musical ideas!
Friedman is a amazing guitar player. Incredible.
Marty, nice stuff brother!
I love you Marty!
Marty is one of the best players. Up there with the greats.
Looking forward to Mr. Friedman’s new lesson video thing he mentioned in the complete video
Rick, I would recommend you rename your second channel 'Rick Beato B Sides', just a thought. I think folks confuse Rick Beato with Rick Beato 2. They don't realize they're not subscribed.
Great idea! I just subscribed coz i first thought Rick Beato 2 was fan made trying to ride on the success of Mr Beato.
I remember seeing him at Musikmesse in the early 90s, just after Youthanasia has been out. He was totally awesome, in the end even blew that poor Randall amp they had put up for him (it literally let out smoke). It was sublime, 200+ very shy metal heads all sitting on the floor in that venue and when he asked after some soloing "so what are we gonne do for the next 30 minutes, you got any questions?". Nobody spoke up.
Finally I raised me hand and asked how his practice routine worked. And he mentioned to only really practice hard right before the recording sessions and before going on tour. "So I play the solo as close to the record as possible...". And then he continued to play and solo and demonstrate some of his own stuff far far from Megadeth style and blew our minds with it and so did the amp!
Really good
He plays like the Deva in 5th Element sings opera. 🌎🚀 Out of this World. 🤖👍🏼🎸
Marty's style is so interesting and unique. His picking method is very uncomfortable looking tho lol. Apparently works very well for him
I noticed this, too. His picking technique (techniques?) is WILD. The upstrokes are crazy.
There's something really interesting and unique about those up-picked notes. Eric Johnson does a lot of up-picking too, and there's just some sort flavour that that seems to give the tone that I love. Kills my wrist when I try to replicate it though lol.
Wow!
The Sensei has spoken again; Arigato, Marty-san! 🤘👽🎸
Rick and Marty
9:21 good lord...
DAMN, that Guitar is SINGING...GENIUS!!!
Great playing and very articulate and thoughtful. Also, one of the most unusual and uncomfortable-looking right hand picking approaches I've ever seen. I'm surprised he isn't plagued by RSI issues.
I need Rick to interview Vito Bratta.
PLEASE!!!!!!
Steve Via has discovered this idea - sounds similar tone to him
No one's talking about Marty is using a solid state VOX, and still sounds GREAT. Tone is in the fingers, right?
Rick, please invite Gary Holt to be interviewed. He is one of the finest Metal guitarists on the planet. And a really nice guy.
I'd like to see an interview with Shaun from Wide Mouth Mason
There’s just one Marty Friedman n he’s the best🤟 wish he would get back into Megadeth🎸😎
While I'll never be able to do this, I often stand behind shelves and rest my head on one while bulging my eyes out when I'm playing like Marty Feldman.
💫✨❤
Fuckin awesome
“Fuck F-sharp! I’m playing F!”
- Marty Friedman
I want that on a t-shirt! What the hell has F-sharp ever done for me!
天城越え
Marty friedman is a beast! His right hand technique looks like his hand is broke
8:38 marty- fuck f#...
Bello/Magnifico.🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵😮
Still have Marty’s guitar pick from Countdown to Extinction tour in 93. Opened for Aerosmith. Of which they only did 3 shows with them. You could see how pissed Dave was. I love Aerosmith, but it was blasphemous to have the volume turned down lower for Megadeth’s performance.
Marty is the best! Yngwie, in my opinion is a close second. Jeff Beck is a close second. EVH a close second...Ha Ha. These guys are all great. I just like Marty better. Sooooo awesome!!

Bad analogy. A frame is not an integral part of the picture/painting, which doesn't even need a frame. Licks and solos may be appreciated on their own. Frames only barely and only as “sculptures”.
Who would have thought working from Dave Mustaine to Chester Thompson.
Nope, you got it backwards:) The closer the strings are the the pup, the bassier and muddier it sounds. If you want to clean up your sound, put more space between the strings and pups:)
Off topic - Hey Mr Beato... curious, what's your take on Greta Van Fleet? Personally, my attention struggles with these guys... maybe they'll age better?
Darn it, I thought it was going to be Marty Feldman. 🤭
もう日本人だね😊
I know Kung Fu now. I shall take the teacup to the top of the mountain.
I am throwing away my guitars. Perhaps I'll move to Tokyo
Step 1: be Marty Friedman
Weird Al is ripping on guitar!
Marty tríes to say that when you make solos do it diferent like no other be original
Perfect example of “the sound being in the hands” cliche. One of the most idiosyncratic and hard to duplicate players. He just hits the notes different and gives them so much character and feel. I think guys like Marty are part of why Kirk Hammett stopped working on his playing. Cause you just can’t compete with this nor do you want to be compared to it cause even during his “prime” he just wasn’t on this level. Marty’s playing has evolved over the years but it was never not unique. Chris buck is another gifted player who knows how to work a note like Marty and really make it sing
Marty reminds me of someone at a race track driving a front wheel drive hot hatchback, kicking the crap out of someone in a Porsche 911 GT3. He made that cheap little Vox practice amp sound awesome.
Mustaine effed up so bad
So many times.
Duh
Marty “who cares” Friedman
Short answer: you can't
Watched it twice. Still can't play like Marty Freidman.
*LIAR*
😁😁😁😁😁😁
Not impressed
subscribed! @rqorso
New album: Not from this planet. Musicians use their instruments. It's better that way.
